Region 4 middle school wrestling tournament rescheduled

Topic ID: 12571 | 41 Posts

Coaches The region 4 wrestling tournament has been moved once again to Sunday, Jan 31st, weigh ins starting at 10:00. The reason for the change is I have just herd from the officials and all three have prior engagement with either state duels or other tournaments going on across the area. I apologize but just like the snow this too is out of our control.

Since the Middle School state duals have been cancelled, shouldn't there be other officials available on Saturday? Did the assigner say no others were available or are you just going by the officials that were originally scheduled?

That's going to affect a lot of the kids that are supposed to be wrestling in the youth regionals in Anderson county on Sunday.  This is a horrible idea and should be worked on to get back on for Saturday

I was thinking the same thing as bearcat,  since there will be others available

This is ridiculous!!!

If Johnson can't host on Saturday, we need to consider changing venues. Sunday isn't a viable option.

And now you affect youth regionals that have all been rescheduled to that Sunday and numerous Middle Schoolers that need to attend and weigh-in in order to attend Youth State. I find it hard to believe there are absolutely no referees available to officiate on Saturday. Your decision here has negative secondary and tertiary order effects.

This is really going to be unfair to a lot of kids. My daughter is a single mother and with this change, she will have one child in Paintsville, and the other in Lawrenceburg. Could someone please explain to me how this is going to work? I'm sure she isn't the only parent that will have a problem with this.

This is really unfair to the kids & parents . My daughter wrestles for middle school & both my kids wrestle for youth . There's no possible way , with me being a single parent that I can have 1 child in Johnson County & the other child in Anderson County . There has got to be another solution .

Is another venue possible?  Anderson, maybe or Montgomery County possibly

so what do you guys plan on doing with your Youth Regional tournament?? Did you guys actually conduct this yesterday?

Keep it on Sunday. This allows some of the top wrestlers in our region to compete and represent Region 4 at state.  Otherwise they will go to high school duals

Great news!!!  No more changes allowed!

So what does this mean ? Still going 2 have it on Sunday regardless of all the youth wrestlers it's going 2 affect ?

Once again, I will remind parents just like I did with the snow, that change can be made, you just have to network. Having this tournament on Sunday is unacceptable. Honestly the NKY region should have been postponed until this weekend as well, but you can't undo the past. Back to the subject. Hosting this tournament on Sunday is not in the best interest of KENTUCKY WRESTLING as a whole. It is in the best interest of teams like the one that Dustoff represents. Dustoff's argument solidifies the exact reason why I believe that a kid no matter what age or grade needs to designate whether he/she is youth, middle, or high school, and not be eligible to wrestle all over the place.

Dust off, I don't believe there are any teams from our region going to high school duals. Most schools that qualified are choosing not to go because it is held in Union Co.

High school state duals are not being held  in Union County. Big school is at Ryle and small school at Lindsey Wilson.

Regardless if my daughter only wanted 2 do middle school , I'm a single mother & there's no possible way 4 me 2 be n Johnson County with her & Anderson County with my son both on the same day

We probably won't have school all this week. Will take until Sunday to clear. Plus refs are not going to drive from Lexington area to Paintsville to work. Let's not forget that is the real reason. If the original host school didn't back out then we wouldn't have this problem.

I'm sure that Anderson, Woodford, Elkhorn, or someone would be more than willing to step up and take the reigns here.

I believe Anderson county on Saturday is the best option. I have a youth wrestler and a middle school wrestler as well.

To late in the game to change locations.

Nah, it's never too late.

Same Day? The good middle school wrestlers are fine..The kids who won't make state and would benefit from youth state, now they won't have that option...Anyway to move the Youth Regionals to Saturday? Or something? Also parents will have to pick which kid to watch wrestle? Their middle school kid or youth? Either way there's gotta be a way to make this work out hopefully... Not sure who to ask? Or who could approve youth regional to Saturday?

It's not that big of a deal. They need to offer satellite weigh ins this year. If they do that you can weigh in pay your money and not show up.  Youth regionals does 2 things. Makes money for a team and gives everyone a count for state. It's not a qualifier!!!

Good luck

For us who travel long distances will result us getting home extremely late which means very tired kids on Monday for school. We are on the road for 3 hours there and 3 hours back plus being their all day long.

We've rented hotel rooms and had to change them already due to snow which is understandable but changing the day again and really not even giving notice may result in us not getting a refund. Who will be responsible for paying this? It's a hundred plus dollars and I'm sure I won't be the only angry parent if this happens.

No whining about traveling 3 hrs, there and back. Also about getting back late on sunday.

Every year it's the same thing all kids from Eastern Ky, to be able to compete at state, musthe travel 3 plus hours stay wrestle all day. Then travel back with school and work on Monday. So don't try and pull that sympathy card.

This year they travel 4 1/2 hours one way. Let's consider that.

Disn't the kswa give opportunity for others to host this tournament. And the school hosting is the only one to show interest? Until this point.

This would work.

This is wrong on so many levels I also have two wrestlers one is in 8th grade and one who is in 5th grade but wrestles both middle and youth

so my 5th grader cant be two two places at once and I cant either

for ky as a state and wrestling this is not good it could make kids chose and sffect numbers at one level someway youth or middle will have low numbers for state

dustoff I belive might just want less wrestlers to comptete against maybe raising his wrestlers chance it sounds like because we need to think about the future and moving ky in the right way for wrestling

Please consider that Johnson County is hosting regions only because no one in district 7 would or could !   It is not a money maker nor is it most convenient in anyone's schedule which we could not control due to weather.  So if you are displeased , please complain to your administration or coaches to step up and host it next yr.   Its a problem for everyone but youth region is just getting  entered into the state tournament .  Someone posted earlier its not a qualifier so send your roster and money your child will be entered for state.

As the host team, it is your responsibility to make sure you have the help you need. Not only from parents and wrestlers, but from the referees as well. If one ref or all 3 refs cancel, you find replacements. It's not like this happened the morning of regions, this happened a week before. There is plenty of time to find new officials. If Johnson County isn't capable of running this tournament, it really needs to be hosted by someone else.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about new officials or a change of location?

Wow you are so right!  My kid is 25-3 on the season and is the favorite to win state.  I sure hope no one shows up to wrestle him!  It is crazy people complain about selfish stuff.  I was simply stating that a previous posting said that state duels have been on the calendar for a very long time and changing our Region tourney to the same day hurts several kids.  The middle school tourney should go by quick.  Seeding is already done and you only have an 8 man bracket.  If it starts at 10 then we should be done no later than 2.  Then you can drive your 4 hours home and have little Johnny in bed at 6.

This should really help the youth wrestlers who show up early and watch the middle school tourney.  Just seeing what its like at the next level and the work they need to do to prepare.  Should be a very positive experience.

Why would you have to pay if your not got to wrestle?  All you need to do is weigh in.

Everybody relax, I think a solution has been achieved here.  A new thread will be started with details shortly.

Probably going to be reschedule to Friday now. Can't wait for more excuses!
