KSWA State seeding meeting

Topic ID: 11547 | 91 Posts

Coaches of individual region champions should be on our conference call Sunday night at 8:00 pm eastern to seed the 4 region champs at each weight. The brackets will be drawn based on this seeding process. Dial in information will be shared through region hosts.

What is the seeding criteria?

Usual stuff:

Head to head, common opponents, returning champ/placer, record

What is the number

What is the number

Your region host should have provided that. If not send me a pm or email.

Will the finalists be seeded and all others be random?

Region Champions are seeded 1-4

1 seed gets 4 seeds 4

2 seed gets 3 seeds 4

3 seed gets 2 seeds 4

4 seed gets 1 seeds 4

Ok that's what I thought thanks.

Ranger,

With it being a 16 man bracket what seeds travel with each other?  In regionals it was the 1 and 3 is it the same or is it the 1 and 4.

Once the seeds are taken care of will they be posted?

Thanks

With a 16 man bracket it is 1-4 and 2-3 together from same region.

I will try to post them tonight after the call.

It sure would be  nice if the leader would join the conference call, lol.

Coaches how can you not show up to the call to seed your kids, right off the bat 2 coaches not on the call to give insight on their kids.

Who?

Who?

Not fair to post who there could be very good reasons why they are not on it.

Cudos to other coaches who are chiming in with info to help those kids (that IMO is one of the great things about the MS coaches in KY Wrestling)  It does suck though that in same case overall record / common opponents would help and we dont have it.

Who doesn't have that information?

Who doesn't have that information?

Anybody on the call thats the issue.

Track has a lot of that info.

You got any seek peeks for some weights?

Track has a lot of that info.

You got any seek peeks for some weights?

Not everybody uses track for all events.

I have info, how much you willing to pay for it, lol.

Info will be posted tomorrow I would assume.

Ok whatever

I put together a bracket for certain weight earlier. I would bet it is pretty close to 100% correct. If your just intrested in who a certain kid has first round, it's not too hard to figure out. If your kid was 2nd in the Region, you can narrow his possible opponents to 1 of the 3 third place finishers from a region that is not your own. If you have further knowledge of the weight class, you can narrow it down even more. Not too hard to figure out. Just takes time and research.

We would need to know all the region placers first.  Who would have that info and how can we get it?

The Region results can be found on Trackwrestling. Some can be found on this website as well.

Anyone care to share the seeds? IWIN, which weight class do you have created? I've got the matchups figured out, just unsure on where the 2 vs 3 matchups will go on the bracket. I'm pretty confident I have them on the right half of the bracket though.

Are the seeds going to be posted anytime soon?

The 1 seed draws the 3 seeds 2 and the 2 seed gets the 1 seeds 3

pin2win, once you have seeds, you can match them by process of elimination. The 1 and 4 from the same region will be on one side of the bracket, and the 2 and the 3 will be on the other. The determining factor of which region wrestles which, is how the seeding of the region champs play out. If you have a good idea of how those seeds played out, you can start plugging in names. The 2s and 3s can be tricky, but I saw a pattern that I followed. You can easily narrow it down to 2 possibilities. I know this is probably about as clear as mud. Sorry.

IWIN, thanks for your input. I'm pretty sure I have it all the matchups correct, placement of the 1s vs 4s, but the placement of 2s and 3s is what i'm unsure on. Hopefully they make the brackets public here soon, and don't sit on them until middle of next week. The suspense will kill some people.

This is a key I've used.  Hopefully it helps:

Thanks MLee!

Just post them, how hard is it to do? Same tune, different year.

Good stuff MLee. That's exactly how mine turned out. I did mine with #s though, so I went a little more cross eyed seperating Regions 1-4 with seeds 1-4. The letter system seems a little easier. pin2win, apparently MLee is whole lot better than me at explaining a good system to use!! Lol.

Just post them, how hard is it to do? Same tune, different year.

With your lack of patience and understanding that people may have other things going on, I might wait at least another day to post it.

Take a breath and relax.

Ranger, how dare you have a family, a job, practice to run or anything else going on!!! Now get of your lazy rear and cater to the fans immediately!!!!

Wait as long as you want, that!s your perogative Ranger King.

Wait as long as you want, that!s your perogative Ranger King.

Actually yes it is.

But remember there were like 50 other coaches on the call.

Post when it is convenient for you. 50 other coaches on call has nothing to do with posting seeds.

Ranger what about those rankings. Region has been over 2 days. Also where are the brackets thought the seeding meeting was last night

You forget to mention we should have already seen the 2015-2016 rankings posted.

Real men of genius ..... Mr middle school wrestler ranking guy... Get them brackets out..... Yaaaaaaaaoooooowwww!

Ranger is just another one of those typical FatCat CEO Types. Collecting that huge salary and not giving two sh**s about the little guy. Remember Ranger you are here to serve us!!!

Just to have a clear understanding, Ranger inputs all the wrestlers into track on his time as being president? Does anyone else assist him on this task?

You suck up!!!  IMO Ranger needs to manage his time better and get this taken care of.

I got a better idea Chris , Ranger should enlist your service as his personal secretary and have you input all the wrestlers during practice when your sitting with all the other wrestling moms!!

Yes let's have a ladder match loser does it

Yes let's have a ladder match loser does it

I'm 100% in for that I'll bring the ladder meet me at the Walton Verona field house at 6 tomorrow

Post when it is convenient for you. 50 other coaches on call has nothing to do with posting seeds.

As soon as you are ready to get off the couch and put some work in yourself we are electing new officers in 2 weeks. All you have to do is let me know and I will be more than happy to put your name on the ballot.

bring the ladder to the field house, hmmm sounds like you're going to get sucked into cleaning the gutters out. ha

Is the template that M Lee has posted correct Ranger?

I ment the arrangements a1 vs d4 post

MLee is correct

Wow!  No whinning and complaining today?

Thanks Mike.

I think people's frustrations are not knowing how brackets are arranged and the idea of not keeping things out in the open will lead to moving kids around to benefit their chances of placing.  I know this is not the case because most of us know who puts these together would not do that, but I do see it happen in off season tourneys a lot.  Plus most people who complaining are parents and are not privileged to all the info.

Also, if coaches really understand how the process worked, they would really put up a better arguement for their wrestlers in the #2 or #3 seeding of the #1's.  If what MLee has posted is correct, I can see a huge advantage in the 86lb class with Lee being a #2 and Ballinger being a #3.  The #3 will have to face Mattingly who is by far the toughest #2.  Also how in the world was Deck not the overwhelming #1 at 98?  Thats surprising.

86 1 seed is from Region 1 so Region 1s 2 can't be on the top. Looks like 3 would be the most appropriate place. It does suck but that's how it falls out. Some overall 1s have the toughest 2 it is just part of the tournament.

The problem with your statement is no one person can rearrange the brackets to better anyone. Approx. 50 coaches were on the seeding meeting call. They heard every weight and every seed. Once seeds are decided, the bracket works itself out. There are no questions or ways to manipulate it without changing the seeding. So nothing is hidden from any coach who took the time to participate in the seeding meeting call. If they wrote down each weight and the seeded wrestlers all they need to figure out every bracket is the region results which are already posted either on here or on trackwrestling.

I don't think he's saying mattingly should be on top. I think he's saying that he would think that the coaches for region winners that are the #2&#3 seed would have put up a better fight for seeding so that their wrestler didn't have to face mattingly until later in the bracket.

See post 12

I wasn't saying anyone was rearranging brackets.  I was just saying until MLee posted how to arrange the brackets, there was no info out in the open on how the process worked, which could lead to this type of speculation.  If this info was out in the open then we wouldn't see so many people complaining and fearing the worst.

Thanks Plantmanky1.  It kinda makes sense now that I see that post, but the guy has been ranked #1 all year long and has been a state runner up the past 2 years to Tucker from Woodford.  I don't see how the process could not make him a #1.  I guess the other coach was really convincing.  Probably an attorney!

I rarely post on this site but here are the facts

2013 Deck       6th at 75

         Wheeler  3rd at 80

2014 Deck       2nd at 86 to Tucker

Wheeler  2nd at 92 to Roth

2015 Deck  undefeated in state opponents at 105

Wheeler  undefeated in state opponents at 98

The mediator made the call there were no arguments and no I'm not an attorney just the coach that was on the call for my team and actually I didn't say much just the facts.

One more thing Tucker was the runner up in 2013 to Yenter he won his first state title 2014.

Come on now, let's not get bogged down with the facts.

Does Deck have any loses to Ky opponents at the middle school level? Just curious.

The information is out there you just have to do a little research to find it.  KSWA is using the same format as last year.  If you really wanted to figure out who would have who just work the brackets from last year.

It's not our fault that we did our homework and made the best possible situation for our wrestlers!  As a coach, parent, or team mom it is our job to give our kids the best chance.

Coaches that do their homework certainly do and should make a case for their wrestlers.  In the case of 86, Lee had a head 2 head win over Ballinger.  Not much arguing.

Come on MLee that was WAYYYY too soon.

Actually thanks to some help from a Brave little elf the brackets are completed and ready to open to the public on track. I just need to do one last qc check. The event is called KSWA State Championship on track.

Random draw or seeding, some people are never going to be happy either way it's done.

Seeding the regional winners certainly has to be more fair than a random draw.

Is it really a legitimate complaint that one weight class is not a perfect bracket.......

Perfect brackets are never going to happen in any way the brackets are drawn.

The seeding meeting had coach input for all kids except two.

I'd say that's as fair overall as it can be done!

Now it's up to the kids to sort it out!!

Hey Ranger, just went to Track and found the event just as you have it posted. Unfortunately it said that the brackets weren't available to the public yet. Am I doing something wrong, or are you still doing your final check? Thanks in advance for your help.

didn't Deck beat Wheeler head to head this year?

Yep, still double checking the seeding and matchups. The Brave man did a lot of work in a short time and I don't want to hear the whining when someone's name is spelled wrong or someone possibly ends up placed in the wrong spot.

Wrestling fan you now have a full 10 days to study not just the seeds but the full bracket and figure out that foolproof strategy for the state tournament.

Let me be one of the first to say thank you for putting this together in less than 2 days. I'd like to see people like "wrestling fan" step up and help us make this a better state for wrestling. Run for office and do their part instead of criticizing the people that do it for free in their limited free time. It's a thankless job with the only reward being the love of this sport and the satisfaction of coaching or watching our kids compete locally or nationally and how far they've came. It's not about the "wrestling fan" first, it's about the wrestlers first. Thanks Ranger and Brave for getting it right!!

Well said.

Thanks again for posting the seeds, that is all I asked for. I am so happy that you found the kindness in your heart to post them and not leave me wondering.

The bracketing is useful because you may see some of the match-ups this weekend. Thanks for getting them out there!

Thanks Ranger!

You only have to thank me once; remember you don't 2 boys in this one.

With your lack of patience and understanding that people may have other things going on, I might wait at least another day to post it.

Take a breath and relax.

Come on now. I think everyone appreciates those who volunteer their time. It's a thankless task. However, there's no need to smart off to people just asking for seeds is there?

Wrestling fan you now have a full 10 days to study not just the seeds but the full bracket and figure out that foolproof strategy for the state tournament.

See above.

Maybe I'm misreading the tone. Maybe there is an inside joke. Maybe you have a close friendship with Wrestlingfan and this is a joke.

If not, you're really kind of arrogant.

All the guy asked for were the seeds to be posted.

Just post them, how hard is it to do? Same tune, different year.

TReynolds wrestling fan wasn't just asking nicely to see the seeds. He was being rude and unappreciative which is probably why Ranger responded the way he did.

Just post them, how hard is it to do? Same tune, different year.

Maybe Ranger isn't all that arrogant, he just "misread" the tone

Exactly, see previous posts/response with iwin. Wrestling fan starting complaining less than 24 hrs after the seed meeting was completed. For those interested here is how I "wasted" that time:

Sunday 10 pm - seed meeting is complete

Shortly after I went to bed because

4:30 am - I woke up to take my kid to religion class then school

9:00 am - in an offsite work meeting (you know the job that I actually get paid to do)

4:30 pm - leave meeting and drive home to pick up my younger son to take him to practice

6:00 pm - practice for 2.5 hrs

9:30 pm - get home from practice and eat dinner

Would have been nice to spend a little time with my wife and daughters as well but that didn't really get to happen.

Maybe you guys are better and more efficient than me and could have completed all this and dealt with posting seeds AND getting the tournament actually entered in track so the actual brackets could be published. Posting seeds just wasn't on my priority list. As I said before, anyone ready to show us how it is done just needs to step up and volunteer for a board position and wow us.

You really shouldn't eat dinner so late. It's not healthy for you.

You really shouldn't eat dinner so late. It's not healthy for you.

Exactly! No way around it. We go straight from football practice 6-8 all fall to wrestling practice 6-8:30 all winter. Can't get home before 9 so it is what it is.

I've got no dog in the fight. I'm just saying the guy didn't deserve to be ridiculed for asking.

I've got no dog in the fight. I'm just saying the guy didn't deserve to be ridiculed for asking.[/

Just curious, does wrestlingfan have a wrestler in a MS program? If so, I'm sure he's one of the 50 coaches on the phone call last night with us that recieved the information for his wrestler. That's the person he should be asking for the seeding. No where does it say that Ranger owes us an update on wrestling forum. He does it and the rankings because he wants to add value to our state MS program. So he doesn't owe anyone anything. So let's move on and talk about what's important, the tournament and the great kids in Kentucky Wrestling!! Good luck to all the wrestlers that qualified this year!

I've got no dog in the fight. I'm just saying the guy didn't deserve to be ridiculed for asking.

Let's try this again.

No problem with asking. Iwin asked and received a simple friendly answer. Wrestling fan asked and got snotty when they were not posted immediately, thus received a less than friendly response.

That's me. Take it or leave it. Ask anyone who knows me well. I get along with many many people. Treat me the way you want to be treated.

...and for all of that, I can't imagine why Ranger wouldn't want his run as the KSWA President to continue.  Glad he is part of our team for many years to come.
