Why the lack of Freestyle in kentucky??

For years our coaches were not comfortable with teaching anything but Folkstyle. Most refused to learn let alone teaching it to their kids. But with the turnover of these coaches and getting a shot in the arm with transfers and college kids giving back to the Wrestling community, we are making the change needed. As with all good things it takes time. You should have seen Kentucky 10+ years ago!! We are growing Slowly..... but positively forward.
There was a good turn for the freestyle tournaments and clinics this year. This is the style for females in college.
The resistance to freestyle is sad because it expands a wrestler's arsenal with techniques that can be adapted to folkstyle. Plus college coaches use Fargo as the ultimate measuring stick. I wish I had wrestled more freestyle when I was competing.
