Middle Schhol State

Topic ID: 11573 | 47 Posts

With the Middle School State tourney soon upon us let's talk about some of the potential match ups you would like to see. There are some really exciting young wrestlers in Middle school and the future of Kentucky wrestling looks very promising.

I am by no means thinking any of these matches are guaranteed, just some that I would like to see.

70-Grandstaff v Moore

80- Escelera v Anyone Just because this kid is a stud and so much fun to watch wrestle!!!

86- Brown v Mattingly

98- Wheeler v Deck

105- Insko v Yost

121- Brown v Ervin

I second 121 Brown versus Ervin. I can't wait to see that match!

Escelera v Grandstaff

Insko ... Yost part 2

Insko v Yost part 3

Both 130 and 140 are loaded. These brackets have 5-6 wrestlers who could all win it.

Weight classes with multiple hammers 105,,98,92,86 and all the young guns at 70. The talent level at these weight classes are impressive.

Absolutely gameface. I was very impressed with the top level (finalists) talent across the board last yr for KY MS, but the depth from 86 to 105 is amazing this yr. And so many of these kids are still relatively young.

And year in year out I always say we see some of the best pure wrestling at 70 and this year we have a full bracket of tough tough kids. No easy matches there.

Escelera Vs Grandstaff at 80. Hold on to your seats, this WILL be a great match. An early match up to watch will be Sebert Woodland Vs Wheeler EO at 98. This should be a quarter-final.

No doubt Seibert has been very impressive.  I watched him start to make his move around mid January last year.  He's been on fire since.  Very long kid with lightning quick speed.

Last year I think Seibert was a little overwhelmed at state. I think this year he will make some noise. The kid has been getting HS matches as well. He has a good little motor and is going to be a difficult out for anyone. I am also looking forward to Insko Vs Yost again. They had a great match at Woodford earlier this season, but both are great wrestlers. I know that Brown at 120 has been on top of his game all year. Question is, who has a shot at MOW?

I like Sebert he is a good kid. If he wrestles his match he could surprise some people against Wheeler. The 86, 92, and 98 bracket has favorites but there is kids in all of them that have the capability to have a good day of wrestling and take the bracket.

That's assuming a lot. There's a whole lot of wrestling that will have to take place before that match can happen. It's no cake walk into the finals and if either wrestlers believes otherwise they will soon find themselves on the other end of the bracket.

Very true!!! Can't look past anyone

REscalera you are right. But if those two are in the finals, I believe it will be a fun match.

I'm with ya!

Has anyone received a flier for state?

$12 for adults? That's absolutely ridiculous. Shame!

You should go to a weekly band competition. It's 12-15 every weekend.

That money pays for officials, facility, awards, and those fancy finals singlets.

I would say for a state tournament it's not to bad. Wait until you walk up to the horse park this year. I bet you say "that 12 bucks wasn't to bad"

I also forgot some of the money goes to pay ranger for his time.

Good luck to your team or wrestler this year. Should be a great state tournament as usual.

A small price to pay to hang out with Ranger all day

Our books are open to all of the coaches. Any coach who wants to share that information can show you that even charging $12 we barely break even on the event and some years we lose money. Getting a nice facility and running a quality tournament is not cheap.

The quality of the awards, the championship singlets, the awesome experience for our young athletes, the well ran tourney, great facility, incredible competition and match ups this year, I would gladly pay double. Can't wait!!!!

If you cannot pay the admission stay home.

^^^^^Classy zaniac. SMH. I don't believe that they said that they can't afford it, simply disagree with the price. If your going to have a crappy attitude, stay home.

i will go where ever I want whenever I like. Good attitude or crappy.

Cute. I would get into a battle of wits with you, but it would be like shooting fish in a barrel...too easy. Go to bed, get some rest, and try again tomorrow.

Iwin the problem is people struggle to communicate. Shame? That doesn't sit well with a lot of people and they tend to respond with a crappy attitude and I understand completely. We get a lot of critics on this site and very few people willing to step up and create solutions (I say create because I want to see more than words). Now a comment that the admission price is a bit high and to ask why is very reasonable. But to insinuate that I should be ashamed of that price is rediculous. In fact the association voted and that price was approved by a majority vote over a year ago. And again we aren't making any money at that price.

You know that I understand that Ranger. I have no problem with the price. I love the awards, medals, etc. And I understand that "shame" was probably a poor choice of words. But for someone to insinuate that someone else couldn't afford to go and shouldn't come to State because of a financial situation, that pisses me off. I'm not a bleeding heart liberal by any means, but I firmly believe that wrestling is one of the last blue collar sports, and if someone is having a rough time and needs assistance to come support their son/daughter, we as a wrestling family should help out in any way possible. I'm not in any way saying that this was what purpleandgold was implying, but I can be sympathetic to the gripe. To make a snooty comment like zaniac did was completely uncalled for. Good luck to all this weekend, even whoever you are supporting zaniac. If anyone is having any funding problems this weekend, feel free to PM me and I will help as much as I can in any way possible.

Nice...

Iwin, I would imagine that if someone has a child wrestling this weekend and there is financial hardship, that the school or coaches would help them out in that respect. I've seen in happen already this year. For a tournament of this size/quality twelve bucks isn't bad. And the awards are amazing for these kids.

Absolutely agree KY-79. We all just need to remember that what is a small amount for some may be a little tougher for others. Can't wait for this weekend, it's going to be a great time. Good luck to all.

OK, didn't mean to start a fire storm.  I can afford $12.  But when the family comes down to support my son, the cost adds up.  Adding it all up, it will cost close to $100 just to walk in the door.  And yes, I can afford that as well.  Sticker shock got to me, I guess.  Didn't mean to disrespect anyone.  Calm down, everyone.  I bet I'm not the only one who read the flyer and noticed the price.

You can say and do whatever you want. I will do the same.

Sounds like someone should have been present to vote in a family discount...or at least propose one.

Do you have to weigh in as a team or when you arrive?

Do you have to weigh in as a team or when you arrive?

The team weighs in together.  Coaches will receive a team pack with a weigh in sheet after paying the fees.  Hopefully most teams will be arriving together so it won't be that much of an issue.

Teams that go down the night before or Coaches that go Friday evening can go pay and get their packet then and be ready for weigh in the morning of.  If all team members are not staying the evening before I recommend having a set meet time for all parents 30 mins prior to what you really want them to meet you.  The earlier you weigh in the quicker it is and if you have kids waiting to eat breakfast this gives them plenty of time to eat.  Last 3 years I've checked our team in the evening before and then had all kids meet in hotel lobby with head coach and we drive them all over to weigh in for the earliest time.  Then we head them back to the hotel for breakfast and parents head back with us to the event.

Good insight bowlbear. We will be checking teams in Friday night as always. Come to the arena and get your packet and be ready early in the morning.

When do you think you will be back at the hotel ranger? Or how long will you be at the gym?

Never sure. Probably making the move from arena to hotel around 10. When I head back to the hotel I will be hanging out in the lobby.

Ok, I'm trying to catch "Fox Catcher" in Lexington(they aren't showing it in my little burg) on my way to Mt.Sterling. Hope it's good, anyone else seen it?

Great movie.

Yes, but sad, not a good movie to get fired up to wrestle.
