I HATE THE NEW WEIGHT RULES!!!!!!!

Topic ID: 1280 | 21 Posts

This is total bull. I had to stay home from school today because I was sick. My mom is makin' me eat a whole bunch and won't let me run. I weigh about 152 right now and she makin' me eat dinner and drink a whole bunch of liquids. If I don't make weight at 45 tomorrow then I can't wrestle 45 Saturday at L.I.T. This is one of the most important tournaments to me and there are a lot of matches I was preparing for there. Only a week and a half into the season and already the stupid rule is screwin' me.

simple, don't weigh In.

Why would I not weigh-in. I want to wrestle. I'm wrestling up to 52. I would just weigh-in at 52 if it wasn't for the retarded weight rule.

If you don't weigh in they can't say anything about a previous weigh in, so you can just get to 45 over the next 3 days.

everyone hates the new weight rule cuz i kno ppl that want to drop a weight class and can do it healthy but they cant cuz hte new weight rules and crap i think its stupid

As a former wrestler, i know the new rule probably stinks. As a coach and wrestling advocate, it is the best thing for wrestlers. It keeps wrestlers healthy and safe which is what is important. It keeps athletes from cutting to much weight as well as keeps them from blowing up after weigh-ins. Believe me, i wrestled and it would be tough but now that I see the benefits of the plan, I can tell you it is for the safety and is in wrestling's best interest to clean up the whole "cutting weight" perception. Remember, the reason this was put into place is because wrestlers died a few years ago due to cutting to much weight.

well the whole thing is no matter what people are still gonna cut weight and even if the plan if safer for us  no one likes i don't know how many coaches like it and stuff but i think it sucks because it came down to the body fat test not every school does the same thing and not every test comes out the same so not every one gets the same results so one person that gets tested one way could have a different weight loss plan than if they did the body fat test a different way

Coming from a parent of a wrestler who has cut up to 40 lbs each year for the past 4 years, (except this year), I am in favor of the new rules.  Matt landed in the hospital two years in a row from the after effects of cutting weight.  He is wrestling light at 215, (which is much closer to his off season weight) this year and eating to his heart's content.  He may not go as far as he would've at a lighter weight, but he will be a whole lot happier and alive to tell about it.

cmccoy - Very well said.

ridge145 - this rule is very important for our sport because after years and years of wrestlers inventing new ways to cut weight the fast & unhealthy way....this sport has EARNED a very bad reputation.  I've been coaching youth & m.s. wrestling for a few years now, and i still get parents all the time asking "will my son HAVE to lose weight" or "will my son have to starve himself".  The new rules are there to protect wrestlers from making very bad choices and hurting themselves.  Look at your comment, you're mad because your mom is making you eat a whole bunch and drink lots of liquids.  (what is a whole bunch?  a turkey sandwich and a piece of fruit?)  You need to be eating and drinking!!  You're working out like crazy in wrestling.  You need to eat...and dehydration is very bad for you.

dusty sorry man the only thing i can say is just throw it up you mom wont know

we are wrestlers not cheer leaders plus forced regurgitation is worse for your body than not eating because it tears up the whole track

Wrestlers who use bulimia to cut weight are sad and pathetic. Not only does it hurt your body but it gives wrestling a terrible reputation. Please, don't let any of your wrestlers, team mates or friends develop such a repulsive eating disorder.

Dusty do what mom says.  I have always told you to go about things in a healthy manner.  DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE TADDS ADVICE.  I know you are smarter than that.  Your health is the most important thing.  We will talk at practice.  See you there.  Coach W

i agree makein yourself puke is stupid and harmful if u need to lose weight just work harder at practice and eat healthier eat in rations dont like eat to much eat jsut enought to fill you up and sit down cuz it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to send a signal to your brain that your full

dusty sorry man the only thing i can say is just throw it up you mom wont know

Not practical advice and very harmful to your health.

Eating disorders have one of the highest death rates of all mental illnesses. The Eating Disorders Association (UK) estimates a 10% mortality rate. An 18% mortality rate has been suggested for Anorexia Nervosa.[1] In addition to the risk of suicide,

I know. lol. I would never make myself throw up. That's about as low as it gets in my opinion. I would do most anything to make weight, just not that.

Hey maybe just shave your head, that might get you a half pound or a pound.  :-D

I just got a call from my coach who was at the seeding meeting for the Lonesome tomorrow and another coach pointed this out to him... he said I have to go 130 because at the body fat testing, I was 129.2 and 10% body fat, yielding a minimum weight of 125.03.  Three hundreths of a pound and I have to go 130???  Are you kidding me!?

Wow. That's pretty rediculous. Another thing about the weight rule is that there is absolutely, 100% final. Not even a little bit of room. I mean come one, 3 hundredth of a pound.

Well after christmas you will be able to get to the new 125, with the growth pounds of 127....so just think of it as harder practice until then.

You're right... scratch weight does change after x-mas.  So I should be okay then...

As an aside, 129.2 has four significant digits while 125.03 has five.  You can't add significant figures... it should be just 125.0.  So much for science.
