Vega won a tight one. Should be a great match to watch.

Hurst led 3-2, and almost got some near fall but the clock ran out. Vega hit a slick 5 pt move (nasty throw) and took lead for good.  He milked his blood time and was hit for stalling twice. Vega was gassed. Hurst took him down and let him go 3 times in 3rd period to attempt to make up the gap.  He almost did.  It was 9-8 with maybe 20 seconds left he tried an inside trip and Vega got the TD making the final 11-8.  Great match.

Has Vega wrestled Moore from Walton Verona yet? Those 3 seem to be the top dogs at 113 and I don't see one dominant over the other 2.  State draw will be huge for this weight

Vega wont be denied title number 2 this year.

I don't think it's crazy to say this years state tournament will be more exciting than last years

I got my money on Vega. The kid is a monster. I mean Tucker is a great kid and amazing athlete, but Vega is just a straight up savage.

Little inside scoop. Heidorf will not be wrestling this weekend. Nursing some injuries. Nothing serious but this weekend off will help him heal up a little. This is definate.

Love both guys mentioned at 113. My son has competed against both and both have tremendous talent but don't count out little Moore. Kids a freakin motor and technique is sound. Someone is not going to be happy with their draw this year at 113.

You are right No-OX it is not a 2 horse race for state at 113, I am very high on Vega but with Vega it all comes down to CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO,if he is in shape i think its his to lose but if not i could see a couple kids beating him

How about 132 at the dragon and state. Two horse race in my opinion. Keegan winning all the close match ups this year but all very close. Bindner knocking at the door. Does he figure it out when it counts the most?! Font count him out. A ton of experience between the two of them.

Well foxtrot i know we drew the defending state champ in the quarters and dutchs wrestling interest drew the eventual state champ in the quarters and they were all on the bottom part of the bracket

In terms of what Dutch is talking about....I think he meant in terms of how solid the competition was last year in that weight class.

Yes and the 2 best could actually meet in the quarters with no seeding

Plus think of it this way,at 113 vega,hurst, moore could all be on the same side,Erdman and poynter could meet in the quarters,Bindner and Duncan could meet in the quarters and serval other weight classes that most people seem to think are between 2 or 3 kids. It totally takes away the quality of the finals.

Another one could be Saul ervin and Hernandez in the quarters last year and frankrone and Wyatt courtney as well

I agree Moore is right there with Hurst and Vega.  Hell he has proven that with his performance against the two so far this season.  If these three are on the same side of the bracket that will truly be a damn shame. Just seed top 4! Its not that tough and long overdue.

I'm with Ranger. Seed region champs like middle school and it takes away any fighting over top 4.....DONE. Yes it's harder in certain regions, but it takes away 1 vs 2 in quarters in just about any situation. Just do it already.

Does anyone know if any other KHSAA State Championships are seeded? I know football and basketball are not. It seems every year the number 1 team in basketball goes down in district or region. At the basketball state tournament sometimes the 1 and 2 meet before the finals. In my opinion, if KHSAA doesn't seed the other state championships, they will not seed wrestling state.

If 1 and 2 are in same region they'd be placed on opposite sides of bracket because they're in same region

I have no idea why in any sport you wouldn't strive to get the 2 best in the finals.So how would people like to see say UK vs Duke or Virginia in the second round.it is beyond logical thinking to me.I know if my son or his teammates are eliminated from the tournament the next thing i ask myself IS IT WORTH STAYING LATE FOR THE FINALS. If it is some great matchups my answer is usually yes.I am sure the KHSAA wants more people there for the money,so i really don't understand why they wouldn't want to make more money and maybe draw in a few more spectators so the sport could grow

        It is a frustrating situation with the non-seeding of our Ky State tournament. All of the ideas from the posts above would solve the issue. I don't see that happening in KY,  it is sad but true.  Ultimately there is a FINALS match at every state tourney in the quarters or semis. What weight will it be this year?  Somebody's boy who worked their can off all year long may be third, period. SEED THIS THING

I'm not a fan of how this tournament was seeded. I'm wondering if they had a committee or a meeting. The Dragon debacle of three years ago comes to mind.

I see a JV kid with a higher WP, that was most likely all JV, seeded in top 3, above varsity wrestlers with much more wins, but I guess not win percent.

I see a kid that was a State Placer last year, one of only four in the bracket, 2nd at the Rumble, 3rd at Mater Dei and just won JCTOC by Tech Fall seeded LAST, while wrestlers with losing records are 5 places in front of him. That one is pretty much a joke.

This same thing happened three years ago and some teams quit going to this tournament as a result of the 3-4 hours spent re-seeding the tournament. Somebody messed up, it may not be South Oldham's fault but this is crazy. Cream always rises, but this violates the principles of seeding and defeats the purpose.

Several of those brackets looked completely screwed up.  #9 in the state at 113 is seeded 15th.  Looks like only the top few were seeded, and everybody else was randomly drawn in.  That's a joke when only wrestling back to 5th place and allowing the semi losers to wrestle for 3rd and 4th.  A decent kid catches a bad random draw, loses a tough first match and can't finish better than 5th, and a not so good kid catches a good draw and a bye in a less than 16 man bracket and can finish 3rd or 4th.

It doesn't even look like winning percentage, or even head to head was considered in many cases.  Many brackets look completely random after the top 2.

Just saw that and was going to comment. Ridiculous! 113 is a joke too. There is a 0% chance of the current seeding standing. The coaches will sort this out in the morning. If they don't.........WOW!! Can't believe they would even release anything that looks that silly. Who's in charge of this tournament? The KHSAA?? Lol!

It's was probably just entered in and hadn't been seeded other then the info put in. And then released on accident. Just a guess.

This might be the only time I ever say I wouldn't have minded staying longer at a tournament. I felt everything ran smooth one we got started and moved along nicely. But I really wish the 1st/2nd place finals matches were done one at a time. I think I may have gotten whiplash looking back and forth with so many good/great matches going on at one time. Binder and Duncan had a great match, so good that I overlooked a match with one of our own team members wrestling.

It was good to see people I hadn't seen this year. Even you Mike... HAHA. Always enjoy talking to you.

I think you are forgetting about Austin Cook from St.X at 113. I'm not saying he will win but should place. He is a returning state placer I believe. He has already pinned Shultz this year. I believe his only KY losses at 113 are to the top 4 ranked guys Vega, Moore, Hurst, and Wells. I also don't think Castellano or Wells finish above Hurst unless it is due to the draw. I'm pretty sure wells beat cook 10-2 or something like that. Also Castellano lost to wells 4-2 and 2-0. I think he should place top 5. It just depends on draw. Hoping maybe Castellano beats wells eventually from all the close matches. Should be good.

I think everyone is forgetting ,once your out of the top 3 anything is possible you can be a 4 and end up in the stands because of draws .

You are right! It is possible for the top 4 ranked guys at any weight to all end up on the same side of the state bracket if all are from different regions. Makes for less exciting finals but it is what it is.
