Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2015/2016 - PRESEASON JULY 10

Topic ID: 12070 | 60 Posts

Well, it has been a relatively quiet summer on this site, so let's see if we can get some 2015/16 talk going with some updated rankings.  Not a ton of weight updates, but the changes that are coming in are some big ones.  A few interesting notes to spark discussion:

- not sure how many of these kids will make it back to 106, but at this point it looks to be a pretty tough weight next season

- 132 is a hammer weight; Dutch and I went had a lot of discussion on the order at the top where we really have 1a/1b/1c, it basically came down to a seeding meeting discussion with a returning champ at the same weight, a multiple time champ coming up 2 weights, and another returning champ moving up one weight; Duncan wasn't a big 132 last season but I expect him to be a good size kid here next season; what can you say about Sheffer all he does is win; and the Birdman is a freak when he is on his A game; this could be a very interesting weight

- 220 is wide open with the departure of ATM

- I see Union and Trinity still in a dead heat; can Union pull out a few more high placers or can Trinity get some kids to grind out some consolation wins?  Or will a dark horse like Fern Creek surprise us all?  Will be interesting to see how it plays out?

I've heard a few rumors about transfers, but won't reflect that until school starts and things are confirmed.  I'm sure there are a ton more weight changes, but I can only reflect what I "know" so shoot me updates as you have them.

Thanks for the rankings ranger! I hear Derek Miller has moved to Florida.

Brandon Reed potential transfer to Trinity HS from Iroquois

If this is true then he would have to sit next year out correct?

Bonafide change of address?

Can you have a change of address to a private school? Both schools are in Jefferson County.  One part of Jefferson Co. schools other a private.

I would think with school not in session it wouldn't matter

I believe you can

I heard a unsubstantiated rumor about some kids transferring into Henry Clay that would instantly put them in top 5.  No, I will not repeat the rumor.

also heard rumor as well,We shall see. Henry clay will be tough reguardless.

hahaha no me and coach teater didn't tell each other the rumor, although I was curious if he had heard the same thing and now I know he did.  Could be HUGE for KY wrestling if its true.

great job on the rankings ranger and dutch.  always tough to project how big kids will be next winter.  You have Lucas Soard ranked twice.

WristControl, have these kids had a previous history in KY?

Justin torgerson will be at 132 as well, he wrestled up at 145 last year but he weighs 139 right now , he will be in the mix at 132

This is brandon, yea i am thinking of transferring. Its a huge possibility with my coach being gone and my training partner (Bilal Mamedov) possibly being out of next season for an injury he got during our rugby season. id love to practice with someone like frankrone everyday too. I was wondering how A.J binder and the kid from Desales did it, i mean switch schools and still wrestle the next season? anyone know

Brandon this is AJs dad.We moved from Oldham county to jefferson.I am sure there are other ways to change schools because even if i had not moved i would have faught the khsaa over him being ineligible because we left st.x because of the financial strain and it in no way can be a kids fault for that.but in your case the circumstances are different so be careful.

WristControl, have these kids had a previous history in KY?

heard it was the lawsons. But I've since saw on yappi that they are still in Ohio, around Columbus.

Yep. Heard the Lawsons are going to olentangy liberty in columbus

Back in 05 Jordan Lewis transfer from Ballard to X I believe (maybe Trinity) and was deemed ineligible by KHSAA his senior year.  He wanted to move because Ballard lost their coach.  He was a state champ his Soph year and 3rd his Jr. year.

If a coach leaves the program a kid should be able to transfer with no penalty.  Happened to me.  But my parents established a new address to make sure I could attend the school of my choice for one year. Not every kid has that option.

And yes the rumor was the Lawson's returning to KY, it came out of ETC's room. No idea how Henry Clay became the school of choice.  I don't buy the rumor's validity but it sounds like Ranger and coachteater think they will stay in OH.

Since grappler-of-old brings it up: what happened to Ballard?  They were pretty good for a bit in mid-2000's....do they have a program anymore?

As for transfers it depends on the district and how much they push it and how good the fake addresses are for the transferred kid we lost one last year that still lives in our school district. I wouldn't count on anything the kids from our school shouldn't have been allowed but was you just have to wait and see how the politics goes down. Its wrong but happens.

As always thanks for the guys time for doing this the kids always enjoy it I think.

I see Kitchen-Carter and Yost both making the list.  Even Lutes by mid season.

Yost is in there at 120

Woodford lower weights will really have to experiment with lineups to see what is best fit.  Very stacked from 132 down.  If Yost could get in lineup at 106 I could see him winning state. Very tough young wrestler.

Mikie Klein is pretty set on going 106

Great Job guys-I think you have it dead on at 138-TRENT JOHNSON #1 no doubt about it!!

I give AJ Bindner the nod at 138.  Though Trent is very very good and is capable of winning it.

I have both Binder and Duncan winning state next if they are at different weights. No way Johnson is above Binder.

Personally have witnessed these 2 go at etc. Bindner wins handily. But were talking about practice. Practice man whats practice -iverson

Bindner. Erdman. Duncan all win. Sheffer takes the l this year.

You can't live in western ky and get love unless your an Ervin lol

My personal opinion; Nate Wheeler will do better than 9th.

Well I will chime in since I already told Ranger my thoughts on his ranking at 138.Rankings are all based on past performence, they should not be who you think may or may not win.Last year I said Trent Johnson  was my sleeper at 138 and that was before he beat Vasquez. Then after he beat him  a lot of people were saying Trent should be ranked 1,and i disagreed. Rankings have to be determined by consistency of a wrestler and trent would turn around and lose to someone else so how do you jump him to number 1. You can't just base it on a couple of matches and say oh this guy should be number 1.Not one person on this forum would rank Aj above Bryce just bc Bryce has 2 state titles(even though Aj has won 3 out of 4 meetings.Bryce brought it at State and thats what people remember the most). You have to go by over all accomplishments and head to head so there is noway Leak or Johnson would be seated at a tournament higher that AJ.I am not saying they couldn't win but there is noway they should be ranked higher.Yes and rankings aren't that big of a deal until the local newspaper puts out articles(that kids and parents love to read),then they just dwell on who is ranked higher bc they only look at Rangers rankings.I have watched big articles writen about guys AJ beat but nothing said about him bc he was ranked lower.Aj has never finished any KY state(ele,ms,hs) lower than 3rd except when he got a concussion and couldn't finish. He has beaten rangers preseason rankings every year.So if were talking rankings he would be number 1 at 38 unless a state champ moves to that weight or he loses to some of the other guys. But hell i have to thank ranger again i thought he was fading away but you know the old saying about let sleeping dogs lie.I will say I could never do all the weight classes bc i don't watch them enough and ranger does a good job over all but he mised on 138(if them guys even go that weight).

Exactly. Leak caught a bit a fire at state. Does that mean hes better than aj? No way. Johnson got 4th. Whats the reasoning for ranking him 1? Its one weight class jump. Now that being said there is nothing saying those guys couldnt be beaten by each other. But you dont rank them how you THINK until it happens.

Leak definetly looked tough at state !!!

Leak definetly looked tough at state !!!

Agreed but not on the level of duncan or bindner.

132 will be fun if all 3 former state champs are going at it.

Angel would love to get a rematch with Duncan in finals for 138.

That could happen.

So they have wrestled before?

So they have wrestled before?

m.s. finals 2012. Lol

Agreed, I think wheeler will be a top 6. He's pretty rough and scrappy for his age!

I thought Iroquois dropped their program, leaving the kids with the opportunity to attend the school of their choice without worring about sitting out

No, they just lost the coach. They are looking to hire one.

Does dropping a program allow a kid to transfer schools without sitting out a year?

Ok I answered my own question.

I looked up the by laws and a kid may transfer schools if a school documents the removal of a program that a kid has participated in.

Am I missing something? I don't see Micah in the rankings.

Micah Ervin has grown a ton and I'm not sure where he fits in the lineup.

Micah Ervin has grown a ton and I'm not sure where he fits in the lineup.

That's a very good question!!! Where will Micah fit Union County's lineup !?!?!?.

KHSAA has Tim Pike for Union as a senior last year.  You have him listed as a senior in the coming season.

Yep. Already had a couple folks from Union mention that.

Austin Grant-Hall from Christian County is only a 7th grader.
