Coaches, Officials, Fans, and Wrestlers,

Enclosed is an official copy of House Joint Resolution 203 passed by the General Assembly this year for wrestling. Please look for ways to publicize this resolution among the sport of wrestling.

Below is a summary of the resolution:

A RESOLUTION encouraging Kentucky's public colleges and universities to include wrestling programs in their athletic offerings.

WHEREAS, wrestling is an individual as well as a team sport; and

WHEREAS, wrestling requires participants to possess both physical and intellectual skills; and

WHEREAS, wrestling is a relatively inexpensive sport; and

WHEREAS, numerous Kentucky high schools have instituted wrestling programs; and

WHEREAS, the National Collegiate Athletic Association has sanctioned wrestling as an intercollegiate sport; and

WHEREAS, currently no public college or university in Kentucky offers wrestling as an intercollegiate sport;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body expresses its concern over the lack of collegiate wrestling programs within the Commonwealth.

Section 2. This honorable body hereby encourages Kentucky's public colleges and universities to include wrestling programs in their athletic offerings

Which State School will be the first to add Wrestling?

WKY

EKU - (great candidate)

NKY

Murray

Morehead

UK - (ACC has wrestling why not SEC)

UL - (cant believe the Big East doesnt have wrestling)

KY State

Who have I missed?

Sounds like we have the politicians interested in supporting it now we need a State School to make it happen.

How do we go about this KDSMIth?

Should we now start a letter writing campaign?

In my opinion, this opens the door for us to lobby the Universities to follow thru with this proposal to start wrestling programs. I am waiting on further directions from State Representative Steve Riggs. He asked for me to spread the word. His email is

This is an encouraging step toward keeping wrestling alive. I hope UK & U of L will be the first. They are the highest profile schools in Kentucky. If they add wrestling, it will help the growth of wrestling in Kentucky. Also, I hope by UK & U of L adding wrestling this will encourage other NCAA schools to add wrestling.

Lets hope this also encourages more high schools to add wrestling programs
