I just saw that the coaches association preseason rankings are out. They are basically the state tournament results without the seniors. Anyone want to bet which set of preseason rankings are closer?

I'm going by your ranking Ranger. They are way more accurate. Coomes is too busy with administration and coaching to keep the rankings accurate. I think most will look at yours.
Just a friendly jab at Coach Coomes. I have to do that given that he blew me off when I approached him about coordinating our efforts.
i just went to kentuckywrestling.org and i couldnt find them on there they wre from last year.

They are always sent to the coaches to view first.

I've heard people talk about "The Rankings" referring to the KentuckyWrestling.com rankings. I think this will most likely become the trend.
ya Ranger i love you man thanks for taking the time to do them right....you gave me more motivation to work hard than those others they arent good at all....good job
Thanks to everyone for the compliments and the "constructive" criticism. I know they aren't perfect, but I do put a good deal of effort into it and appreciate your appreciation.
Ranger 123....my coach didnt get the email about the REAL rankings...how can we see them..
Good lord. The pre-season rankings are nice, but seriously not many of the coachs care, not even about the 'official' rankings. When they are brought up in seeding meeting's it's the rookie coaches. The older more experienced coaches don't care about either of them, especially about those on some internet forum.

That's not the point. This isn't college football. Do they use the rankings for anything in high school football or basketball? No. The point is to generate interest and discussion. And they can also be helpful in strategy as far as a kid deciding what weight to wrestle or a coach deciding how to "shuffle" the lineup in a dual.
I will also disagree on your point that the older, more experienced coaches don't care about the rankings. I have proof that they do care. I get lots of feedback from coaches all across the state with many, many years of experience (and not just in KY) and they do care. In fact, I think they have to care because the kids care. And if the kids are distracted or concerned about them then the coaches need to know what it is all about.
Well put Ranger!
I would say that there are alot of wrestlers, parents, fans and even a few coaches who care about these rankings. I would even say there are a few people from outside the state looking for some insight about KY wrestling from time to time that have no other resource than rankings of some type and besides it's a lot of fun!
As one of those old coaches I'll give you my 2 cents. Because that is about all its worth.
The point is to generate interest and discussion.
This is the biggest plus for the ranking.
And they can also be helpful in strategy as far as a kid deciding what weight to wrestle or a coach deciding how to "shuffle" the lineup in a dual.
I think you are correct in this use. However I'm from the old school where you don't care where someone else is wrestling and you keep your line up the same no matter who you wrestle. Winning a dual match is not important, the goal of duals are to get your wrestlers experience during the season for the only tourneys that count. Region and State.

I like other coaches send the information out because it is our duty to do so. As for caring about the ranking I personally hope my wrestlers do not look at them. When they spend their energy worrying about the rankings they loose focus.
Olympic is correct about the seeding meetings however. It's either the rookie coaches or a last ditch effort to get a higher seed.
It's a fine line to walk. Keeping the fans happy and keeping your wrestlers focused.
I do appreciate the huge effort that you put into this, and I personally enjoy talking about them.
bulldog - good comments. The only thing I would add is that the state duals is becoming a much bigger deal than in the past and people are more concerned about winning duals and qualifying for that event.
i like your rankings alot more because matt ballinger is ranked and i beat him last year
Ranger - we really appreciate all the time and effort you put into the rankings. You obviously love the sport. Your knowledge of the wrestlers and all the teams is amazing. Too bad the KWCA didn't take you up on your offer to combine efforts. You would have been a real asset. Keep up the good work! :-D
Rebelyell has my exact same endorsement
rankings mean nothing it how hard you can work for that three days at state, thats what shows your plaing in the state

None of us is saying that the rankings mean more than words on a piece of paper or a discussion forum. It absolutlely comes down to what happens on the mat. The point is to take our sport to a new level in Kentucky. We have to generate more interest in kids, parents, teachers, everyone. And rankings give us all something to talk about and a measuring stick for where everyone stands.
yes i do realize that and i agree fully with generating wrestling to a bigger population. I was just stating my small opinon for those who lookl at this and think that they can't be a state champ just because there name dosen't appear on the rankings
As one of the younger coaches, I will say it's not just young/old coaches that bring them up in seedings meetings, it's pretty hit or miss. We seed by head to head for the most part. We look at past records of who is at a given tourney and compare, them come up with a coherant opinion on who should be seeded.
I can also say that to a certain extent, kids (at least the ones I encounter) could care/ care less about the rankings. Some students (remember, they remain student athletes) on this board do really care about the rankings, both 'rebel' and 'official'.
That being said, what it boils down to is they are a dicsussion point, just as Ranger said. That is a good thing. It gets people intrested, debating, buying into building kentucky wrestling. To the student atheletes that don't care, no harm done. To the coaches that don't care, no harm done. To those that do, good for them.
I would say that my gut feeling as to Coach Coomes (I won't speak for him) reason for blowing you off, is remember these are kids. Anyone in education is leery of anyone from outside the box looking in, especially in this day and age. As far as I'm concerned it's good to have two types of rankings, kind of like the AP and Coaches poll. Generates debate.
Good luck to everyone this season.
i like your rankings alot more because matt ballinger is ranked and i beat him last year
Dont feel bad Bop...I beat Senecas jeff warra several times(and never lost to him) and hes ranked...but im not worried about it.These rankings mean nothing to me.They are a hitlist on paper. The way I see it this year as im stronger and wiser...ill just go out there and whoop the pants off whoever they put in front of me,ranked or not...ill treat them all the same way.The question you have to ask yourself isnt "is he good, hes ranked"...the question you have to ask yourself is "does he know what hes getting himself into stepping on this mat with me...
I kinda applaud ya fella, there really are some good wrestlers on here, are you still going 112? or you just still have that nickname?

Im going to 112 again this year(this will be my third year at 112).Ive gotten bigger and im lifting twice as much as I used to.This should be my year...thats why I made that last post.
your year? ha, i think you need to start worrying about the studs in your weight class such as travis sullivan, adam carr, luna, and shane parks... you will have a tough time with these guys!!!

dont ever count anyone out.....just cause he hasnt placed or won it doesnt mean he cant.....its how hard you work
well c on the mat i guess!!

Come on, the guy didn't say he was planning a spot on his mantle for the gold medal. He is just saying he has worked hard and thinks he will make some noise this year.
i like to see the newer guys pop on the sences makes things intersesting and i hope to see alot of talent make our state look better and people earn there spot
I think it is great to hear someone say they worked hard to be better, there are too many kids that are good that sit back and eat cupcakes and once the mat gets put down they start to work, those are the lucky ones, the ones I like to see win are the kids that TRY to make themselves better ,,, Go Southern112!
Im not worried about them...what their rannked...how good they are.As long as i give my best ive succeeded.True victory is not about finishing first, its about finishing regardless of how many times you fail...your year? ha, i think you need to start worrying about the studs in your weight class such as travis sullivan, adam carr, luna, and shane parks... you will have a tough time with these guys!!!
