Harrison Courtney- undefeated state champ.
hmm idk about undefeated..
ryan ross state champ only one loss.
I got to go with Harrison Courtney winning it. And going undefeated at least in state. I think Ryan ross will make state finals
ya, id say courtney will win it, but i have a feeling he wont go undefeated but the match(s) that he loses will be tough/close ones.
how can you guys be so sure, wasnt he like 5th or 6th last year? I dont' get it
Like 3rd at 130 or 135 I think?
He lost a VERY close match in semi's. And we've already been down that road on who should have won that match....I think he was undefeated in state going into that match. As an 8th grader! I think it's safe to go with him at 140.
Courtney placed third last year at 130 as an eighth grader. You won't find me saying this often, but in the semifinals he was straight screwed by the official. In no way am I saying that it was intentional, but it was a horrible call. Courtney was the best wrestler in the state last year at 130, no question. I agree that Sanders did perform better than at state duals, but Harrison destroyed him 10-1 in their first meeting.
The year before he placed eighth at 119 as a seventh grader.
It's scary to think that he's only going to be a freshman next year and we're already debating whether he'll go undefeated or not. Most freshman are only concerned with making the varsity squad, I was.
I have to agree with nonstop521 and change my prediction to going undefeated at least in state. The Hammer & Anvil tournament in Ohio is tough, as well as the Greenville Invitational in Tennessee.
Look out for this kid when he is a senior. He will be attracting attention from almost every school, top 10 Division I schools included. He wrestles in out of state tournaments (where he excels, 2nd at Middle School Nationals last year), competes in freestyle, and lifts weights consistently. I haven't met anybody (outside of the few Olympians I've been introduced to by Coach Carr) that wrestles as much as he does or works harder (including myself). The boy has the best coaching, top quality training partners, and most of all an unmatched desire to win.
makes sense, i must have missed that match at state last year
is it a definite that hes going 140?
I don't think he was undefeated in state, didn't he lose once to Thuneman when Thuneman wrestled up a class at 130 cause he didn't make weight ? Or was that Peace i am thinking of that Thuneman beat ?
thuenemann did beat him at south oldham
I concede Courtney probably works hard, i don't know him or what he does out of season so i'll take your word on it. I've said on here many times he's potentially a great. But remember, improvement is not linear ... it slows down once you have been at something like that for a while. Like when you first start lifting, that rate of improvement doesn't continue for ever. I'll say its too early too tell where he is on that curve. I assume he probably started young, anyone know when ?
He looked older than his age, if i didn't know better i would never guess he was in 8th grade last year. If he didn't hit a growth spurt early, some kids do, he'll be as great as predicted. Only time will tell on that, as the next year or so will be telling. At the worst he'll still be a multi champ, which is nothing to brood about !
If its not a growth spurt or early development and just hard work coupled with talent i think its great. I like seeing hard work pay off for someone.
Courtney gets his head on straight he could win it this yr.... seems the last couple yrs he hasnt wrestled his best at the state tourney
courtney will do an excellent job, if not winning it he will claim runner up or third. who else do you see making a noise at state?
i didnt even think about this but if courtney goes 140 and so does aylor, who will win? wow that will be a pretty good match but id say aylor will win.
Nobody in the lower weights, except Murton, will be able to beat Courtney this year (including Thueneman, Scott, Sanders, Parker, Banks, Howard, Aylor, Walls, and Wilson). Everyone says Murton's going 130 or 135 so he can wrestle that weight for senior nationals anyway. He's on another level than those guys, what happened last year doesn't matter.
all those guys are good wrestlers. courtney would not dominate them.
Dunno about that. Thuneman is no slouch of a wrestler. I would see Courtney getting UP to their level this year. Remember, when Thuneman beat him last year he was wrestling up a class. Didn't Sanders pin him too out of season and only lose to Murton 7-4 ? I know you're a big fan, how can you write the others off like that !!
Don't know a lot about Sanders, but Thuneman was only a sophomore in his own right. Thats hardly an old man in the sport, so you can't call it an older guy beating an under developed guy. He is only two years older than Courtney. Thuneman's still got two years of improvement and already got an honorable mention in the national ranks. Courtney may improve but so will all those guys you listed.
As a freshman he'll still be unbelievable of course, but to say he'd surely beat any of those guys you listed is a stretch. None of those would be a guaranteed notch for Courtney by any means. But i guess thats why they wrestle the matches !
And while i don't know how it would go, Wilson or Aylor would have no qualms wrestling him either. Either of those matches would be a good one to watch.
all wrestlers mentionrd are capable of winning state.
all wrestlers mentioned are capable of winning state.
Murtons coach reportably said he is going 140. How does that change everyones plans?
I have a feeling that if Murton were to go 140 there would be a lot of people dodging including Courtney, Wilson, Thunemen and maybe Aylor.
I agree with you on that, they sure did a good job with that at 130 and 135,and one of them were the 130 state champion
I talked to Wilson in passing yesterday, he was already planning to go either 145 or 152. I'm sure he didn't know about the Murton news since it wasn't on here yet. Considering he's a stocky kid from the lifting he's done, his weight was almost up to 160 at one point in the offseason i was told, i'd say he's dodging no one by moving up. Aylor would probably be in the same boat, he jumped from 125 to 140 in 1 year and would likely move up again too.
Thuneman was having a hard time with his weight last year at 125, so him going 135 is reasonable. Don't know if he'd stay there if Murton goes there.
It will be interesting to see where people are wrestling the first weeks of the season. After all, this has been everyone's conjecture ... no one really has any idea where these guys will end up.
If it is true then I would obviously say Murton would beat Courtney, although I would like to see the match. If it happens at all it would be at the WCI right, not including state?
does lawrence couny even go to WCI?
Yes they've been there the last two years I think, at least last year.
banks will be at 140 to so wut about that ?
...or he may go 145...
i think courtney is going 45
i think courtney is going 45
That would be a great match "Banks and Courtney"
i think banks would win, hes more developed and stronger.
Guess you'll find out at Oldham Duals....wait, is Laure there? I don't remember.
I don't think Banks will be able to beat Courtney, although I will agree that he is stronger and more developed. Courtney just finds ways to win, when he gets on top it'll be over.
I think it would be a good match between these two. Banks is starting to become a "mature" (both menatlly and physically) wrestler which has always been one of his downfalls much like Courtneys. Both of these kids were thrown to the wolves with high expecatations placed on both of them at very young ages and they have more than held their own. Banks may very well pass Carr's record for most victories when he graduates only to hand it over to Courtney a couple of years after he gets it. Great story for two really good wrestlers.
Banks has a shot at Carr's record for most victories?? Isn't Carr like 2nd on the list nationally? How close is Banks?
JoJo's record has been beaten by at least two kids now. The first was a New York wrestler and the last one is a kid from South Dakota (I think, cause I just saw this in USA Wrestling Mag) who has blown everyone away. Banks needs about 50 wins in each of his last two seasons to break JoJo's record and I don't know if the schedule is condusive to being able to pull that off or not. He has been wrestling varsity since seventh grade and he was actually the main subject of the rules change that allowed middle schoolers to wrestle at the varsity level. That was a very sore spot for some folks when it all took place because of Banks wrestling both middle school and varsity. I think that those tensions have eased up a lot now and most people realize that if you can do both, more power to you since I don' here it discussed as much but I do see kids doing both.
what is carr's record? how many wins does he have?
