Fat Test

i think its stupid because the test aint the most accurate in the world and it limits teams and the growth of wrestlers because soem wrestlers have to wait to wrestle there desired weight
o and somethign i frogot this thing of them telling us how much we can lose in a week im sry i lose more than whet they say in a day so i mean
the poll question is not a yes or no question, so need to rephrase it. but it is not a good test and needs to be redone. it will be voted out after this year I am sure if it makes it all the way through to the end of the season, which i hope not.
my bad haha i thought it up and typed it out in like fifteen seconds but i fixed it
i think its rediculous how wrestlers dont even have to make base weight anymore, if you can't work hard enough to be at a weight all year then you dont deserve to compete their at state
The rules were put in place for a reason. The health of the wrestler.
These rules were implemented after years of kids harming their bodies and the final straw was in 1997 when 3 wrestlers died. 2 high school and 1 college wrestler passed away because of what they did to their bodies trying to lose weight. If you've been wrestling for a couple of seasons I'm sure you guys have seen (or heard stories) others do some pretty harsh things to lose weight, well, previous to the new rules it was 10 times worse. One good way to circumvent this issue would be to start thinking about weight class in September and not November.
By the way, I haven't always been happy with the rules either, these days everyone wants what they want right now and can't seem to wait, but they're in place for a reason. It is what it is.
yea without having to make base weight you might as well just change the weight classes to the post growth allowance. I think it should go back to how it used to be with no growth allowance. there is no need for it really, all it's doing is allowing someone who may not be able to get down to a lower class to reach it with the extra two pounds.
I was one of them previous to the new rules and I think the fat test and minimum allowances are good, but teams still cheat at them and get what they want out of it. It would be better to retest everyone a week before the regions to see what people are then compared to the beginning of the season. I would be willing to be tthat the numbers would not be the same. I agree the health of the wrestlers are the reasons the new rules were put in place, but it doesn't mean that they are the right rules....Last years were better than how they are now. Everyone is different and someone who just got done playing football last week would probably be able to lose some more weight in the first week or two of wrestling practice than someone who has been out for 6-7 weeks already. Also some guys who are 40% body fat now could conceivably easily lose more than 1.5% in a week too.
i busted my but to get down to weight before body fat, and it seems like cheating for the kids who are just weighting it out until the weight allowance, it makes me mad that they aren't working hard for what they want, i am sorry that they are lazy and I am not
Well they still won't be lazy to lose the weight, but it will make a difference if they can lose an extra two to three pounds to go from 130-125 or 140-135 etc. So they still also have to only lose a certain percentage of their weight each week, it just means it will be done slowly instead of aat the beginning of the season but not have to lose the extra two pounds for base weight.
If they run the b/f tests anything like they did at Fern Creek then that makes it even more of a joke. If this is goin' to dictate how and where people wrestle [weight wise] then they need to be more accurate. I had to weigh in with close on for a body fat test because there were women in the building. It said I had 19% b/f which is clearly much higher than what I have. And it said that our [quite squishy] 215 only had 15. If tests aren't goin' to be carried out about properly then they don't need to carry as much significance in the sport as they do.
Ridge, did you ever think you may have told him you were shorter than you actually were and the 215 might of said he was taller?
Height has ALOT to do with body fat.

But I think that somewhat goes to his point that we aren't being very exact in applying these rules. That is probably the fault of a lot of coaches who don't think about it until he gets the sheet of paper that says "John Doe" can only go down to 125.1. Then a week later the kid leaves practice weighing 120 pounds. Then they realize the height and amount of clothing worn for the test did matter.
Generally, this is a very good idea. Weight management programs are essential to the sport surviving. We couldn't expect growth (or even teams staying around) if kids die trying to lose weight.
The one drawback I see is the re-calabration of the wt. lose program (WLP).
example. If according to your "WLP" you can wiegh 126.2 on Sat. and 125.7 on Sun and you weigh in higher than 126.6 on Saturday that the WLP changes.
Lets say you weigh in at 128 on Sat. Now you can only weigh 127.2 on Sun. 126.8 on Mon ect. ect.
This could cause some big problems. Especially when you get a pound allowance at some tourneys because of teams wrestling the day before.

this is one point that I believe, if the people administering the test don't make sure they are accurate on the height than it will make a huge difference. If you just say someone is 2 inches less than it would be a large difference in body fat. I think it needs to be done by someone who is approved by khsaa and doesn't have any tie to the school.
thats what they did at knox we had some guy from vine grove do out body fat tests. he had no tie to our school. i guess he was just certified. but i think the rule has good intentions but it should be customized for each person like a hvywheight. or a 125 on what percentage the can lose in a week. and for all the wrestlers why dont you lose the weight before the body fat tests are done? it only makes sense to cut the weight you'll be wrestling at when the tests are done so theres not problems.

This would open another can of worms if they had to be KHSAA and not associated with the school. Trainers are usually not employed directly by the schools. The schools usually have a contract with a hospital or sports doctor and they send trainers to the schools.
1st you would be saying that the hospital or doctor are not professional enough to be objective.
2nd this would put another burden and cost on the schools to hire an outside person to administer the tests.
Many small schools and small wrestling teams are struggling with the skin fold as it is.
hahaha. Every time I check this topic I check the survey at the top. IT'S FIVE TO FIVE!!!!! WHAT A NAIL BITER!!!!!!!! lol
If your going to make a thread, use proper grammar, please. I'm sorry, but it's quite bothersome.
if the BF test were ,more accurate it would be a help because Ive done the hand held one then done the one u stand on with the exact same vitals different results and then the next day i got the pinch test yet again another result the only accurate way is the tank test and i think they should do a better job and give every school the exact same kind of test and measure the Heath of each wrestler and do it in an isolated place so we can do it like we are weighing in this might fix some problems and to the weight loss program i think it is good to think about the health of the wrestlers but they need to get to the school systems and get us healthier foods in school more fruits and stuff instead of the stuff they serve
