Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2017/2018 PRESEASON - November 7

Topic ID: 14069 | 54 Posts

One last "preseason" set of rankings before we all hit the mats in a couple weeks.  Also, over the next few weeks we should see a lot of body fat results get posted.  Once we get to the first week of December we will have a better idea how this might all shake out.

Rankings_17_18_1107.pdf

Love the new rankings!! Always exciting.

Storck will wrestle at 120 this season. Sorry to shake up the rankings again! But whoa 7th at 126??? Pretty sure he's beaten the majority of those kids ranked above him there if not all of them. But hey,  you have your agenda! Watch for him in the finals at State. And thank you for your hard work! Let the comments begin haha

Have you been drinking?  Not sure what you are talking about agenda. If it is such a slouch weight then why cut down to 120?

Maybe he's cutting for the team? Who knows this is a comment board lol. Got touchy over the pre season ranking critique. He even got 2 down votes for trying to spice up the board. Jesus RANKINGS USUALLY INVOKE DISCUSSION, DEBATE, DISAGREEMENT.

It be cool if he responded with facts why he ranked where he is or a better retort than are you drinking.

I believe Ranger was responding to the "you have your agenda" comment. Don't think it was him getting touchy over a critique. These guys doing rankings put a lot, I mean a lot of time into this. Then for them to have someone say they have an agenda for them ranking a certain kid in a certain place is pretty disrespectful. I know Ranger a little bit and I don't think he would have an agenda with anyone when he does his rankings. Rankings are just a few people's opinions. If you don't like those opinions go out in the mat and change them. Good luck to all young mean this year and God bless.

How about this off the top of my head.

His kid has finished with 3 losses at state the last couple years. I don't see any wins over the guys above him last season. Two of those kids were state finalists, a couple 3-5.

Bluesdad hit the nail on the head. Simply state that kid A beat kid B at event C. I've always welcomed that feedback. Claiming some agenda just shows sour grapes about the rankings.

Ranger,

You shouldn't have to explain yourself. You do us, KY Wrestling a great service by taking your personal time do post rankings. Also, you do your homework before putting rankings out. If people want to know why a kid is ranked where you position them, they should do their homework for themselves. Furthermore, this is a simple fix, if someone doesn't like their position then do something about it. In other words, BEAT SOMEBODY!!!...

Thanks. Yes, if they don't like it, they can fix it on the mat. BUT we can definitely miss results. We are far from perfect. So come back at us with facts not false claims.

I have a feeling we will be surprised after the first weekend of competition. I’ve talked to a few kids who have hit 25-30 pound growth spurts. Sounds like steak and steroids seems to have been the off season diet for some. Haha

I appreciate the rankings. Might provide some with motivation.  Should be a fun year.

I'm sure there will be a ton of updates in 3 weeks. So many of these kids are off the radar in the off season so we have no clue about growth. I don't try to guess so I generally leave them where they were until I get solid info. Fat tests are coming in now so we get a little insight on growth there.

Just stirring the pot!!! It's all good, man. Being off the radar is good thing.  Being highly ranked gives kids false confidence since they're so hung up on rankings, anyway. It's just sad that some kids don't get the respect they've earned. As a parent, I'm gonna call BS when I see something that's questionable.  Who'd have thought Storck would wrestle a now 6 time super 32 champ/top 5 kid (nationally) in the second round at Super 32! Tough draw! But funny we didn't see any of those kids wrestling there that are ranked above him. Just my 2 cents!!  And If you don't think I'm entitled my opinion then this isn't a forum of discussion - just turn off comments. So to address the guy that says A beat B... Storck beat Miller at State, Storck beats Lampe hands down, and I'm too busy to look at the rest but I'm sure there's more guys up there in front of him he's beaten. You bored fact checkers can look into that. See y'all soon! Thanks again for your time and effort.

I think I have the Millers confused... they're twins after all! Even though they were old teammates I still get them confused lol

In the end I guess the lesson is don't let rankings get in your head.

What happened with Kestin Mcclain and Tristen Spaulding?

Yes wrong Miller. And storck beats lampe hands down from dad doesn't give me anything to rank on. Lampe was 5th at 126 with a win over a defending state champ. Storck was 6th at 120. Nothing there says hands down better to me.

As for for this being a discussion forum, yes it is. But when you claim I have an agenda apparently against your kid I will come back on that.

Meanwhile, I've received a couple messages from others during this discussion regarding real matchups that could impact rankings.

Spalding found his love for food and is resting at 145 for now.

See it now. Kids grow. Lol.

I guess you never learned what assume meant (<you make an> ass <outta> u <and> me)  First you assumed Storck was going 26 after you just saw him in NC at 120.  Doesn't make sense why you'd put him in a different class - to me, anyway. You also assumed I was talking about an agenda against Storck? Why would you? Our kids are in different weight classes...  The agenda I'm referring to is getting rankings out with not much to go on until weight assessments. Maybe I used the term incorrectly in this case. Goal might have been better.

And being of average intelligence I guess you thought I'd miss the potshot about the "real matchups" as if Storck couldn't be in one. Real classy. I'll go on and predict the finals at 120 will be Storck and Cagen Wallace, another fine young man whose father I actually like. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my crow. If it comes to fruition it'll be a hell of a match not to mention a real matchup.

I will start with where we agree. Yes Chad Wallace is a great guy. Easy to root for him and his kids. And yes agenda probably wasn't the best word to use there. And actually I agree storck is the #2 at 120 if I rank him there.

Where we will disagree...

if you look closely I have every kid who competed at super 32 ranked at a higher weight. In general kids have wrestled at a lower weight down there with the night before weigh-in and it being October vs knowing you have a 2 day state weigh-in in February for state. As for your assumed potshot had nothing to do with your kid. I was referring to some changes at heavyweight where a coach sent me some head to heads that I may have missed. Not your assumptions against lampe or reference to the wrong Miller.

Is Campbell County under going this major of a rebuild? Ranked in the 60's?

They just graduated a big group of experienced kids and have a sizable gap in numbers and talent to what we have seen in the past. They have a few kids with the ability to make some noise, especially in the upper weights (plus Tom KC).

What is Tyler's biggest win from last year?

Sam Bacon beat Roth during the season losing to him at state.

Tyler certainly deserves his recognition and I've been guilty of being a homer in the past but I'd have to disagree with Ranger and put Bacon at 2nd and Storck at 3rd unless he has a better win.

That makes sense. Hopefully they continue to build well through youth and have some potential talented first time wrestlers joining as under classmen.

I do not believe he should be ranked 2nd at 120 either. Who at that weight has Tyler beat?? You cant just rank someone just because you think they should be there. It's about who actually has won matches. Ranger has done these for many years now and is very well at what he does. I've known him for a very long time and do know that he is not bias at all. He picks no favorites, all he knows is cold hard facts. If you don't have facts then you cant argue with him...

**sound** ding ding ding...

**announcer's voice** Round #2 is under way folks!

:D

OK first post and this is what we get?

I'm all for stirring the pot, but seems to me someone is trying to get someone fired up.

As a very very old fish in the pond, don't bite young fish there is a hook attached. :lol:B)

This is almost an actual discussion lol

Our team has some ranked kids, but none of them are ranked in the weights they’ll wrestle this year....and that’s okay. Rankings are great for discussion, but I think we will get a better idea where kids will be after the first few weeks of the season.  Remember when Florida State was ranked #2 this year? They’re currently boasting a 3-6 record. So, it should be interesting.

I wonder if Gideon Adams will break in the lineup this year for Union or even Stephen Little.

Gideon in the line up at 126 would seem to make sense unless the lineup shifts down

Russellburg will be the 126 unless the lineup shifts up. Little should be at 152.

Easy Tiger!!  Its a little early in the season to get so fired up.  I find it funny that you are getting so upset about pre-season rankings.  Tyler has been wrestling for a long time and he is a good wrestler.  I have no doubt that he will make a run at a State Title this year.  However, I would be careful writing checks for your son that he will have to cash.  You basically guaranteed in two separate post that he will be in the finals.  That is probably putting unnecessary pressure on Tyler going into the season.  I would much rather see Tyler on here making this statement than his dad.  After all Tyler is the one wrestling.

You and I have been in a lot of wrestling rooms and tournaments together for years and this seems a little out of character for you.  As you know, My son Mason does pretty well on the mat.  You would never see my get on a wrestling website and talk how my kid is going to walk to the finals and basically beat all the kids in his weight class.  I don't know what State Tournament you have been going to but, those state titles are hard to come by.  Hopefully, Mason gets one this year but, you would never hear me predict that.

I'm also trying to figure out your post about going to a National Tournament.

Who'd have thought Storck would wrestle a now 6 time super 32 champ/top 5 kid (nationally) in the second round at Super 32! Tough draw! But funny we didn't see any of those kids wrestling there that are ranked above him. Just my 2 cents!!

How did that tournament work out for him?  The last tournament Mason attended was Flo Nationals and he had Sammy Sasso first match.  Sasso happens to be a #1 ranked national wrestler.  Mason got his butt kicked.  However, Mason bounced back and won 6 matches in a row to take 4th.  3 of those wins were over top 20 nationally ranked wrestlers.  I can tell you as a dad, I have never been prouder of Mason and his performance on the mat.  You did not see me get on KY Wrestling and go on and on about how tough my kid is and who he is going to beat this year.  I also did not call out every wrestler in KY that did not attend Flo Nationals.  There have been plenty of times people have picked Mason to lose and sometimes he does.   My guess is they will do the same thing at some point this year.  That is how it works.  This doesn't mean they have an agenda or they think Mason is a bad kid.   They just think another kid is better than Mason.  Not a big deal unless you make it one.

Now on to your comment about your "Bored Fact Checkers".  Considering I help Ranger follow results thru the year, I take a little offense to your comment.  You can't even imagine the hours that go into doing the rankings.  I assure you it is not an easy job.  I will tell you that there is no agenda in regards to Tyler.  I think he is a tough, physical wrestler.  However, your recent rants are making it difficult to root for him.  You are very proud of Tyler and I understand why.  I am also a father and I am my son's biggest fan.  I know this is a tough and demanding sport for the wrestler and the entire family.  We all devote a lot of time putting our kids in a position to be successful on the mat and in life.

I'm sure you understand the phrase "living vicariously".  I think this applies in this situation.  You should take a step back and let Tyler prove what ever he feels he needs to on the mat.  You don't need to tell us how great he is. I assure you that he will do just fine, if he just wrestles.    The results will say more than anything you could type.  If you just let him wrestle, you won't have to make excuses every time he happens to take a loss.

Tell Tyler good luck this season and go get that title.

Which 3 wins were over top 20 nationally ranked wrestlers?  Just because they're ranked today doesn't make them wins over top 20 ranked wrestlers if they weren't ranked when he beat them.  If they're ranked today and not when he beat them it means, in the eyes of those making the rankings, that they've made better gains since losing to him than he has.  Maybe because one AA at Fargo and another AA at UWW.  However, I've yet to find the 3rd ranked wrestler you speak of.

Most jumping this board has been in a years. Different parents take different routes. Some like to be front line some like to linger in the back.

I'm just glad that parents are this fired up pre season. I wish my wrestlers were.

Why aren’t the twins from Walton Verona ranked? They were studs in middle school and should be freshman this year. Did they move?

I would have to go back to the brackets to find the third, but off the top of my head I know Justin McCoy and Kasper McIntosh. Could have been a senior who was removed after graduating.

I see where McIntosh and McCoy are ranked today.  I just couldn't find them on Flo rankings when the tournament took place.  If I've overlooked them please let me know.  If not then I'm claiming alternate facts. Hehe!!!  Which means he didn't have any wins over any ranked guys and his dad is on here stretching the truth a bit.  Which is fine under most circumstances.  Just not when one is lecturing another dad about letting his son's wrestling do the talking.

Next week is the beginning of the greatest season on Earth.

This will really start the rankings talk.

We will start to see the some match ups. What are some of the potential match ups the 1st week?

A few of the middle school state hammers aren't ranked just yet or are ranked low. TKC, Grant-Hall, Russellburg, Little, Slayton, Peace, Tomerlin, and the twins will be moving up the list once they start the season.

Huh?  I'm a bit confused but it's not that hard for me to get there so take it easy on me. I don't recall saying that I didn't know who Busiello is.  He's a very hot commodity in the wrestling world. As for my son, thanks but it's not accurate.  He's going to start the season out at 120, which means unranked, which also means absolutely nothing.  I like PDIII's thoughts on rankings.

 Be Savage!!!!Screenshot_20171118-215239.jpg

Ranger dedicates a lot of time into this.  The wrestlers that I used to coach would complain...My response to them was simple.  If you keep pinning everybody that steps on the mat with you, then rankings don't matter.  Let's face it....Rankings are fun to read and dream about who should be where and such.

Something that people need to understand.  Trackwrestling.com is dependent on the coaches to enter the wins and losses of their wrestlers.  Some coaches are better at entering in the information than other coaches.  I have overheard more than one coach at different venues state that they only enter wins for their particular wrestlers, and that they do not enter losses.

That being said.  Most win-loss records are not as accurate as they are recorded.

My true opinion of the rankings are that they are good for the coaches.  It allows them to see who is the tougher wrestlers and can set their schedule accordingly.  They can set their schedule to the level that is needed for their team.

Coaches can look at past participants of a tournament and decide if their team can compete or if the competition is not to their needed level.

In Missouri now, trackwrestling is mandatory for all teams. You have to put in all events for your wrestlers. Seeding criteria at district is based upon the criteria built into track. Of course, coaches double check them but for the most part they are exact in their breakdowns. If you do not put in your wrestlers matches your school is fined and coach is penalized. Think this would help Ranger and the stat guys out on their ranking system.

It would. It seems that Indiana doesn't use track so much. Matches in Indiana usually don't show up.
