Sanders leads Breds at Duals

By Lee Kendall, sports writer

Junior Beau Sanders was a perfect 5-0, but Harrison County fell short in its pool and finished the day with a team mark of 2-3 at the Tates Creek Duals Saturday in Lexington.

Sanders won three of his four on-the-mat matches by falls, and benefited from a forfeit for his fifth win in the 10-team event.

Lexington area schools, including Harrison County, Dunbar, Montgomery County, Henry Clay and host Tates Creek, made up Pool A. Each of those schools wrestled against the five schools that made up Pool B.

Pool B consisted of Union County, North Hardin, Lawrence County, Conner and Campbell County. Union County and North Hardin both finished the day with unblemished 5-0 team wins.

As a team, Harrison County bested Lawrence County and Campbell County, was narrowly defeated by Conner and was soundly defeated by Union County and North Hardin, both ranked in the top 10 heading into the season. Harrison County is ranked No. 19 in the state, heading into the regular season.

Front-liners Josh Ashbrook, Trevor Maxwell, Bobby Barkley and Bryan Wasson did not compete on Saturday, but their replacements earned praise from Riegel.
