Will Austin be wrestling on 1/11 against Buffalo? Jake Gunning is ranked 20th, and in my opinion, is a very winnable match. If Austin does wrestle, he'll have another top 20 opponent two days later against Eastern Michigan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Austin beat Hutchinson (EMU) last year?  Could be a great opportunity to get some quality wins before NCAAs.

The remaining MAC portion of the schedule is very doable. I believe Myers has wins over almost all remaining opponents. 6-1 at least in next 7 matches would be my guess. That should have him in good position heading into MAC tourney and NCAAs. 

Seriously, does anyone know the status of ATM?  He has not been in Missouri's lineup and I have not seen any news explaining why.  He seemed to be adjusting to the D1 heavyweight intensity and wrestling well.  Anyone know why he is not in the lineup?

Article from last Friday makes it sounds like Mizzou just isn't sure who their starting HWT is right now:

"In the heavyweight match, the Tigers continued on the heavyweight carousel that has been the story of the 2017-18 season. In Thursday's dual, it was Dante Jiovenetta who got the green light from Smith. Unfortunately, the redshirt freshman out of Florida couldn't get the victory, as he lost by decision in his seventh match of the season.

Smith appears to be still searching for consistency n the heavyweight slot. Throughout this season, the Tigers have thrown several wrestlers onto the mat in the heavyweight spot, including Rodrigo Diaz and Austin Myers. They sent out RS Frsh Bohlken on Saturday and he only lost 3-2 to the #17 ranked Eastern Michigan Heavy.

They do have an absolute animal coming in next year, Zach Elam. Two Time state Champ, Fargo Champ, and he starts both ways (TE, DE) on the football team with multiple D1 offers.

I assumed it was eligibility too.  Rooting for him to make it back in lineup.  Kid has worked really hard and I'd hate to see it end like this.

Must be quite the issue. The Flo guys were concerned about saying anything on their radio show, didn’t want to get sued. You can check it on their site. As a team, even before the issue Missouri was solid at all but 125 and HWT. They have had a number of heavies in the room the past few yrs, but none seem ready to make the leap. It has been suggested on TheMat that Missouri ought to bump up one of the 97s. Worth a shot in my book. MAC is not good at HWT. Maybe a 97 could actually win a match at NCAAs.

Campbell County was winning state titles long before anybody knew who you were. They will be winning them long after your kids aw retired. Probably shouldn't sling shit at the only place that was able to tolerate you. I agree with Lionheart. I think the 3rd place as a frosh d1 Ohio was the greatest accomplishment the Myers boys had, then the sophomore championship by Stephen.

I would rank Stephans 2nd place finish as a senior up there as well. Clearly was struggling, hurt and wrestled up a weight class. Stud.

All I would like to know is what happened to Austin.  He is ultimately a great young man.  Why drag him thru the mud?  I know very few people who would do the things he has done for his friends and acquaintances.  Very polite to his peers and while in High School in Ky never had a bad reputation in school or out.   

I hope that whatever has happened he can fix the problem.  Being a successful young man with much hype wold make it easy to fall into a bad situation.  Everyone is out to knock a person like this down a step or two. Please remember this is a young man's life we are talking about on here.  Wish him success and if you can't then keep it to yourself.  

I don't think anyone who is posting on here has one problem with Austin himself.  Regardless of his success, or if his success is ended on the mat, he is still a great human being who will, like everyone else, make a mistake or two along the way.

Seriously why has a simple post about some wrestling replacements turned into a name calling argument? We are all supposed to be adults and setting a good example for our young wrestlers,some of which read this forum. What kind of example are we setting? I personally feel that this discussion has gone way of track. Stop the bickering and name calling on an open forum, go private with it. We have had enough of this negative crap the last several weeks and it is giving the kids a bad view of our sport, which we all are supposed love. I want our sport vto thrive in Kentucky but when the adults leading the way start acting worse than the youths we lead then we  are not going to thrive. IMHO.

Been involved with the CC program since I moved here and like to think that I know most things that go on with the program. Would love to know what former coaches kid was babied that cost them a state title.

What I really want to know is how they were eligible that year since they started at a different school?

My kid was ineligible for KHSAA sports due to receiving an academic merit based scholarship to attend his high school. Seems as if KHSAA picks and chooses the rules they enforce.

I rarely like getting involved with these types of conversations but I am sure you had a lot to do with your kids success.  Much like all parents have something to do with their kids success.  I know from talking to people that you are great in the weight room and able to help anyone who wants it.  

BUT

You are comparing yourself to one of the greatest coaches in KY history.  Coach B is able to take everyone, even those that are not as motivated as yours were/are and make them into winners.  That is the true gauge of a great coach.  HIgh School coaches have to take all that show up in their room, they cannot pick and choose. Getting kids motivated is the hardest part of a coaches job.  I would guess that most high school coaches would tell you that their greatest success is with someone who was not a state champion, but a kid that came with no athletic ability, or motivation and made them into a 500+ winner.

I am not doubting weather you can or cannot do this, I truly don't know, until the proof is there.  

There may be a few that are rooting against your boys but I can tell you this.  The vast majority are rooting for their success.  Which is why so many are concerned with Austins situation right now.  They want to see him on the mat doing what he does best.  Getting a "W" with conviction.

Folks. Let's get back to talking about all Austin's historic  wins in College. Currently 11-6 and really peaking.

This year he has that huge win over number 51 ranked Marcus Harrington , Standfords back up, Utah valleys backup, Iowa States back, 2 NAIA wrestlers and 2 D2 kids. 

Lol did one tournament and finished second ..beat the fargo champ from his jr yr when he got robbed from going to finals you remeber ....when you knocked him .and you wrestle whos in front of you ...well a wrestler  does YOU dont do $hit 

For the answers to why ATM is not wrestling right now, if he will come back this year, or if he will wrestle again for Mizzou we will have to rely on the Missouri Wrestling Forum.  It will be interesting to see how that works out.

By the way, Mizzou has recruited two highly ranked big men out of Missouri.  They may be a couple of years away, but it looks like Mizzou is recruiting for the slot.

Elam is a total beast, but is a year away. He is the new style of HWT, incredibly athletic without all the bulk. The days of two dancing bears at HWT are over. Demetrius Thomas is a monster at Williams Baptist. He is a homegrown talent. There is chatter of him coming. He would start immediately and would have an outside shot at AA this year.

I checked their forum, pretty nice. There has been very little chatter about him all year. I think they have moved on (at least the forumites have). There does seem to be excitement regarding Elam. The team is stacked everywhere but 125 and HWT. I follow from a distance as they have Assad on the team, an OH kid from Brecksville. I had hoped he would break through at 125 with McGee's struggles there, but it hasn't happened. Another OH boy, Alan Hart from St Edward is there. He may figure into the mix at some point. Stuck behind Eierman for now though.

I agree on both points.  Elam is a total beast.  And it also looks like Mizzou is now getting some of the D1 Missouri talent (CBC).  Don't see any of the Park Hill kids, but I agree on your point about the big guys.  "Dancing Bears" made me laugh.  But heck, I saw Chris Taylor wrestle at the Big Eight Tournament in 1970 (doesn't that date me?).

Missouri is always excited over Missouri kids as they should be !! to bad KY is less honorable but I guese a record of failure leaves one less than excited over future prospects ,Austin just got his scholarship INCREASED lmao and while there may be excitement over a fargo and 2x state champ I wouldnt count on anyone taking Austins spot when he returns even with the home state bias.

Last yr the talk was Ohio state Champ Campbell was the new thing and well ...

Nearing the end of his third year of college wrestling after being a 19 year old high school student. Hasn’t accomplished much.  Kentucky just didn’t prepare him well I guess.  Probably shouldn’t have ducked Ohio.  He may have been able to pick up a Division III Title along the way.

He wrestled at Clemson for Gil Sanchez before they cancelled their program. I think he was at Missouri for a year before but he won his national titles at Clemson. We wrestled them every year when I was at The Citadel. They had a top 10-15 program.

Wrestlee of the tourney has to be Kyle Conel from Kent State. Dude is really good and has won many matches. He has to be the favorite next year at 197. Kollin Moore needs to become more dynamic.

KeShawn Hayes missing AA by an overtime loss, Moore getting pinned, and, of course, NATO getting decked sealed the deal for the team race. Proud of the Bucks with 8 All Americans. It wouldn’t have been close had Suriano stayed at Penn State though.

The Iowa guys are dirty wrestlers but they are dirty within the rules of the sport. They’ll butt heads with you or club too aggressively or just after the whistle blows. I don’t think Brands would tolerate the bs Desanto did just because he got spanked.

Read a nerdy-cool piece breaking down the tourney "by the numbers." Looking at bonus points scored, place vs seed, points vs projected points based on seed, etc. Iowa had a helluva weekend. Scored the most bonus and outperformed their seeds. Spencer Lee (8th seed placed 5th) and 'Cenzo Joseph (3rd to 1st) along with Nickal pin in finals sealed it for PSU. tOSU did very well, outpointing their projected seed totals with a lot of bonus points. NC State blew past expectations. Missouri dropped a big Tiger egg. The four that did place came in below their seed. Two seeded guys (5th and 2nd) did not place. I would suspect they will up their schedule quickly. I believe their contract with MAC is up soon. Might try a different conference. 

How about Zeke Moisey from West Virginia?  Trashed on this thread for losing in his conference finals.

He is now an NCAA Division 1 All American.

That included a win over Kyle Norstrem of Virginia Tech.

He is now a COLLEGE All-American!  Good for him, good for Sammy.

AS much as I like Sammy as a wrestler, I have never thought of him as an elite head coach. He pulls talented kids because of his name but I believe they eventually fall off. But his name is beginning to lose its luster with this group of incoming wrestlers. I think he makes one hell of an assistant in the right program.

I cannot disagree with your comments.  Perhaps he should have been an assistant for a longer period of time to adjust to the differing role.  But you have a good point.

Admittedly he is over the top and has a couple questionable things he implements in the room.

But Austin definitely wasn't considered a to recruit he lost. He was getting whooped by Vizcarrando when he was there and viz was average 

Have you checked out any of the post match interviews Flo did? Each guy showed class and grace in defeat. There is a reason these guys were wrestling on ESPN during prime time. Amazing young men.

Don't think I am out of touch with what is going on in college wrestling, just my opinion as to what is happening now. The Big 12 is not what it used to be by no means so saying they beat some originals is not really doing much. How did the Big 12 fair at NCAA's? They were considerably down this year. I am a fan of Sammy's, but still believe he is a better assistant than head coach. I hope he proves me wrong.

Sammy is a super intense guy and a fantastic asst coach. Maybe he is not cut out to be a head coach. I'd say his recruiting resume while at W Va is pretty dismal. Outside of Moisey did any of them score team points at NCAAs?

Jake Smith. Kind of a disappointment seeing as he was ranked top 5 most his sophomore and junior year. But he scored points this year.

Matthew Schmitt took down gross in the first round and scored points this year won a match.

And of course Moisey even though he medical forfeited in his all American bout.

So nothing spectacular at all.

His recruiting left a lot more to be desired especially being in the hot bed that wv is in.  Even Zeke was a Turnbull recruit

220, weakest and thinnest weight class in country.

KY very weak wrestling state. The best leave for competition. Had the chance to try Ohio, but fled, only to return for mediocre sw Ohio tournaments ( no iron man, brecksville, medina, etc etc) 

Grade school "nationals". Freshman year had 11 man "national" bracket.

His age for his grade doesn't  add up. Wrestling in grade level tournaments instead of age...until junior or senior.

Chose WV despite "many" offers from big ten schools etc.

Fled the big 12 for Mac to try to sneak into NCAA tournament.

Mediocre heavy who needed an "adjustment year" to reach a 500 record. 

RsSoph year, huge wins over d2 and lesser opponents. Gets skyed by average wrestler and beat by NAIA. 

Out for season for undisclosed reason. (Grade, disacpline, steroids?)

Mizzou recruiting the hell of of heavies. 

Best college win is against around a 40 or 50 something ranked wrestler. Zero wins over anyone of note in highschool.

Will end up AAing for NAIA and having you saying it could have been d1 because he beat a d1 backup during the AA year.

Pretty darn impressive. I'm a believer after watching Steveson compete this past weekend. To watch a senior in high school battle against some of the best senior level heavyweights in the country is remarkable. I think some are comparing his trajectory to Steve Mocco (Iowa/Oklahoma State), but I think Steveson's career could be even more special. Admittedly, Coon controlled the match, but Steveson can close the gap by adding strength. His leg attacks were clean, but he lacked the ability to finish. Definitely a tough matchup for Steveson. The Dom Bradley match could have gone either way, and that speaks volumes. I remember Dom in high school, a man amongst boys. 

Kyle Dake and Alex Dierenger are going to continue to have some epic battles. I can't remember a time where America has had so much depth. We have weight classes where we have two legitimate world medalist threats. Good time to be a U.S.A. wrestling fan!

I haven't been on here in a long while, from what I have read it's seems that a lot of you have such a dislike for his Dad that you actually revel over his son not wrestling. I'm just as guilty as the next guy. Several years ago I said some things on here that I'm not very proud of. I would like to apologize for those remarks because I used his family to get to him.  No matter what he does hopefully the young man has gotten his education and is preparing for his vocation. Many of you don't like that he brags on his sons. I brag about my kids too so hopefully no one hopes that my children fail just to get back at me. I hope that all Kentucky wrestlers can do well in whatever they choose in life.

h0pper, It has nothing to due with him bragging about his sons, he has every right they are great kids and wrestlers. The reason the others has chastised him is for his ATTITUDE, this forum started out as a question as to the status of Kentucky kids future in college wrestling. The fathers ATTITUDE & ARROGANCE immediately changed the tempo of the room. I have watched and read no matter who said what whether it be praise for his kids or criticism he went off on a tangent. He constantly felt he had to belittle every poster,then try to turn it back to what he accomplished. As a parent and coach I find it counter productive to the sport as well as the athletes. Just my own opinion.

I must say I think its a shame how a forum lets its posters take knocks on a kid who has done so much in.the sport and for the rep of the state ,always went out of his way as did I for whatever was best for the sport in ky starting from day 1 ,not many top 20 recruits coming out of ky in wrestling let alone any who would put their record on the line for the good of the state over and over as he did ,One double AA in ky history one undefeated wrestler as well ...nuff said .

This was how this whole forum started. Very first post. here are more of Our Ky fans and coaches Praising his son. Only negative found in this thread was or is from his father or in response to his negativity. I find it hard to understand why someone can be so hateful towards people who legitimately were interested in his kids doing well for themselves!
