Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2013/2014 - JANUARY 30

Topic ID: 10451 | 63 Posts

Okay, check this out.  Like a few people have pointed out, state duals will give us a final indication of where guys are likely to end up for the post season.  Plus a few exciting matchups I'm sure.  This should get us through the end of the MS season and I will shoot for a full update heading into region and state.

Rankings Jan 30.pdf

Sinclair 10 , you wound me !!

Ryan Duvall the 220 from Apollo quit last year and hasn't wrestled a match since region 1 regionals last year!! Why is he on here?

Oldtimers disease .

Wow not many freshman at all .

Scott has 6 guys all ranked... May surprise some people at duels and be pretty dominate next year since all the guys will be seniors.

Plus they went right down to the wire with Ryle and Campbell County at the NKAC, and in fact led the entire tournament, only falling behind in the last handful of matches to finish 3rd easily.  I thought they'd be ranked a little higher as a team than 18th (they were 16th last ranking).  They have been battling injuries (they've had an 8th grader in the lineup most of the year), but look like they are healthier now and could make some noise this weekend.  This is the weekend they need to step up and prove themselves.

Ordinarily and before reading that post I would have complimented a team on improving and looking good and I have complimented Scott before and they did look good but that last post kind of annoys me ,seriously saying they led the whole tournament untill down to the last handful of matches , not hardly , I was there I think they led early before half of CC guys ever set foot on the mat due to Byes ?

And it carried over a round or so Not sure how close it was perhaps the actual

Scores might tell the tale a bit better .

Either way they did look good and congrats to them , I wouldnt crown them kings of reg 6 just yet , Ryle looks to be on the rise again as well with Meiman the Erdmans ,Belk ,and the rest , maybe it will get interesting next yr and I agree 18 seems low for them .

Trey Norton is at 152. He only has 3 losses. One to Agnew 8-6 in which he controlled the match, Ian kahl 13-10 and Justin Lampe in a tech fall. He should definitely be higher then what he is

This may be a post I regret but to me these rankings were just something to put out just to satisfy people to get them off your back. I do not feel that there was a lot of effort that were put into these as various wrestlers that are ranked are out for the season or not wrestling at all and other wrestlers that are ranked that quite frankly shouldn't Be. There are also some wrestlers that should be ranked a few very high that aren't Ranked at all. I promise that I have a great deal of respect for all that you do for this sport and I know that when you put your report out for the regions and the state tournament the results of these rankings will be quite different. I don't know I guess my question to you would be why put these out at all if you know in your heart you didn't give your best effort? I still thank you for all you do for this great sport ! Sorry my grammar is so bad on this post as I'm posting from my phone. I know when the Ranger report comes it will be top notch and no one can do it like you can. Respectfully submitted.

I concur with fanofwrestling6.  You have guys ranked for my team who have not stepped on the mat this year.  You also apparently have not looked at results as several of our wrestlers who have multiple wins over guys ranked in the top 10 are not in the rankings.  I understand if you don't have the time to do this anymore, but to put out rankings which are recognized as the official state rankings that are so far off does not help.  The KWCA needs to appoint a committee who share the responsibility to publish rankings with a little validity.

Ranger just a question if Blake Gamble from jc 138 is in 9 gr what is he doing in middle school st?

Couldn't agree more. He wanted people off his back. Took not much time to look into any results. Barton should be way higher. 113 looks out of whack. Heidorf a little high. Moreman is at 113 and moved up a spot at 120. Erdman doesn't move up? Many weight classes are a little off

Sorry, didn't mean to imply they were kings of the region, that wasn't my intention, because they aren't.  Just saying they've improved, and I think they surprised a few people at the NKAC.  They were though, in the lead, for a good portion of the tourney.  I was following the score almost match by match on Trackwrestling, and they didn't lose the lead until about midway through the finals round.  So, maybe last handful of matches wasn't quite correct.  They aren't that strong in the heavier weights (aside from Miller), and missing a 220 most of the year hurts.  Even so,  they really needed to perform a lot better in the finals matches they got into in the lighter and middle weights.  And in order to rise higher, they will need to do better in both those areas next year.  Still, though, it's nice to see them back on the map in wrestling.

They looked very good I for one noticed they were very good long ago ,

Really. Really. As usual some of you like to mention the wins and ignore the bad losses for your kids. And has been mentioned numerous numerous times, if you don't like it they are rankings. Either do it yourself or ignore them. Or at least provide some constructive feedback prior to the day after. Thanks to the few (and I do mean few) coaches who provided constructive feedback through professional channels. I went right to my spreadsheet and made those updates. Those who want to come on here and whine insert your favorite jerk response here.

As far as weights looking a bit different than you would expect, I say look at all of a kids losses. Yes they may have some big wins, but beating a returning top placer in December then losing to someone off the grid doesn't put you on top of the list. I've always said this. I give more credit to the guys who have been there and done it before even if they take a couple losses.

Ranger thanks for the updates.   Some people can always find a reason to be negative.   If you want more accurate rankings send Ranger your updated info (wins loses weights etc.)  each week coaches.

And for you dads fishing for an ego boost send me a pm and $20 and for at least a week I will put your kid in the top 10. Or just do your own rankings so you can pump their confidence these last few weeks. Your call.

******RANKINGS UPDATE***********

Number 1 @ 285 is Zane Brown 8th grade from Shamrock. Kid is a bit undersized for this weight but is tough as nails. He is undefeated at this weight.

your gonna have to knock 20.00 off....he is only in 7th grade!!

Darn. Typo. $90. Wasn't a material error.

Ranger I am partial since I am the father of a wrestler but I do have a question. Brandon Leak started the season ranked 24th and since has beaten the 13th,15th,16th and 17th ranked guys and even wen a hard match with Caleb Austin and lost by 3. Yet he has now moved to 25th. Again not familiar with all the wrestlers and understand the enormous work you put into these rankings and appreciate it greatly. Thanks for any insight.

As a coach I never liked sending in result because I didn't want my kids ranked. When they asked why they were not ranked I would tell them. "Because your not good enough and nobody knows who you are". Then they had something to prove.

Have you provide this input prior Ranger's updates?  Which kids has won, lost or not wrestling?  If not, last I knew Ranger doesn't attend every event in the state and isn't a mind reader.... Provide feedback that will improve the system, not just complaining about which kid isn't ranked or to high or not high enough....

Has Been, you beat me to it.

On top of the rankings, Ranger has a family to take care, coaches and works a full-time job. How in the heck can anyone expect to know every little freaking detail about every freaking wrestler across the state?

If coaches and fans would reach out and get Ranger this information BEFORE he releases new rankings, this wouldn't be an issue. But for some reason, very few coaches respond to his inquiries -- which leads to what some folks view as skewed rankings

If you don't like the product that's out there, do something about it. Don't just complain behind an anonymous screen name.

Keep up the good work Ranger123.

Hey Ranger, I for one want to thank you for all the years, time, effort and energy you have put into ranking these wonderful kids.. I know it is not an easy task.. For all the critics out there ... do you own ranking that way you can rank your own Kids as high as you like..with that being said this is the last year I will see my son's name ranked and appreciate all the efforts involved..

Ranger just FYI Crockett Crosby from Anderson Co @ 285 and Cody Socco @ 109 from Boyle County are  not wrestling this year.  Keep up the awesome work you do..  it is much appreciated.

Zack sparks at 170 for north bullitt hasn't wrestled all year

Has Been... your name suits you well.  I'm not sure there's been bigger contributor than fanofwrestling to the 182's specifically.... and Ranger just blew that one all to hell. If he didn't blow the other weight classes, at LEAST he needs to turn over the 182's to someone else because that one is just a mess.

Region  what would you do different?    I have seen most of the top 7 this year it looks dead on to me.   If is so bad so us how it should be.

Well if one of your loved ones wrestled At a certain weight and you scoped and researched everyone at that weight --- you would probably have a better grasp on it than ranger as well , try it with every class ?? Then complain

Well said Tarzan.  I have been scoping 138 and other than Fausz it looks like any of the next 7 or 8 could get 2nd so you'll get no arguments from me.

Yes I have scoped the nation at 220 :) and as the season unfolds of course someone creeps up the rankings who should have started above where he is now but that's the nature of Rankings !

138 is really tough. I know one kid that has beaten a handful at the top ranked above him.....proving how deep it is. I'd divulge his name, but he likes it that way......motivation.

Chandler from male may finish higher then people think. Had Mueller beat today(up by one with 20-30 seconds left) but gave up a takedown with a second left. I got gotta give his credit. He could have stalled out and won it easy, but he kept pushing instead and gave up a takedown at last second. Great match.

Beeler is going to make a run for the 1 spot at 126 this year. He will not be competing in the 120 weight class. This just may be his year.

Anyone else concerned about the new way they are planning on wrestling for the 1st/2nd spots at State? They will no longer have a separate time for the Championship match. They will wrestle all 8 placers at the same time with 4 mats going simultaneously. If you are concerned, please express you constructive criticism to the KHSAA at 859-299-5472 or email Julian Tackett at [email protected] or Mike Barren at [email protected].

Done!

I hope everyone can send an email, letter, petition or call so we can keep this a True State Championship and not just another event that KHSAA has to put on. These wrestlers and coaches work far too hard not to be honored with a special event to crown their champions!!! Stay strong and let's work together to protect the greatest sport in history and our children's role in that history!

I agree

Now I know how great and skilled Boston is but even if nobody else thinks so I thinks he's gonna get a run for his money or beat. And if the torney sets up the way I hope they'll meet in the finals. Bobby p from Moore is a beast and he's gonna give nathen everything he wants and I think a little bit Moore.

Boston has already pinned Poynter twice this year. Once at raider rumble and then again and the mustang classic

It wasn't to my knowledge my bad

Oops

Oops

Yeah too many people think they know everything and like to type before they really have any clue. If you don't really know at least do a little work before you stick your foot in your mouth.

Awww c'mon now. Some people need to put their feets in dey mauff. It's the only way to keep them quiet.

The 195s from FRCO and danville both should be ranked next preseason danville a 95 has only lost 7 this year with 2 being from the 220 weight class and 1 out of state kid also of the remaining 4 losses were from fooks and bossert and if I'm not mistaken he was up of bossert till bossert got a reversal surprisingly just his first year haven't seen him lately wrestling because of a knee injury but for a first year he is going to do big things and for Perez has losses to miller from Scott and Macintosh which both top 5 if I'm not mistaken

And of perezs other 5 losses at least 3 were seniors he should be in top 4 or 5 juniors for next season and he also took first at the jaguar jungle classic and danville kid placed at 5 star not sure what position though

What Danville kid. I didn't know Danville had a 195.

Perez placed 2nd at wolverine losing to mdso Williams not jaguar jungle my fault but both doing very well and he only was able to wrestle 5 or 6 meets if I'm not mistaken I've seen him at others supporting his team on crutches but when he was able to wrestle he was probably wrestling top 3 on team behind only lannum at 132 and Phillips at 120 I didn't see him at all meets because I try move around to see all the talent mainly parrot and morrow when talking 195 but with danville happening to be at some of there meets he caught my eye

Perez is in the tournament. Didn't he make the finals at region? Sorry to hear about the Danville kid. I thought that it was just a hole they had.

Yes he did loosing to Macintosh pretty impressive beating the senior from grant who ended up taking third which he is a better than decent for a 195 and with all the seniors leaving next year I would put Perez at 8 and danville kid at 13 if they both decide to comeback I've watched the majority of the underclass men this year and probably 2 of the most overlooked of the upper weight classes

I looked around and I found out that 195 from danville last name is price and he's a sophomore this year

Woodfords 113 is Joey Roberts and he should be ranked he's pinned your number 4. Vega and 8. Smith and also has wins over your 9. Hanson, 10. Krebs, 13. Wise, and 16. Jacobs

Nothing like some self promoting.:ph34r:

This is Tim Roberts I have never been on this website and the person who put that comment in about Joey is a dear friend of ours and he cares about Joey a lot with that said we wish all the wrestlers good luck in the tournament this weekend. And my god keep them all save. Thank you
