Region 6 Predictions

Topic ID: 10532 | 104 Posts

Let's hear them. Top teams and wrestlers at each weight.

Hvy CC Sinclair / Dixie kid .

220 CC Myers /Mueller / Boone kid

195 CC Gratsovonovich:)/ Connor Thompson

182 CC Mathews / Boone Jones

170 CC Turner / Ryle Meiman / SK kid is legit

160 Sk kid if he's there

152 Ryle Belk

145 Ryle / Newport / Boone / Scott / kid

138 CC Fausz

132 CC Maggard

126 CC Sparh

120 CC Krebs / Ryle Erdman

113 CC Wells / Ryle Erdman

106 C. Wells

My mind blurs at the lighter weights .Boone has a couple lightweights that are of note and Ryle has a pack of kids in the middle weights that should challenge at every spot . Newport seems to be on the rise and Scott even more so , Connor took a hit losing a rough heavy last yr but seems to always have some studs and a state champ hopeful in T Thompson who will be challenged by Miller for sure at regionals and possibly state .

CC has a lot of lightweights with exceptional skills I just don't know where they will be at come state I am probably forgetting Walton Verona completely and they have Clay Brown between 145 and 152 i think and an eight grader that should be fun to watch at state in Mason Smith , :) Grant is out from last yr and I did not follow Sk as close other than Mueller and their 170 160 lber who impressed me greatly , nearly beating Meiman .

What a homer lol

Mason was on a completely different level than all the other kids in his weight class at Middle School State.  He won't win state, but he will be a factor.

Why yes but you didn't let me finish , I wouldn't claim to know anything more than I do those were just the weights I know from the wrestlers i aee honestly I could not call any below 170 and 138 and 120 where I think Erdman is on fire ,

I spend time with a few upper weights every day so I will say CC Sinclair , Myers , Grazziani , lol

Not dissing or short changing anyone Whalen and many more will challenge or win eagles pride simply state your own pics and maybe after everyone sees everyone else's people can make a list that will be more accurate and less Homer esqe lol , either way I hope all the best make it strong challenges from the other regions , like to see all of our wrestlers on the border of being #1 win , Thompson Turner or Miller for example .

Honestly only seeing the home team wrestle three or four times in NKY hard to actually pick everyone , big battle at hvy should be fun same at 195 except the only 195 battle I saw was lopsided in favor of TT , big battle at 170 . .

Guess the homer came out since Meiman is our region as well yes hope one of them win , Turners a sr last chance and all .

106 cc wells/Scott holub

113 Dixie skaggs/cc krebs

120 Ryle erdman/Scott Hensley

126 WV Roth/SK Owens

132 Ryle erdman/Scott Ashford

170 Ryle meiman/cc turner or sk hicks

182 cc Mathews/Newport Jones

195 Scott miller/Conner Thompson

220 cc Myers

285 cc Sinclair/Conner platt

This is how I see it playing out... Just my opinion

good picks by both you and Tarzan the only difference is I see are in the heavy I still see Johnson from Dixie winning it and Sinclair getting 2nd. 182 I see Matthews then braden Jones then I'll take gage Jones over Woolf in the consolation final

I see meiman_turner-hicks and hunter bailey in the 170s ..don't be surprised if schoerer..from Boone gets the 3 spot in the 160s ...vaske 113 and Shipman 195 from Boone have shots at the 4th spot for state and ahmad.hamadian should get the 3rd spot at 220 from boone.....look for Austin Jackson from Dixie and Bailey cooper to have a great match to see who gets to the finals against Brown In the 145s..I I hate typing on a phone lol I do see Trevor Thompson over miller In a good final in 195s

Yeah I forgot Roth I know there are two of them and I think one is jr high still . Totally forgot WV at first thinking they were gone with grant from our region , hear their middle school team is the shissle lol

Always posting ,and I like all the kids don't want anyone mad at me kids / parents or coaches I wish they all could win .

At 120 like to see Erdman in the finals I like Belk jones from Boone and many more lol I would hype them all like I do my own just like I would any X kid or union kid I was around , I even like some of those Woodford kids and my first introduction to Woodford was having one of the moms tell me to shut The he // up when she said ATM was stalling and I said Woodford was stalling lol , I like that kid too . It's all good .

Jackson moving to 152 made it interesting. He an Belk should have a great match...... The seeds played out like I thought no real surprises but looking forward to a great Friday and even greater Saturday.. Best of luck to all ! YAou're right Tarzan so many kids deserve the right to go to the horsepark.... regardless of the fiasco down there it's still the Kentucky state tourney something these kids have worked many for years for this opportunity. There are many very good wrestlers that won't even get a chance to go...

Yeah , glad its 32 intstead of 16 myself ,

And while I agree with everyone getting mad about the match and round setups , other things could be changed by the people schools and coaches themselves , in a sport where kida have to rough it it seems like parents and coaches could add the little extras they want the kids to have rather than hope those in charge give them what they deserve , wich will not happen , I argued that the horse park was a better idea than a little gym but at the expense of the wrestlers whimsy medals , no brackets rounds set up crappy the celebration and all I guess it's not worth it .

I was talking to a friend last night about matchups at region and he said Myers May have a good match in the finals. Is there any truth to this.

I'm agreeing with Oldhamwrestling2012.. And honestly Myers may get upset.

Agreed. I saw the middle state awards and copies of brackets to the champ... there ceromony ...... someone needs to send a video of that to the khsaa. They won't do anything though it's all about the dollars. Wrestling is the hardest sport to stand out . I'm glad there at least starting to get a little respect from around the nation in rankings and media attention and no one looks at Kentucky's wrestling as a joke anymore. We've come along way and it's owed to all those that love the sport.

I hope someone videos the match it may be the match of the year. I just hope it happens in the finals. (Can't open brackets for some reason)

Myers, may not even win it all this year!!!

Have this strange feeling oldham and navy are the same person, trying to ruffle some feathers.

This is high school sports... this is about all the kids.....this isn't vegas.... but if there was a betting board geeze i'd like to find oldhamwrestling and navywrestler to make umm side popcorn bets lol..... You guys must live in boxes... Austin Myers won't be touched and I'll be shocked literally shocked I repeat if anyone actually even scores on him.. and by scoring on him I mean a takedown, a reversal....not where he lets them up and gives them a point. Yes he's that good......I've seen most the 220's this year and unless someone flew in from Califiornia last night and somehow the khsaa said sure he can wrestle.. It's no disrespect to any of the kids out there.... ATM is just a wrecking machine.... My nephew is a strong kid I mean very strong.... He worked out with ATM and said he might as well been working out with an SUV that was stuck.. I'll be shocked if any kid even actually comes at Austin........It may look good on paper to you guys but once they clinch with him.. the only thing his opponents will do the rest of the match is take steps backwards and I don't blame them... and why don't you say his name about who your talking about ?

FANOFWRESTLING... That's illogical. Myers could get taken down, could get tossed... Just because those intense workouts doesn't mean he's the best of the best.. He's not the cream of the crop. Bub

lol navy ... I'm just a realist ...... Seriously I'll be shocked if anyone scores on him.... If you're talking about Mueller he's a super nice kid whose a great wrestler......but no he won't score on Myers .... They've wrestled twice at NKAC and yes he was pinned twice easily by Myers..... Mueller is good though and more importantly a great kid..... but Austin is nationally ranked probably should be nationally ranked #1...If you haven't seen him wrestle then maybe I understand. You have to see him or work out with him to understand what I'm talking about. The kid deadlifts 600 pounds and moves like a cheetah... He's that good.

Yes he's the cream of the crop..... and ice cream and yogurt on the side...

Looking at predictions of all regions it's usually very evident that Region 6 is the toughest. This year looking at region 4, I think it stands up if you look only at winners. 6 appears deeper, but the predicted winners in 4 would win the majority of weights vs 6. Close, but first time it's ever been close.

I will personally be shocked...if ATM wrestles an complete six minute match for the entire state tournament. He is not a national top ten rated kid for no reason. He is more likely a top 3 nationally. He will pin his way to a championship. In this tournament I believe there are some strong favorites - but four "locks". Boston, Ervin, Fausz and ATM. My opinion.

Wrestling dad- your "locks" are solid. And ATM as good as he is, Isn't superman he can be beat ...Just not by anyone in Kentucky.

I saw him get scored on (takedown) at hammer & anvil inv. in a 7-4 dec.win. so he is human (I Think). The problem most have in judgeing his

ability's is that you rarely see him long enough. So the common thing to think is "well that guy was not very good competition." But when the same

condition befalls one after another . then you have to assume that A: nobody is any good or B: He stands above and is exceptionally better that the

rest of the field.  either way. watch next week and judge for yourself.

I agree he might get beat but not by anyone flying in from California , and that includes Stanford and Cal Poly ,he could get thrown although no one has thrown him since well no one has ever thrown him , and I doubt anyone scores on him unless he trips :)

No feathers are ruffled a couple weeks ago someone might have beaten him and he might have been able to be beaten the first few weeks of the yr he had injuries at those times , pretty healthy now though , more focused on nationals I would think so maybe someone could catch him .

Mueller could have possibly beaten ATM a few weeks back at the Hammer but Sk had to leave. Before finals and he forfeited to a W

It would have made more sense to push buttons on the state thread where someone hadn't already pinned everyone in his bracket in under 30 seconds it's really not even funny or annoying .

Just flattering to ATM . And those who push and train him . Perhaps you could recruit some

College kids to wrestle him at the.bluegrass games he won the university div a couple yrs back bring those California kids :) Ohio ones , Pa ones NJ ones , but you don't have to ATM will see them shortly in Virginai beach can you say 3 x AA or dare to to dream of a 3 x nat champ :)

Lol you saw a very seriously Injured ATM refuse to take even a seconds worth of time out time put state ranked Ohio kid on his back for what most would consider a pin when any other kid in Ohio or ky would have gotten beaten or inj defaulted out , if you were there you saw it as everyone else did a kid who could not shoot or even bend over refuse to take inj time even at the behest of his coaches friends and family , and he won 7-3 not four :) and would have and has pinned that opponent in the first had he not been hurt ,

Mueller made the finals beating Alonzo jewel who lost to Crocket by one , Crocket losing toAustin 7-3 when he was hurt ,

In other words on a normal day they would have all been pinned in under a minute . A couple weeks earlier Austin majors a truly tough opponent in Devin Nye 12 to something not giving up a takedown or reversal to a a future kent state hvy weight ,

Now you rub me the wrong way your either a CC or Sk person ,or from Ohio as those were the only teams there . or maybe not since you do not recall the correct score !!

Everyone at regionals will get pinned everyone at state will get pinned . ATM will be the first wrestler in the history of the state to never know defeat in the regular season from day 1 till he wins his fourth little trinket at state , be sure to hand out Shades to everyone wrestling 220 at AllTech , dont want ATM to get sued for damaging his opponents eyes , :)

Your right he's not superman

Superman doesn't always win .

Tarzan, I meant everything I said as a complement to ATM. re-read the post, take it with a drop of humor

as I ment for it to be amusing. Injuries aside, he won the tourny. but if he were superman he couldn't get injured.HAHA

OK I'm I'm not up on my superhero records but didn't Superman only lose 1 fight and even that one he still destroyed doomsday lol

Nah your not funny at all a kid has a possible serious injury and gives up a rare takedown because of it and you use it to knock him for giving up a takedown from a body lock . Superman gets bloodied even put on his Back , Austin does not ,and will not . As for locks and winning state him

Being the only undefeated ranked wrestler in the state , I would say hes pretty secure , again no one has even seen him come close to losing no one has reversed him or even gotten a legit takedown on him in the state ever . He has never missed for injury or sickness and has given people opportunities - none have come close - if I'm not mistaken even Brock got reversed at duals and Boston was home sick , so few are as untouchable as ATM .

I mean seriously ATM .

Austin is Doomsday for everyone at regionals and state .

That wasn't my post .....about anyone while injured.... I was only thinking about superman and his losses. I'm one of atms.. biggest fans you know that.

Lol I know it's all silly anyway , Good luck to all the srs hope they make the trip and the podium if they never have .

170 looks good

Ok , let's talk about some jr high kids with some potential to make the podium - like the Monster - Mason Smith

From reg six , intermat nationally ranked ATM at 6 , NAIA intermat nationally ranked SAM 16 ,

Life is good and so is wrestling from reg 6.

I haven't seen much HS wrestling this year but I don't see ATM losing to anyone in this region, state, tri-state, or this side of the Mississippi. The kid is as talented as they come and pound for pound one of the best wrestlers the state has seen. I could see him wrestling tough matches on a national stage but not in this state or area. I know people are setting back waiting to see him fail but he is a 17 year old kid. Set back and enjoy the show.

I am really interested in seeing the Thompson/Mueller match in the finals should be a real battle. I just see Thompson being to driven to lose over the next 2 weeks. On a personal level I know he has invested a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for the next 10 days. I am not taking away or disregarding any kids efforts. They have all busted their tails to get here. I'm excited to see the tournament this weekend and best of luck to all of the wrestlers.

Thompson wrestles 195 Mueller 220 sorry that one won't happen at regionals.

All the pressure is on Thompson... Not Miller the kid is a junior still has another year.. This is thompsons last shot

Thompson wrestles 195 Mueller 220 sorry that one won't happen at regionals.

Touche :)

EaglesPride1 I agree with you a 100%. I think it will be a tough match.

In a way yes but nit really the pressure is always there and you never know what next yr holds kids improve and move around , there's a lot if tough 182s who may come up and a pair of 220s at least who could drop and do very well . The time is now

That one did happen last week with easy win for mueller by pin

Thompson did not wrestle miller for some reason

Oh no doubt time is now!!! You may see a bigger stronger Miller next year at 182 ;)

Ok so did Thompson wrestle Mueller , a match I was wondering about , I know mueller is bigger at this time , and I know sometimes people like to stay away from comp before big matchups by comp I mean their main comp for a regional or state until then ,

Yeah Thompson wasn't really a match for Mueller... Lost by pin in first I think... Miller even bumped up to 220 to get to Thompson and he sat out duel all together

It says they did wrestle and Mueller got the pin.

Ok so did Thompson wrestle Mueller , a match I was wondering about , I know mueller is bigger at this time , and I know sometimes people like to stay away from comp before big matchups by comp I mean their main comp for a regional or state until then ,

Why would miller go to 182 next year? Just curious really . He'd be easily the number 1 guy at 195 next year.

Might be a lot of reasons to go 182 next yr maybe one real big nasty mean one . Ask Kyle Dake he likes to move around a lot !

I wouldn't put much into Mueller hammering dominating humiliating totally destroying Trevor hahaha jk I like them both Mueller is a 220 lber and being a smart wrestler I'm sure he's as close to 222 as he can be , Thompson a 195 lber that cannot break weight one of the bigger weight jumps between classes only one from 220 to Hvy being more of course Mueller would have an advantage I would take him in a match against Miller as well Mueller is legit proved it at GMVA and everywhere else this yr . I like Miller as well and with TT having being 2-0 I'm sure he figures he will go in with that edge to reg and hopes to only have one more match with Miller ,

On a side note Trevor has worked his butt off from what I can see this yr . I think he will have a great run and could actually lose reg and still win state without much surprise to most people .

Will they let the 220 champ wrestle the Hvy champ after state finals. It would be fun to watch right before the 132 vs 138 match !!! Lets do it

Miller is a small 195 that's why.. A natural 182

He actually looked as if he could drop aome to me Y didn't he this yr

At the end of the day Trevor will be region 6 champion and will be Conner's first state champion in a long time. I commend Trevor for bumping up and wrestling Mueller, Tarzan is right when your wrestling a very good wrestler, like Mueller, and your giving up 30 pounds because Trevor weighed in at 189 its tough to win no matter who you are. That would be like Sean Fausz bumping up to 170 and wrestling the second ranked kid in the state, its a completely different world. Good luck to all wrestlers this weekend, I cant wait to be there Saturday morning and watch all the matches.

Me to it will be fun , percentages say it would be like Fausz bumping to about 158. 423 but what the heck , the point is you can't knock Trevor for losing to a kid in the next weight class up who is totally legit , and obviously his plan to nit wrestle miller a third time before regionals has had an effect. Wich leads me to believe he did the right thing .

Well he started this year at 210 and decided to stay at 195... But he is about 184 now... Hard time keeping it on with all his workouts... Didn't want to diet... Have a feeling he will stay around this weight this offseason

Miller will be ready and works just as hard as anybody or kid I know including Trevor.

Nothing like a good rivalry ! Good luck to both . Trevor I'm sure will come out blazing as I have said anyone not strong if heart will get swept away quickly .

Austin 2:22

CC taking 11 to state :) one more than I predicted . :)

Some upsets and close matches no one expected , a jr high state champ loses to a a jr high kid who never made it but wrestled HS all year , Mason smith with a big pin after leading against a high state placer last yr " I called that one :) "but its no surprise really he's diesel ,the Camels take all their big boys ATM has a ten sec pin in finals that he says was about a six but whatever .Erdman loses to a Scott kid but Scott when last I heard was not in the top five although it may have changed they were behind CC Sk , Ryle , and I think Connor and someone else at one point .

Okay Smith is legit and is now has a pretty good shot at placing.  Pinandwin called it!

Scott is in 4th with 4 guys in finals and will take 6 to state.. Only 4 points off Ryle and 12 off SK.. A lot better than u let on

Meiman looked better to me physically looked as if he filled out Jones from Boone is diesel , TT had a close match should be good tomorrow between him and Miller . Hvys final should be good as well Boones 220 did decent against the machine that is Mueller , Newport looked pretty darn legit to Me hats of to those boys Connor looked impressive as well a fun time .

Is region 6 the only region that didnt finish today?

Definitely think Region six has the best talent in the state... Looking at the other regions after the one or two guys there is a big drop in talent.. Region 6 is a grind in almost every weight class

Okay Smith is legit and is now has a pretty good shot at placing.  Pinandwin called it!

Mason placing is not a surprise to anyone who has seen him wrestle this year.:)

I'm a mom.. CAN'T HELP IT... BRADEN JONES will wrestle Eli Matthews from Campbell for the Region 6 championship tomorrow.  Ranger, STUFF THAT IN YOUR SHORTS AND SMOKE IT!!! Dropping him to #12 in the State was just... stupid.    Braden beat Gage Jones 16-2 last week and had little trouble with Ryle's Wolfe tonight.  Braden controlled the match the whole time and pinned him in the second period.  Looking forward to Braden taking on Eli tomorrow.  Braden feels confident but respectful of Eli's talent.

Congrats to all the Region 6 kids for working so hard!!  So many of them are near and dear to my heart.  I've enjoyed every minute.

Special congrats to Dru Shorer (150), Ahmad Hamedian (220) and especially, Chris Vaskey (113) for making it to State.  Boone has always struggled, so to get four kids on the road to State is GREAT!!  Vaskey was seeded #12 of 12, I believe... and pulled through to wrestle for 3rd or 4th tomorrow.  SO PROUD OF THESE KIDS!

Be proud mom, Braden is a great kid. He wrestled his tail off today. He is admired by many youth kids as a prostive role model. I only met him this year, but he is a total class act.

BadMad, thank you so much for the compliment. Braden LOVES working with the kids and plans on spending a lot of time with them in the future.  Thank you for commenting.  I'm really proud of him!!

wow lady. Braden deserves everything he has worked for but he does not need a idiot like you to show off her behind and look like a fool. Braden is a beast but you sound like a fool.

Swell..... a fat joke.  You're a class act, JCB.  Embrace your ignorance.. it seems to work for you!

Incidentally, JCB... which part of my post did you NOT agree with?  Or, did you just really feel the need to get the fat ass comment in?

Where should we start jcb? How about little things called losses. Like multiple losses to Dodd or multiple losses to Gage Jones. Didn't have any catchy shorts comments after those did you.

Oh hi, Ranger!  Hi Belks!!  The LAST thing I want is for my input to have any impact on my son... k?  Let his accomplishments stand on his own.  I'll own my fat ass all by myself.

Ranger, so you and Belks are BFF's.  I don't mind telling you that your ranking of Braden sucked.  He beat Dodd the first go-around.  It was an easy win.  He lost two other times, once because he was sicker than a dog.  The other loss was legit... lets face it, any wrestler can beat any wrestler on any given day.  Its half luck.  Braden lost to Gage Jones twice, but he also beat Gage the first time and the last time he beat him was an absolute slaughter, 16-2.

I rarely see you chiming in on random posts, Ranger.  I completely respect and appreciate what you have done for the sport.  I was just dismayed to see Braden at #12 and I expressed my opinion to you on the most recent rankings.  I thought it was a slop job.  It seemed completely out of character for you. I was miffed!!!

Belks, you're just an asshole.  There was absolutely no need to address my weight.  I know you, I know your kid... wow... you lack all over the place.  I'll be sure to spread the word.

Braden is a great kid.  He works HARD for the youth wrestlers.  He's no slouch on the mat either.  Don't take your frustration out on him.  I'm happy to take all the shit you want to give out.  Can we agree on that?

I think I'm done here!!  I've said all I need to.  Please don't let my rant and opinions reflect on Braden.  He IS a great kid and he deserves all the credit in the world.  I won't be checking back.  I have plenty of internet fodder to make fun of my weight without your help.  My kid will do his thing.  I'm sure of that.

idc about anyones fat asses!! Why isnt there a list of regional finalists!

because there would be to many CC names on the list! and it seems everyone in region six hates Campbell County.  I will say this I saw two Hwt in beast mode...Platt from conner absolutely fived and touch fall the Dixie guy.  Might have been the best throw I have ever seen (from a heavy weight).  If someone has that on video please post, the whole earth shook!!! I will give the Dixie guy credit he came back and pinned platt (who I think got injured).

Well, with all of the politeness being tossed around on here, it ought to make for an interesting day. BTW, making fun of a lady's weight is a pretty crappy thing to do. I thought Mr Belk had a little class to him, guess I was wrong.

No, IWin, I shouldn't have come on here shouting at Ranger.  I was caught up in celebrating Braden's win and got carried away.  I want to apologize to Ranger because I do understand that ranking hundreds of kids must be an impossible task.  As for Mr, Belk, he's not a blip on my radar screen.

Yeah Thompson wasn't really a match for Mueller... Lost by pin in first I think... Miller even bumped up to 220 to get to Thompson and he sat out duel all together

Thompson was beating Mueller 7-6 with about 50 secs left in the match before getting tossed and pinned. Not sure what match you were watching.

Mason is the real deal and looked very good yesterday. There were some good kids from Region 6 who will not be making it to state. It's a damn shame but that is the way wrestling goes. Good luck to all competitors today. Stay classy Region 6.

First congrats to Dixie for bringing 6 State Qualifiers. The Dixie kid that was thrown is Branden Johnson. Quick recovery was key after that throw. Glad to see Platt able to wrestle afterwards. Congrats CCH for a state qualifier as well

I was looking through the results and I agree with whoever said Region 6 is the toughest region.  Looks like Union qualified 14 and so did St. X, but both come from very weak regions.  I did notice raynel brown is coming out of his region as a 4 seed.  lso noticed that Dezember lost in finals.  Frankrone beat smith 7-4 or 7-3 which is the first time this year.  State looks like it ix going to be fun.  At this point without seeing the random draw looks like union county is still the favorite.

So when is region 6 going to finish their matches

So when is region 6 going to finish their matches

Wrestling starts today at 2pm.

Who cares where you are ranked by ranger.. People ask him to make rankings and he does it for free and does a darn good job if it . If you don't like where you are ranked use that to motivate yourself. I appreciate everything ranger does for this sport. Rankings don't mean anything as long is you bring it every time you step on the mat. Matter if fact it's kind of nice to be ranked low then you can surprise some people. So Ranger I'd just like to say thank you for all the time that you put in for this sport

I agree when your kid looks at the ranking they either get motivated or they let a kid who is ranked higher get in their head even though they have all the abilities to beat the kid ranked higher... It's a double edge sword for most...

The funnest thing in wrestling is watching your kids the next is watching them outdo their ranking lol it's all good. 14 kids in a region dominated by one team is no surprise . Frankrone seems to be peaking at the right time and living up to some peoples expectations , he seems to have great potential , smith has battled all yr sure he is still the favorite -

No need for parents of kids who will never wrestle to argue all seems pointless , I wouldn't have jones ranked that low but I don't know all the kids soooo anyway he's going to state as a I or 2 seed so congrats to him a great kid

Not sure everyone hates CC didn't see it really ,

And I am very mad I missed my boys semis match yesterday this is getting irritating :)

Seems even some of the studs on unions team have fallen and in their own region - it happens .

And Otto I read Bucksmans loooong excuse for his nationally ranked 220 from moe losing what he basically explained as a fluke .

Guess he got fluked twice this month pinned twice in about as many weeks , like I said they don't want any , and the kid who stuck him this week was supposed to be at Fairfield but hit the flu !!!!!!

I grew up in northeast Ohio (Claymont Hs in Uhrichsville), but sufficiently south of Cleveland to not be considered part of wrestling royalty. You see, northeast Ohio is the epicenter of wrestling--just ask anyone from there!

Anyway, we (Claymont) were tough as nails but NE Ohio looked down on us. We were weak, while the Mentor district was a "Meatgrinder." We all looked down on central Ohio as being less competition too. Meanwhile all of Ohio laughed at the Cincy area and the southwest schools. Cincy schools all thought they were better than NKy.

And now it seems that NKy/Region 6 think they are the cream of the crop. But in the last 10 years haven't St X, Trinity, and Union all won state? Aren't the defending champs from outside region 6? This is almost as annoying as the SEC claim to supremacy.

I'm not saying anything is true or false. I'm just saying I love wrestling and some kid from Podunk is going to strap on a headgear and wrestle to win whether his opponent is from region 6 or not.

Congrats to all the region winners and qualifiers. We will be represented well at the horsepark !

Kudos to all the qualifiers! Some thoughts...

Campbell County is clearly a cut above the rest. This comes as a huge shock because of how good the Gray Middle school team was just four years ago. In my honest opinion that was the best middle school team outside of the 06' Fern Creek. They have under-performed big time in my opinion.  Bankamper has done an excellent job with this team and they should do very well down at state.

Next year maybe a the year SK, Ryle and CC lose their strangle hold on all of the other schools. Scott and Coach Graven have done an amazing job rebuilding their program. I'm a big fan of Coach Graven as a person and competed against him while I was in school, he has a great crew over there who will make noise this year then some major headway next season!

SK is young but they're gonna be very competitive as long as Kaiser is there. He is a phenomenal coach!

Congrats to Cov Cath on their first state qualifier in school history. I'm a big fan of Joe Hunt and Dave Johnson. They have a long road ahead of them but the future is bright for the program.

Since I'm from Conner I was super proud of Clayton Boyd. He wrestled his tail off losing to Roth by two points! This is "win" for him. Blake crushed him twice during the season and to put himself in position to win was very cool to see. Conner will be awfully young next year once Trevor graduates. I think they only have one junior, Jacob Warwick, so I think there about two years removed from being really competitive again.

Holmes always has great athletes and they have a good group of coaches its just gotta be frustrating how much great talent they lose year end and year out.

I was a little disappointed in Dixie. Thought they would be a lot better than they were. I think open enrollment in that district has killed them losing Cornett, Holub, and I'm sure several others. I think very highly of coach Simmons and I hate seeing him go out like he is.

Overall, CC will carry the district over the next couple of years. However its going to take a while for them to put themselves in a position to win state once this crew is gone. Outside of Wells, I don't see any freshman or 8th grader making any sort of impact next year. They have some good sophomores but none are "state placing" material this year.

Oh and I want whatever weight lifting program Meyers is on! Austin looked incredible, he is the best kid in the Region and I think he is the best kid in the state. Sorry Brock and Boston, put pound for pound Austin is the best our state has to offer.

Great tourney!! Very impressed with my eagles.. Proud of my boy Elijah obviously... Been calling it for a while with nobody except his coach and fans giving him a shot. Want to give a shout out to TT great kid and class act.

Got give it to Tony Ashford the kid is just straight up good... Very impressive for a kid who didn't start wrestling until his freshman year... Schwachter hung on even with his back issues, great job toughing it out! He has been dealing with it for a while. I know Cornett was upset. But hey if he wasn't behind to begin with he would have won.

Frank and holub looked good and Sowder is no slouch and always brings it.. With the younger Holub coming next year along with several other very good wrestlers, the Scott programs future is looking very bright!

Congrats to all the young men, Very impressed! Looking forward to the state championships and watching all the region six boys bring home some medals!

I see what you're getting at here and know that this comment was made because of one of my previous posts.  I want to clarify something for you, No one ever said that one single team from Region 6 was the best, what was said, as a whole Region 6 is the toughest in the state.  If you do a little research before posting you would know that by and large the most placers/champs in the state tournament come from region 6 every year since I have been involved in KY wrestling.  As a region we score more points than any other region.  I think the next closest to ours was some 80 points behind last year.  Take it for what it is Region 1 had all eight man brackets (some with byes) in that region you can win one match and qualify for state.  In Region 4 it is the same way, even with the redistricting of regions this past year, no other region is as tough as REGION 6.  When you can show me and everyone else some hard evidence other than the "oh the state champs were from elsewhere" then don't make uneducated comments.

I do agree with one statement you made...If you don't come to wrestle next week you might get beat by that kid from boofoo, because he wants "it" just as bad as anyone!

Ashford had a great tournament! Talked with Wiley and he told me that kids is freakishly strong!

Big props to Miller. I'm man enough to say I got it wrong. Hope nothing but the best for Miller, and by best I mean second place at state :)

Scott did look good this weekend Holub next year wont be a factor for Scott. He is too little and will get manhandled by high schoolers. It will be a couple years before he has any sort of impact for Scott.

Not all the brackets in region one were 8 man, 5 were. Region 6 had 4. Region 6 averaged only 1 more wrestler per bracket.

KY you are right, there the numbers on participants seem to be about even.

can you do math 3 matches in 2 min and 10 or so sec -or 4 in 530 something ,

Did I miss something? Was an award given to the wrong wrestler?

If so I hope it is resolved quickly and the correct wrestler gets the correct award.

Most pins comes first, so the small 8 man brackets hurt people chasing awards. Fausz had no byes in a 16 man bracket, and Myers had a full eight man bracket.  If the first part "MOST" pins outweighs the second least amount of time.  Then the award went to the right person.  Either way Austin with 3 pins is impressive,  Fausz with 4 pins is also impressive.

Well the award is meaningless then considering 40 percent of the kids in the tournament could have pinned through and not had a shot if winning .

I went to the head table and asked to see the 220 bracket , the director looked at me and said Fausz had more matches , as I said all I asked was to see the bracket so I said good for him may I see the bracket he said he did not have them and could I do math l o l I came back later asked for the bracket he said he did not have them and said four matches to three - seemed he already had a defense made up before I even asked a ? Then insulted me by asking if I could do math when I had been nothing but cordial, i I replied yes i can you do math , when I should have said yes I can do math I'm five 11 250 your 5 nothing 47 lbs wet and I may be crippled but have taught "math Lessons to bigger smart :)/)/es" Lol good ole boys wrestling clique whatever my son would not care and would be happy for a teammate or team as am i but fair is fair

Almost half the kids in the tournament could not win that award because it has no criteria 40 percent of the wrestlers could have pinned through and not won. .

3 pins in 150 sec = 50 sec a match

4 pins in 344 sec = 1:26 sec a match

Yeah m:;: :/) I can do math I can do wrestling and I can deal with good ole boys cliquey wrestling wannabees to .

Hope ATM doesn't lose a match wouldn't want to give CC someone to point a finger at this yr for losing a state title if they do . I can read the press and newspapers as well as do math .

I read Camel pride as well .

That leads to my next question? Were brackets available to the public? I know last year they were not available to the public at the state tourney. I must have heard 100 times go to Trackwrestling.com and get to see your wrestlers brackets.

What good does that do me while I am at the tourney? I want to see the bracket now not after its over. We just want to see what the match ups are going to be so we can be ready to see the matches we want to see.

I also understand why a fan would not have access to the brackets at the head scorers table. You can't have every Tom,Dick, and Harry going to the head scorers table asking to see a bracket. However brackets need to be redily abailable to the public.

I also would like to add, even if you tried to see the brackets on line there was no wi-fi available to see it. I'm to dumb to have a smart phone so us poor saps who are dumb or poor (which I fit into both catagories) and don't have access to the internet while walking around don't have access to the brackets any way shape or form. I have an i-pod in which I tried to see the brackets from. Even if I could have gotten them on the i-pod I probably would not have been able to see them with these old eyes.

Tournament was over when I asked to see brackets and updated brackets were posted in the hall entering the tourney before finals but were down before the tourny was over , wasn't really the point of the post , simply do not need rude people on the mic or in charge of things and there should

Be even criteria for winning an award I guess if a kid had lost and pinned six kids in two days he would have won , doesn't take a genius or mathematician to figure out a formula for a true winner and use it as other states and tournys do and I'm sure those in charge were aware of how to do it , but chose not too.

At state there will

Be five matches for everyone - unless someone forfeits lol and if a ref can call a pin in proper form and time wich I have seen not happen there everyone should have an equal shot at whatever awards there are

I'm the first to give props to great kids no exception but at the same time lets be fair to everyone not just those in bigger brackets or in some cases those who have been around longer

Eh camel pride !!

And If your team gets beat don't dare point a finger at someone who has gotten you there to begin with or let anyone else do it and sign your name to it .

You either have not been involved in Kentucky wrestling very long or, may want to take your own advice and do the research. If you want to use recent history, you only have to go back a few weeks to see where the toughest teams are. Arhens Trade School has more state championships than Ryle.

Tilt. I'm not sure what Arhens Trade has to do with anything. They won the first two state championships in 64 and 65 While St. Joseph was second. Heck even Kentucky School for the Blind won a state title in 67 and were runner up in another year

I believe what most are talking about are in the last 20-30 years region 6 has either been the toughest or 2nd toughest region in the state.

In the 80's Western Ky (Region 1 now) was the toughest with Hoptown, Christian, Union, and Caldwell, with Nky (region 6 now) a close second, with Conner, Campbell, Simon, and Scott. Through the 90's it was region 6 with region 7 a close 2nd. Through the 2000's region 6 has still been on top. The team state champion is NOT what is being discussed. Its the individual wrestlers in each region. And region 6 has almost always had either the most or a close 2nd in most state placers, finalist, and champs.

I would give you more history on KY wrestling but my computer is on the fritz and my files are not optainable right now. I'm going on memmory at this point.

It seems like it would

Go around once and a while. Not sure what people think , if you don't win state team title then that reg is not the toughest or if you do nit have the most placers any particular yr then your not considered the top reg ?? Either way , I would say take the top three at each weight in each reg and six would probably still be tougher than any other region , certainly tougher than 1 .

Tarzan I agree the guy running the regional tourney seemed a bit power hungry.  and I am in agreement with you on the fact that almost half the kids had no no chance of getting the award even if they pinned out.  MAybe more because of the byes in the 16 man bracket.  Just the way it goes, Fausz could have drawn a bye then Austin would have clearly received the award.  Two phenomenal talents and both are deserving of recognition.  Austin will probably get it at the BIG one this weekend.  Maybe they could challenge each other, b/c we all know CC will need the bonus if they are going to pull off the title run.

taking the top 3 finishers in each weight class for 2012 by region is as follows. 1=8,2=5,3=1,4=6,5=2,6=13

7=4 and 8=3 for the year 2013 1=6,2=5,3=4,4=8,5=5,6=9,7=4 and8=1

so for years 2012 and 2013 region 6 placed more wrestlers in top 3

I have been around KY wrestling since I was about five.  Started really following when competing at the High School level.  So, no not as long as some, but in the last 25 years, no other region has been as tough as region six.  Which until the early 2000's was combined with the oldhams and eastern jefferson county.  I did take my advice and have done the research, if you put your glasses on and read my post I clearly said, one team does not make a region tough.  So thanks for proving nothing!  All the info you need is in Rangers post state report, when you find something to prove me wrong, feel free to present your findings.

Navywrestler... you're out of your mind. It's obvious you're just trolling. First, who's this 220 you pretend has a chance against Myers? What's his name? Team? Second, Myers is crazy strong. Stronger than most men that are walking around THINKING they're strong. Third, Myers isn't ranked in the top 10 in the Nation for nothing. The kid can wrestle. Myers will walk through State this year, and I would hope Bandkamper has the nut to sign him up for Ironman. You don't have to take the entire team, most of them would get handled anyway, and Myers would be welcomed there. Myers beat the number two from Ohio easily, the number one from Indiana... unless you plan on assembling a wrestler out of hydraulic parts and magic dust... no 220 in Kentucky will handle him.

Cool , I was just guessing :)

I'm sure they will both try to pin through and help the team with x an union getting 14 in those weaker reg :) it makes it hard for a team like cc to have equal footing at state but it's all good .

I notice kids back peddling automatically when wrestling Austin and refs seem to be slow or simply do not want to call stalling right away it seems it's expected , I'm

Not sure they are reffing his matches as they should getting into the spectacle of it rather than saying okay this is a normal

Match time to go to work either way I do not think he will

Be distracted this yr as he was last and I do not think anyone makes it through the third period maybe not the first . He knows the riddle of steel I taught it to him early :)

My guess is region 6 wins the top 3 count 80% of the time going back to early 90s

4 regions for much of the 90's.  Region 4 with Woodford and Sheldon Clark were pretty darn good then.
