138.. stab in the dark

Topic ID: 11558 | 62 Posts

Ok. First off talent is deep here, deepest of the 14 weight classes. Heres my stab.

1. Aj. Binder- rumor has been floating around on here he is coming up to 138. If the case hes the favorite here. I believe his only losses are to Duncan, who is a tough cookie to crack. The match btw was one of the best I have witnessed all year (dragon). Do believe he is too slick and smart for the rest here.

2.Bryan Sparh- Picks up a win over Bj. Miller this past weekend. Has already beaten miles, and correct me if I'm wrong but dont recall any losses to top 10 company at 138.

3. TRENT JOHNSON- young gun is on a role and will be a powerhouse in the near future. Has wins now over vasquez, bird, miles, henehan, with a loss to emerson

4.. Angel Vasquez- senoir, been solid for many years now. Seems the injury has set him back quite a ways. Still will be a competitor come state time. Lost to Trenton Johnson

5.Bj miller- senoir, full of fight. Has 2 wins over state placer currently ranked 4th Derek Miller.

6 through 10 are a coin flip, any given day could end up differently.

Brady emerson-beats johnson, pinned by Woodford, looses to henehan and miles

Derek miller- solid wrestler

Dallas miles- capable of pulling upsets, or being extreamly upset come state time.

Derek Wiley- close losses to angel, pins henehan.

Jeremy henehan- beat Emerson, pinned by Wiley and johnson

Outside of the top few, there is more inconsistency in this weight class then I have ever seen. The draw will be very important to many, still wished tbey would seed top 4. Believe the edge would go to binder, if the rumor is accurate, if not the door is off the hinges.

I believe sparh lost to Vasquez at the rumble.

Nicely done!

I believe it's Binder and then the rest. Johnson looked great at the Dragon, so if put him right there....even in front of Spahr. And since Vasquez already beat Spahr, I'd throw him in at 3

Im sure many are hoping Sparh loses to vasques again ,but that will most likely ,not happen CC wrestles different schedule than most a one point or one td win does not amount to much by years end if your not wrestling tough comp ,but Sparh has been oit a lot himself with injury so who knows .

Leak from North has beaten Emerson and 1-1 with Henehan. Beat Miles , goes OT with Johnson every time they meet. Crazy weight !!!!

kind of like the teams this yr it will depend on who shows up and who has the best day .

FWIW BJ Miller dec Trent Johnson 5-4 at Caldwell Duals early in the season.

This weight class is going to be crazy at state... Really looking forward to those quarterfinal and semifinal matchups! The seeding of this weight class would be insane, probably best to just let the random draw play out here, especially when anyone can beat anyone in this weight

Lol i forgot about leak, there's another in the mix.wow going to be some great 2nd round matches. The team race could also be wild but i will give a slight edge to St.X.they field a lot of wrestlers that will score points, just not many champions. There are several teams with a big shot but each of them maybe 1 injury away from falling out of contention.Health and the random draw will play the biggest part in determining the championship, gonna be fun to watch

Vasquez is a Junior, it just seems like he has been around forever.  This is a crazy weight.  I won't count Bindner here until it actually happens.  Even if it does happen, I'm not convinced you just give him the top spot.

Proud of AJ , has had a great season!!!

Yes mac there are many kids that have beat each and more than once,so IMO Vasquez still has to be number 1 with only 1 loss

Not completely sure about this going off memory, But I am sure that if I am incorrect someone will point it out.   Sparh lost to Vasquez by one at the rumble. Vasquez had  a 5 point move in the 1st.

Sparh started turning things around looked like the stronger wrestler at the end but ran out of time. It was early and Vasquez had some health concerns and may have been a little out of shape.

I think Sparh is 1 and 1 against Wiley.

I do not give the #1 spot to Binder until he can show he can handle the bigger stronger wrestlers some of which have came down from 150lbs.

B10 you are right even if Aj was to go 138 there's no way he's a shoe in ,I think he would be slight favorite but he would have to bring it every match or he could get beat second round. Thanks No-OX he has done well, just can't get by that stud Duncan, lol

Spahr did lose to Vasquez early in the year (1 point decision) the second week of the season.  According to Track the only other loss to a KY wrestler is Miller (injury time).  If the question is who should be ranked where today, I give Spahr the edge.  With this class it's anybody's guess.  What makes it so interesting to me is that it will come down to style and matchups, anybody could win.  Thinking about it, maybe this weight was like this last year too, but Fausz was too dominant for us mortals to tell.

.

Well said Granby

I believe bindner has already made a jump 113-132? This weight class looks more and more like uk basketball everyday.

I'll believe it when I see it....binder going 138. Kid above him was pretty big. Not sure if decent plans will make it work...and if FC is going for team title

I tried to edit and hit the button to fast. Caution on Green!

Physically, AJ looks like he needs to go up. I can't help but think that with a little more strength Duncan doesn't get that reversal. Hitchings will do what is best for the team.

Johnson is kicking butt everywhere-although he did lose to Spahr earlier in the year-Anyone believe he should be ranked higher?  Can Johnson keep his momentum going?  Young guys seem to be doing great things at State-Look at Carr last year for example-138 is an unbelievably Monster weight class-maybe Johnson vs a healthy Vazquez in the FINALS-Don't forget about BJ Miller either-Spahr keeps a low profile but has wrestled VERY well this season-another big dog in the hunt!!!!

If Hennehan does not weigh in at 134 this weekend than he cannot wrestle at 134 for region. His weight assessment may not let him get there this weekend. the only option would be to bump everyone up.

Bindner has no thoughts of going to 138.  His only thoughts are trying to figure out a way to beat Duncan.  Our lineup is set.

Im going to assume RYP you are the coach.

Guess that squashes all of this talk. So lets keep the conversation going without Binder in the mix.

We may finally have a time when it actually means something to qualify for 32 man state.

what is binder switchin schools? weight classes? hair color? shoe brand?

he wrestled duncan close. almost got there.  I think the move up to 138 would put him outside the top 3.

Look i knew before this post Aj was not going 138 i was just having a little fun with it.If you go to another post someone said poynter went up to 132 for the competition but just going up doesn't always mean its tougher, sometimes going down you catch better company.Yes everyone take a chill pill it was for fun,but here is some facts for if your wandering if he could have handled the weight jump like depperschmit was talking about, funny thing while he was making a case for spahr to be number 1 he didn't seem to think aj could handle the weight jump, but aj beat Spahr this past summer and also beat torgenson(who is doing pretty well at 145)so that could answer that question.Am i saying aj would win 138? NO.But I am saying they would definitely know he was there.Had he known then what he knows now he may have been at 138.138 would be a more difficult path to the finals but if he did make the finals i can guarantee you it wouldn't be as tough as Duncan. So no Ajs not changing schools, head bands, hair color and maybe not even his underwear.Just having something to joke about so relax and talk about the kids that are at 138.

Yes Poynter went up for competition. He asked to. AT Dragon 132 was a tougher weight class then 126.

Yes thomam and i commend him for that.Thats what good wrestlers do.I hope he is ok, he is a very classy young man

Yes a great young man. He will be fine. Thanks!

I sure like what I'm seeing. One of the biggest knocks on Ky wrestling was that our top teir wrestlers could compete with anyone but after the top 1 or 2 there was a sharp dropoff. Want to see interest in the sport grow? look no further than 113 and 138

Who wants to see a 1 horse race?

Your looking at a glass half empty rather than full ,the kids who were and do get noticed for being top tier or well ahead in classes ALL did well against out of state Comp ,Fahy ,Brock ,Cooper ,and Fausz usually did very well outside of KY and could battle the best from other states and could get noticed or place in National tournaments,

SAYING THE COMP IS TIGHTER DOES NOT CHANGE THE WAY KY is now looked at ,People outside the ones who are doing the knocking will simply say KY has lost its studs .

If your horses can run with other states horses or can all run at the speed of your own states former champs its a good thing ,if not all your doing is watching a close race between a bunch of nags ,Dont fool yourself And im sure the results at nat duals do and will show it ,The Crop in KY is not what it was a couple yrs back a few yrs back or what it was last yr .

Dont take my post as negative its just a fact and a notice to the few young kids out there who are knocking on the door of being those 1 horse show kind of kids ,step it up and do not set your standards by those around you ,I saw one kid this weekend worthy and Hungry intense and doing and saying what I think a champ would do to get better ,and im not talking about ATM ,When a young kid with one leg shows up and puts fear in a room you have to be impressed .

And its the 1 horse show kids who set the standard and give inspiration to every kid out there because they are what everyone wants to be DOMINANT.

Like I said. want to see intrest GROW?  before you can increase the numbers of kids doing things out of state you have to increase the numbers don't you? look at the shear numbers of kids wrestling in ohio, pa Ny.etc. with higher numbers come more standouts.

I am thinking of the future of ky high school wrestling which unfotunatally means after ATM. who leads the way then?

I actually think that a team like Graham hurts the overall strength of ohio over time because all the best want to go there many of the second or third best in the state are sitting on the bench at Graham. when the power is all in one place intrest will fade. It's the close competition that will spark intrest. trust me there will be more posts about 113 and 138 this year than 220.

113 is a one horse race. Its secretariat vs the rest. Will be no talk about this weight or 220 or 120. There all dominated by 1 wrestler. Mark it down 113 will be won soundly bonus points throughout by Vega

It's official 113lbs, 120lbs and 220lbs.  These weight classes will not at the state tourney this year.

Vega just wrestled a 6-3 match over the weekend and has had close matches all year long what makes you so sure he is all of a sudden untouchable?

nice confidence is important.

ok well now we have a lot to discuss, Graham does not always rule the roost in Ohio I came from there and they are often behind ST Eds,and theres no way they hurt ohio they create a lot of champs in ohio even from other schools whos kids train there ,im seriously doubting your wrestling know how,

and im very sorry and not to fall into your trap ,you said the field closing in on each other is good and more people will talk about 113 than 220 ,seriously before now duiring and after state is over people will be talking about a 220 from KY and that is far far better for the state than whatever it is you are implying is going on at 113 or anywhere else ,TRUST ME THERE IS NOT AND HAS NOT BEEN MORE POSTS ABOUT 113 or 138 and there will not be ,what you see as a 220 not being discussed because its a battle for second most of the state sees as a topic of discussion and pride in having a national champ or finalist a 4 x champ a Fargo AA and hopeful and soon to be announced Dapper Dan participant who will represent KY as its 220 and Champ ,so talk on about 113 and 138 and claim they are better ,while your at it keep up the stance that not having nat level champs dominate a field is good ,thats ignorance ,every state has standouts PA and Ohio included and they do not hurt their states they help them ,Like Taylor from Ohio or Guilibon from Pa ,it gives kids goals .Next time you go to a youth or jr high practice let me know how many kids in there tell you its their goal to be in a tight race with a bunch of kids in their class in HS states and then ask them who they know and want to be like ,

Has Vega wrestled Moore?

Austins a stud, but even nationally the competition at the upper weights are not the same as the smaller guys.

You are right at Fargo its much tougher ,I hear that speech all the time usually from people who have no kids at the national level or do not notice that the top p4p wrestler in the country last yr was a 220 or that the num 2 at 220 ATM has beaten the num 1 at hvy and has a better record ,A 220 wins two ows at cen reg last yr and the 220 class at fargo was loaded with now D1 wrestlers and had a 5 x nat champ in it that DNP ,You obviously do not have a real knowledge of what goes on nationally ,And the 220 class in ky may appear weaker because it is dominated ,If it was close people would say it was tougher

Why dont you explain your statement like I do my opposition to it.

Are you saying to me it is harder to win super 32 at for say 220 then say 132 or 126? When there are over twice as many more kids at those lower weights

?

Has Vega wrestled Moore?

Vega won 3-1 over Moore at the Bearcat Brawl according to trackwrestling.

I think what he meant by there will be no talk about 113 120 and 220 is the fact that 120 and 220 have dominate wrestlers basically stating a fact that no one is beating Austin I don't think he meant anything negative

Vega just wrestled a 6-3 match over the weekend and has had close matches all year long what makes you so sure he is all of a sudden untouchable?

That 6-3 match was against Trinity kid. Cook then beat him in Conso finals 12-4. Hurst has pinned him.  lol

Crazyhorse,

In your opinion what is the best win ATM has against KY wrestlers?? Just curious.

So let's see he could have to go through cook,Hurst and Wells to see Moore in the finals. If Vega beat Moore by 2 That may be a problem. Cause that freshman has been building steam.

So since this topic is about the 138 lb weight class, I'm guessing Vega will win it hands down? Oh wait, I'm just one of the "geniuses that cant figure out how to make the betterment for wrestling youth." Carry on off topic as usual.

Great Idea we make a thread for every weight class and see which one gets more hits. (excluding off topic posts!)

super 32 is football season how many 120 football players do you know as for the level at upper weights although I do not care about 32 because its a joke Austin had a top 20 ranked kid in the quarters .

And fargo in his class was a lot tougher than many lower weights ,look it up look at the kids and where they are and their credentials .

your right its a 138 thread but people drifted and are and did ask questions ,Dont blame me coaches and khsaa cannot get along I simply stood my ground that the state dual weigh ins should not count and kids should get more opps to wrestle.

Austins best win in KY ,thats easy his closest and most important and against a class opponent ,His 4_0 win against Newberry as a freshman against a returning champ and placer ,that would be any High School kids biggest win ,His win in a few weeks will be nice a dream of four state titles going undefeated may be right there. Deepshmitt you can talk about whatever class You want lol it will not change facts theres more to talk about because its wide open ,doesnt have anytbing to do with the class ,and what you may see as people talking more and getting hits on I would laugh at ,I have talked disputed debated and argued on more threads and with more hits than anyone in two states lol .

Normally you speak about things you know very well. This time you are speaking about something you clearly have no idea as to what you are talking about. Go ahead and tell me all you know about wrestling but you have not been involved in the decision making so you have no leg to stand on. I sit here and watch you babble your nonsense and keep my mouth shut but I won't have someone tell me The coaches association and myself are not out for the good of the sport or its participants.

Chill out Dont be such a drama queen ,You cant tell me that it wouldnt benefit wrestlers if the state duals and qualifiers did not count against the teams weigh ins ,that was my Whole and only point ,I asked who the genius were who made the rules and I doubt anyone who knows the sport would disagree ,you cannot make a full schedule not knowing if you will make state duals or not if the weigh ins count and why would a small school risk losing out an opportunity to wrestle .As I said someone is not looking out for the teams and kids ,if its khsaa then its them if you represent the coaches then I would think they would try their best to see the changes made unleas they have other reasons ,Saying I babble nonsense and know nothing about somethings may be true but I can see where having no weigh ins count against duals would help everyone ,and thats all I claimed to think or know ,No nonsensense babbling about it ,And wether your or khsaa likes it it hurts the sport counting the weigh ins for state duals .

How did a 138 lb thread get turned into Vega and ATM and state dual proceedings lol

I think if AJ Bindner does bump permanently to 138 the only real competition for his first title would be Trent Johnson who seems to be hitting on all cylinders. I heard Josh Johnson say that Trent is twice as good now as he himself ever was.

385,Aj is not going 38 it was tossed around but its to late to make changes.I thought going up 3 weight classes this year might be to much but turns out goin up 4 may have been his best shot at a title ,but hes not giving up on getting one at 32.Well on to the topic 3 weeks ago i told Trent Johnson he was my sleeper to win 38 but now he is no longer under the radar but at the top of the list(or close). If josh said Trent is better than him thats a hugh compliment bc Josh was VERY tough.Spahr and Johnson had big weekends, but unlike Johnson,Spahr won kidda handedly. At the Dragon there were so many matches that could have gone either way.So if your going to win state you have be able to put 5 wins in a row together, which most of these 38s haven't quite been able to do just yet.So on consistency alone for ranking purposes I still leave Vasquez 1 and Spahr 2. But i really think there is 10 kids on a given day could beat each other but can any of them put together 5 matches in a row? Just my opinion

Sparh seems to be peaking as does his teammate Yenter ,The tough Schedule helps although Sparh has been hurt and out some ,Seems Vasquez is a bit banged up as well

It's funny how that works him bumping up so much probably had some people worried but he seems to be doing just fine. Maybe could have a bit of an easier time at 38, but let's not discount AJ totally maybe he will pull out the one that matters most against Keegan come state. Lots of kids have done it before. Maybe just not #2 against #1.

The subject of Trent and Josh Johnson I know how much of an animal Josh Johnson is/was I had to wrestle him in my very first ever freestyle tournament lol. Back in like 06 or 07. I don't think I got thrown for 5 which in hindsight may be a small victory for me.

Counting someone out after a triple overtime loss would be nonsense. I am sure ready to see this match at state.

I think what he meant by there will be no talk about 113 120 and 220 is the fact that 120 and 220 have dominate wrestlers basically stating a fact that no one is beating Austin I don't think he meant anything negative

obviously he meant what he said ,that having classes dominated was bad for the sport or that having classes being talked about more because they were close in comp was better because they get talkef about more and for some reason he equates this to ky getting better ???? a total falasy as you could have 20 first yr wrestlers being close and getting talked about .

Me to..........

I simply adore your mascot
