most intriguing storyline going into the season?
Topic ID: 11189 | 92 Posts
138 lb weight class. Two of the top 3 wrestlers might be done. This weight class could be wide open. Great opportunity for someone.
can you elaborate on might be done?
The best storyline this year will.be at 132. It will be like Affirmed and Alydar going at it.I know that goes back to far for some, lol. Bindner and Duncan will have some barn burners
And if Erdman comes up to 132 it will be like the Breaders Cups of wrestling, lol. Just a little horse talk for the Bluegrass state.
I agree. 132 will be loaded.
Dutch your monster isn't going 132 also?
Not sure. If he keeps growing i'm thinking he might go back to playing basketball.
138 is a good wt.for him. Lol
can you elaborate on might be done?
West & Vasquez potentially not wrestling this year.
why would they not wrestle this year ?
I don't want to misspeak about something I am not fully informed about. Maybe someone who knows more can elaborate.
Dylan West suffered a neck injury during summer training. He is ok just not worth the consequences that might occur with similar injury. From what I heard Angel will be back, came from a good source.
And if Erdman comes up to 132 it will be like the Breaders Cups of wrestling, lol. Just a little horse talk for the Bluegrass state.
Binder is huge step below Erdman. I believe they wrestled at Ryle last year and it wasn't even close. If Erdman is at 132 he will be tough to beat. I see him more as a 126 tho.
Good lucks guys
Bluegrass you are right about last year, but anyone that knows bindner and has been around this summer knows he cut to much wt.last year. This summer he has become a totally different wrestler,he has wrestled over 20 matches the past few months loosing only 1td and 2 matches while placing 3rd in the Michigan grandriver rumble, making the semi-finals in Indiana's preseason national (67kids)and won the Bluegrass state games with a bunch of high ranking wrestlers from ky.If Erdman,Bindner and Duncan go 132 it will easily be the toughest wt.class and I will bet all 3s matches are decided by 2 pts or less
Thats a tough class but ,Frankone ,Mathews and Smith if all at 182 might be considered as tough or a Tougher class.Frankone a nationally ranked guy Smith with a win over him last yr and state runner up Mathews ,If they are all there same as if they are all 132 .Erdman can cut like a beast but can wrestle anyone so he has options
Ok maybe not easily the toughest,182 also has a chance to be loaded.but a little birdie told me Erdman is going 26,so now if Duncan decided to go 38 that would be ok too
Lol
I like seeing the best kids spread out it all depends on what people want to see knowing how hard some kids train you want to see the workers all get a title ,then again most people want the epic battles that make it more memorable .Maybe they can all meet up outside of state then go their best shot weights at state .My son had a kid who I think could have challenged him one yr at state but bumped up ,I would have liked to see them wrestle but not at state as they both won titles and I was glad .Good luck to them all ,At 182 it will be interesting who may make a bump and challenge Miller and the rest at 195 Smith is very tall and could fill out And mathews and Frankrone are bruisers who could bump and still have the power to hang although I think Frankrone stays where he is its his weight class to lose .
see guys we can talk wrestling on this forum haha
Its a Forum part wrestling part debate part Total BS at times ,A Topic made about wrestling without underlying goals should stay clear of BS a topic aimed at attacking a kid is sure to lead to Anarchy .
Interested in seeing where Meiman will be. I'm thinking 170 lbs which would make for an interesting match up with Lampe possibly as early as the Raider Rumble. Or if he goes up, it would make for an even tougher 182 lb class.
That would be a crasy class but I think Meiman would have a better shot at placing higher 170 a two way monster battle rather than a four against guys who have beaten you already and are probably bigger to begin with .

I agree.
With Austin possibly Kentucky's greatest wrestler graduating after this season the last of the recent legends left I think an interesting storyline is to see what young wrestler will step up and make a statement as Kentucky's next great
I would look Towards Union and Perhaps Walton Union establishing that they shoot to beat everyone in and out of state Walton with a few there who test other waters And then Trinity X Ryle CC and SK who venture out across the River regularly and in CC case more out of than in State.
1. Does the same team win duals AND individual state?
2. CC, Union, Trinity, St. X, Fern Creek, Walton, Woodford?
This year the team with the least amount of asthmatics on the team could hit "pay dirt" due to venue selection of both tourneys. If Johnson Central or Wayne Co. attend state duals they will have to book flights, so the east coast to west coast will also come into play. Good luck to all in this year's Dirt Biathalon!
Have to agree ,not a very statewide Friendly site selection and giving the state champs home court for state Duals raises a few eyebrows ,Bad move as far as trying to raise the credibility of what should be a premiere event ,on the flip side everyone gets to visit the home of the state champs and take in some new sights .Cant wait to see this self proclaimed miniscule little town with one stop light ,im guessing the litl old country town angle is played up a bit .lol

We have 6 stop lights , all in a 2 mile line
No offense Ranger:)
No offense Ranger:)
Ha Ha! No offense here. I promise you this. We won't win state duals this season. Our young team has a lot of work to do to meet our own expectations over the next few seasons.
Where is state duels Walton or Union
Union,Didnt Woodford lose a lot ,Walton has some studs and lost some cant see them as a team threat now,Fern Creek ???Can they outscore or beat a team like Ryle ???
6 stoplights wth thats a metropolis compared to the one stop sign dirt road town I was led to believe Union was ,Jethro has been upset because he was worried about where he was going to eat there and if there were enough out houses ,
Lol he was actually more concerned about seeing the air field lol

Without a doubt a lot of talent. Just don't know if there's quite enough balance or experience. Definately could see you guys making a run in a couple years.
Anyone care to take a shot at some of the early favorites in each weight class or some of the best match ups coming up this season.
Frankrone vs Meiman....maybe. They may be 20 lbs apart this season.
Erdman vs. Binder vs. Duncan vs. Austin....any/all matchups. Austin was a huge 126 last year, wouldn't be surprised if 138.
Scheffer vs. Hurst....if Hurst will ever see 120 again.
Frankrone vs. Lampe...old teammates.
Caleb Austin has moved.
Dont like the other 32 Thread and I dont like feeding the Monkeys so this being a more widespread wrestling topic,
Super 32 Entrants are updated and I noticed a 3x KY Champ in at 220, on criteria other than past 32 showings he should be an easy 1 with 32 Criteria who knows im guessing a 1 or 2 .
And for any doubters of wether he can wrestle hvy he has beaten the new 1 ranked hvy on Flo.
Ranger, thx for the Austin update. Had no idea.....do you know where?
Also, there's gotta be some potential good match ups at 106 and 113, but not familiar with middle school kids coming up. A lot of big names gone, but KY is backfilling much better now than in years past.

Kansas I believe
Kansas I believe
Yes he is in Kansas, I've known this for a couple months but haven't had the opportunity to update Region 1 rankings in awhile. Diion Leavell is no longer at Christian County either I have been told. Two huge blows to the program, those two are tough kids
Isn't that Damian's son? If so, where did Diion go? Also, if your privy to the info, where is Damian? I haven't talked with him since HS State. I hope both are still involved with the sport. I've got nothing but respect for Coach Leavell. He has always (from high school days thru coaching) been a great person to talk to and exchange ideas with. If you can't share, PM me. If not, I'll just call him. Thanks.
Diion Leavell is still at Christian County this year. He is a stud though for sure. I got to see him when they played Caldwell County earlier this football season. I am sure he will be somewhere around 152 by wrestling season. Falcon you are definitely not keeping up with your region or your source is leaving you out in the cold. Unless Austin makes a late return from western Kansas I am positive he will will not be back for the season. Christian County has some athletes but replacing Austin will not happen for the Colonels I am sure.
Now, Fort Campbell will have a down season for sure. They will not be the team they have been the past two seasons. With the Loss of Ki Ryder and Brian Hedrick they will have a struggling season. The one thing Ft Campbell has on their side is they could get a couple ringers in that no one I knows about. They might have a couple decent guys I am sure but no major threats coming out of the Falcon team this season. What are your thoughts on the FALCONWRESTLING?
Perhaps my source was incorrect about Diion, but it was the same source for Caleb Austin, mistakes can be made and I don't fault anyone for it.
As towards your remarks concerning Fort Campbell, they are things I hear every year. "How will you replace Brandon Campbell? Thomas Campbell? Zack Bontrager? David Sahms? Ki Ryder?" Fort Campbell returns a state placer in Regaldo and three podium threats in Ryder, Haywood, and Jorstad. Ryder was not a bonus points type wrestler like say a David Sahms, so losing him really only takes away a high finisher. In fact Regaldo scored more points at the state tournament last year then Hedrick did. Going in to the state tournament last year guys like Regaldo and Hedrick weren't expect to place, Hedrick had to actually beat two wrestlers he had never beaten before. It was one of the first times in almost a decade I saw Fort Campbell actually wrestle to their potential at the state tournament and it was impressive.
Without Austin I have Christian County third in the region with Fort Campbell second and I stick by that until results speak otherwise. If Fort Campbell wrestles at the state tournament like they did last year you won't see any drop off there either.
New 106 guys to watch
Miller HC
Bender Lex Cath
Roth Wv
Tucker Woodford
I think the most intriguing storyline going into the season is to see how the 'new guys' perform after last year's group of nationally recognized guys. Fausz, Brock, Blackwell, Boston, Myers, even Carr... only ATM left. I think Brandon Johnson could have been up there but I think he's sticking to football. I would love to see the momentum keep going but it may be awhile before another group like that. Who would be 'next'? Mastrioni? Frankrone? Bindner? Looking for names for potential D1 caliber recruits or even programs on the rise to threaten X, Campbell County, Union etc.
Frankrone,Andrioni certainly,Young Smith from Walton if he makes some gains ,Scheffer is good from what I see of his record but in person im nit sure he has the national umpfh at a HS level yet , Heidorf had he made a bit of statement at fargo would of and I think could have been at the level of last yrs studs or at least mentioned in that level ,Not sure how anyone left has placed in nat tournys as far as nhsca fargo or flo goes or who have done any in season big tourneys which seems to be a ky flaw in most schools excluding Union and the Private schools .
I've always made the point that if you want to wrestle D1 you have to wrestle outside of Kentucky. Not everyone has the time or money for that sadly, but I do think we could send more then we do. There is a lot more talent in the state then is recognized nationally.
Definatly.
I think it's intriguing that Male picked up Richard Brown as an asst. . Great pick up for them.

Is that Trinity's former HC?
Yes
Not sure how it will shake out but 106-Tucker 113-Fallon 120-Hurst 126-Roberts is a good collection of lower weights and 4 guys who will all challenge for top 5 in their weight.
Add in Andreoni and if Woodford can find 2-3 more placers somewhere in the lineup they could make some noise in February.
Sounds pretty solid.
They will definitely score some points with that line up and I dare say if Mr. Hurst is at 120 there will be fireworks with him and Mr. Sheffer a very entertaining affair.
Would love to see that match up.

I loved watching boys these guys last year win titles. I think Sheffer is better than Hurst by 5-10 points. Sheffer has much better technique. I also think if any of the returning high placers at 120, Erdman 2nd, Potyner 3rd, Miller 4th make it back down they will be favorites over Hurst. Add these placers plus Sheffer good weight to watch.
I think 160 will be interesting. Can't wait to see where the chips fall.
I believe brian holden of cc may have had a growth spurt and could be as high as 138.
There's a kid I think could do some damage especially at that weight. I don't think 138 will be very deep.
What kid at 138? Or is it a secret?
I believe pin and win was refering to my post which was just in front of his. there were no secrets.
Yes, sorry. Holden is a good kid.

Hurst lost one match in state, in double OT, to the guy he then beat twice including in the state finals. He beat Poytner couple years ago. He won Tournament of Champions in Ohio this summer at 120. Not sure he is getting majored by anyone regardless of weight class. Sheffer is a stud and since he's in the Union room will only get better each year. I can't wait to see that match.
No one gave any credit to Hurst last year and he won it, looks like he's in the same spot this year. Great kid and wish him best of luck, I think he will be right there in the mix again this year.
He's ranked #2 at 120 lbs. That's not exactly disrespect. Definitely a contender at 120 lbs. Any bigger than that, he might be smallish of the weight class unless he's hit a major growth spurt.
*for the weight class.
Erdman won't be at 120 I can promise you that. My guess is Poynter and Miller will be at 126 or 32.
Looks like a lot of fireworks in the lower weights this year! Duncan and Erdman could both probably go 126 or 132. Binder seems set to not cut a ton this season, so 132 is looking pretty clear. Throw in Poynter, Miller, Scheffer, Hurst, Johnson, and others I'm leaving out and we've got some good wrestling to watch with the "no body fat club".
Woodford will have a great lineup if they can plug a few spots.
I just ment in general on here by people posting. It is good to see him get the respect of ranger and have him at two, but like last year, I see comments that make him sound like he's not even a top 5 guy. He's ranked #2 at 120 lbs. That's not exactly disrespect. Definitely a contender at 120 lbs. Any bigger than that, he might be smallish of the weight class unless he's hit a major growth spurt.

Tucker has always been a favorite of mine to watch. Much respect from me. I think there's no reason to believe he couldn't be in the finals competing for a 2nd this year.
2nd title

That's funny the "no body fat club":)
These boys are lean machines, thats for sure.
Clayton Hanson will be at 120. Jake Burroughs will be at 126. Clayton has been as heavy as 132 . Jake has as heavy as 142. Both boys of been working hard all summer. Pounding the mats and weights.
Coach Teater has a point but I wouldn't blame the ranking guys or forum posters for overlooking Hurst. He wrestled his 8th grade year well under 106 and still won a match at state and then got pushed up to 120 his freshman year when kids from out of state moved into Woodford (no shame in losing a varsity spot to Boston...that kinda thing happens). But he never weighed 120 or 122 then...more like 115, with no muscle. Still won some matches at state and should've probably placed. Lost a close 2pt match to Elijah Owens 2nd round who went on to place (Owens lost to Austin, Whalen and Poytner and placed 6th...not too shabby). Then in 2014 Hurst was at his weight and healthy and well he pretty much dominated 106 with the exception of the great matches he had with Hernandez. But no more flying under the radar. He has a target now and if he goes 113, 120 or 126 folks will be gunning for him. Couple fun seasons still ahead for a sound wrestler who I swear I have never seen get tired. Engine never stops goin. Reminds me a lot of his cousins Shane and Rusty Parks....also state champs and now his coach.
Damn, looked again at the different weight classes. It appears that unless some kids out there have improved leaps and bounds, 145 is Heidorf's to lose. I saw him wrestle scholastic duals and he looked great....don't think he lost. He's got Joey Parrott in the room with him too.
I'm with firemans34.
I think 160 will be interesting. Can't wait to see where the chips fall.
We shall see.....170 could be interesting too!
if frankrone drops to 170 it will change things up a lot!
now that is interesting! come to think of it I thought I saw miozza wrestling in the 182 class at some summer tourneys?
yep just checked he is registered 182 for S32
I think frankrone would be better served at 182.
Meaning his tougher challenge would be at 170 in Lampe.
That's no knock on Matthews. I think he's a tremendous wrestler. Lampe is a motor. Frankrone can wrestle a little slower at 182 with less a chance of gassing.
Takes a lot of blood to fill those muscles.
Why would frank one drop ?
Wky,from what i heard he just lost weight and was down around 170,but like i said just hearsay
Wky,from what i heard he just lost weight and was down around 170,but like i said just hearsay
Lost it on purpose ?
No from what i heard he just lost weight.but like i said that was hearsay,i haven't talked to him or his dad
Over the summer I got the feeling that people believe that Frankrone is a sure thing to repeat at 182 because he won the title last year. Tyler had a great end of season and got hot at the right time and won when it matters. But don't forget that he had a losing record last season to Smith (1-2) and also lost to Leaton. 182 will once again come down to who has the best state tournament regardless who is the defending champ. I hope Tyler is at 182 to make it exciting just like last year. Also, Miozza and Meiman would be best to stay at 170. 170 was a very weak weight class last season and 182 will be much tougher than what they experienced last year.
Lost it on purpose ?
Seems strange to me. I hope Tyler is healthy and ready to go this season.

I do not believe Hurst has ever beat Bobby Poynter. I do not believe they have been in the same weight class. Poynter has been a 120 all 3 years.
I don't know if they wrestled, but Hurst was at 120 the yr before last because the law sons were at 106 and 113. He gave up a ton of weight but wrestled very well.I do not believe Hurst has ever beat Bobby Poynter. I do not believe they have been in the same weight class. Poynter has been a 120 all 3 years.
Sounds like maybe an off season tournament?
Nah. Never beat him.
K...Just speculating.
Maybe we will get to see them a raider rumble . Most will be at it .
Hurst wrestled 106, 113 and 120 in 2013 (often weighed in at 113 just in case they needed him there but wrestled all weekend at 120) and went to state at 120. Remembered him beating a kid from Moore that season. Thought it was Poynter. I was mistaken. Hope they do cross paths this year. Would be a great match.
He may have wrestled Tim Poynter but he has never wrestled Bobby. Tim wrestled 106 his freshmen year.
