Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2016/2017 - DECEMBER 13

Topic ID: 13283 | 43 Posts

Finally recovering from lots of travel and wrestling and able to post an update.  We still have some fat test results to review and some results to consider from the first couple weeks, so look for multiple updates over the next few weeks.

Team - with the addition of Bacon and Woodford losing a couple kids, Union has a little breathing room at the top with Woodford/St X/Johnson in a pack battling for the runner-up spot.

106 - while there is some young talent here, this group is nowhere near as deep as what we saw last season; a few podium spots up for grabs right now; Knight was heavy when I saw him 2 weeks ago so I have pulled him off until we know where he is going; Zeke my clear favorite at this point, but Deck is very good too.

113 - starting to look like a fairly tough weight at the top; I see 4-5 kids with a shot to win this weight.

120 - added Bacon and Jordan Bates, both look to be competing for a podium spot; good deep weight; Wells is the favorite, but Bacon proved this might be open to a number of kids.

126 - Deck looking solid jumping to #5; need to see where Yost/Tucker settle before we know how this will play out.

132 - wide open after Saul

138 - wide open after the top few kids; obviously Sheffer is the man here

145 - great weight, excited to see this play out; Johnson taking control early in the season

152 - another good weight with great talent at the top; Zane with 2 wins over Smallwood has established himself as the top guy for now.

160 - still some moving parts here; Smith the man on top

170 - Casey is a strong favorite, but who knows where the Johnson kids will be (assume fat test will be posted soon)

182 - Andreoni looks strong with a couple tough competitors

195 - If Irving isn't 100%, this could be WIDE OPEN

220 - without Reed, Orr could run away here

285 - this could be a solid group and potentially challenge Jones

Per the Region 1 Rankings thread, Chance Orr is not wrestling this year to focus on academics.

Was this a recent decision?  Because he did a fat test. I'll stick with what I have until I get better info.

a lot of kids ranked in weights they're not wrestling in

Looks like Blake Evans had a big win over the 3rd ranked Wyatt from Bourbon co at derby city classic

Heard Chase Blanton has 5 pins in 6 matches and beat a ranked kid from Scott in his first tournament. Even though he's 15 in the rankings right now, I think he'll move up to be top 5 and give Andreoni a match

Chase B is also undefeated this season with an 8-0 record and dominating this season so far

Yes you are correct. A good percentage of the kids in the state drop a weight from the first few events of the season. Kids also wrestle up in duals or while their lineup is filling out. I would guess half the kids in the state have wrestled more than one weight class already. Point being this is our best guess where kids will end up. As much as we try to reach out to coaches or even some kids and parents we don't have a clue what most kids plan to do. All we can do is guess based off results and body fat tests.

I will add...

if you have knowledge of something that is not accurate then please share that info with us. We always welcome input. Prefer it to be correct info, but always open to more info.

Adam Ogaz from apollo looked really solid at Derby City until he wrestled Mays. Seems like he could be a tough competitor in that weight.

Just from what I've been hearing:

Matt Steven (Larue Co) is 195 this year and is not planning on cutting to 182

Raymond Williams (North Hardin) is wrestling 182, with a plan to move up to 195 this year - not 170

Jackson Grimsley (Taylor County) is ranked at 132, but will be 126

I believe I've seen Gray from Caldwell Co make weight and wrestle at 160 already this year, not 170.

I was also told at Oldham County Superduals that Ogaz from Apollo (who looks good, by the way) will be dropping to 160.

Insko from Apollo may be going 120 as well.

Again, who really knows what's going to happen, but this is information I've heard, so far, so take it for what it's worth haha

Clayton hanson?

Thanks for stopping by, Chase.

You have Eli Daviau of Boyd County #6 at 170 but he is undefeated at 182 and will remain in the weight class for the year.

Its way to early for another rankings to come out, there are alot of kids undefeated at this point becuse they have really not been able to wrestle any true competition. The next 2 weeks will really say alot about who is who in each weight class

Chase fink from anderson county in the 138 beats out teammate andrew lykens for the 138 every week for the starting spot.

Peter Mark has been wrestling at 126 and will drop to 120 after Christmas.

DeVonta Turner from Trigg has been wrestling 120

Fink wins 1st at 5 star classic in Lafayette.  138 lb

Pretty dumb that someone would downvote that comment

Also Max Powell is ineligible for transferring to Fairdale.

Dang Jessamine need to step up, no kids ranked...I'm new to wrestling, kids first year, how does empty ranking spots get filled?

They're only in their second year as a program, and changed coaches last year to this year.  I'd give them a couple of years before criticizing their absence in the rankings.  West Jessamine looks to be developing a solid foundation though.

Not criticizing, my son wrestles for East...I was just saying our boys need to push and get on that list.

Off-season training is where champions are made.  Practice at least two days per week, go to some off-season tournaments, and two camps over the summer.  You'll be amazed in the difference it will make.

Yeah he is loving it so I guess dad will be dumping money this summer lol. By the way congrats on your 1000th Post!! Haha

300 hundred pushups 300 hundred set ups lunges and pullovers with 30 lb rocks bear crawls backwards up hills forwards down .Every day Drill before school and after .practice then lift .

Funny thing is you think I'm joking .

Just checking to see if these are the official rankings. Logan Johnson 285 Montgomery County is ranked 14th has finished 1st or 2nd in every tournament he's entered this year. Only loses have been to Justice from Madison County twice, but has beat #4 and others that are ranked ahead of him. I'm not concerned at this time but this will effect seeding at state tournament. Thanks for any information given on this process.

State tournament is seeded based on regional place not state rankings.....

The best part of being unranked or "low" ranked.....they never see you coming! Once you are no longer a secret, you become the target. Be careful what you wish for!

Yep

And really to an extent it is completely random draw based on the regional results. No seeding meetings involved at all.

As others have said, rankings have zero effect on seeding at region or state.  Head to head and overall record mostly determine region seeding, and state is a blind draw.  Rankings are fun to look at and talk about...nothing more.

We are just getting into the heart of the season.  As they wrestle more matches the rankings will look different later in the season.  Don't take the rankings to heart.  They are for fun and prompt discussion.

Geordon Blanton is planning on going 160 in January.

Woodford beat Madison Central tonight in a very close dual 37-34. Wyatt Andreoni looked incredible tonight. Congrats to both teams for a nail biting match from beginning to end

120 and 126 are crazy this year. They all keep moving around and beating each other. Gonna be exciting to watch at state!

Going to get exciting at regional in some cases .

Ryan McManus from Madison Central has dropped to 145 for the remainder of the year.  Had a strong showing at the TCI yesterday.

thanks for keeping us updated

When will new rankings be out?

ranger bradlee vidit from nelson co only has one loss at 120 and it was a dog fight at the bruin dules  and there 138 jacoby has not been beat and Thomas nelson 152 has not been beat at 152 coret ashbaugh but they are not on your rankings just wondering you do a great job doing these what made me ask was I saw the boy from central was on the 120 weight and bradlee was not

Doing a bit of research for Ranger since I'm just waiting at the hotel for Scuffle to start tomorrow, putting off updating my rankings.

Vidit has more than one loss per trackwrestling having lost to Parker from Western Hills (UR), Crouch from Central Hardin (UR), Wooten from Fort Knox (UR), and Gay from Danville (23rd). I think you made the mistake here of seeing "Central" and assuming it was Crouch from Central Hardin (It's Calloway from Louisville Central). Louisville Central High School and Central Hardin High School are two storied and successful programs but are two different high schools. I remember back in the day my dad would mix up Campbell County and Fort Campbell when looking at rankings, it's a pretty common thing.

Per trackwrestling Robertson has lost to Starcher of Pike County Central (UR), Peyton from Western Hills (UR), and Galusha from Scott County (UR).

Ashbaugh is undefeated per track but has no wins over any ranked opponents

Records can be deceiving thus they are one of the last things we use for rankings
