KentuckyWrestling.com Academic All-State Team

Topic ID: 1434 | 13 Posts

We would like to give recognition to all wrestlers with outstanding performance in the classroom as well as on the wrestling mat.

This year, the moderators and I would like to start an Academic All-State Team and/or Honor Roll.

I'd like to hear your suggestions for requirements to be on the Academic All-State team and any other suggestions/opinions you have about the subject.

WV-Mat requires that the student have a 3.7 for the first semester of the school year or a 3.7 cumulative average. They also have an Honor Roll listing of students that have a 3.0 or higher GPA.

That sounds like a great idea!

The WV requirements sound good, are they on the same 4.0 grading system as most if not all KY schools?

Excellent idea.

The 3.7 GPA is a good idea.  You might even consider having an "honorable mention" category for students with GPA from 3.5- 3.7.    The exisiting Academic All-state for other sports has that category.

You can obviously put Ben Rupp on the top of this list.

And B.J. Slone of Sheldon Clark has a 4.29 gpa and will probably be valadictorian.

Valedictorian and how do you have a 4.29 on a 4.0?

Jake Wempe(JR), Isaac Ervin(SO), Carson Chambliss(SR), and Levi Griggs(SO) all have a 4.0 from Union.

When you take AP classes (advanced placement) they are called weighted classes. He has taken all the advanced placement classes so that make you gpa higher.

Oh, I see.  That must be a new thing, relatively speaking, because it wasn't like that a few (quite a few) years ago when i was in school.  Good for him and everyone else listed.

yea "a.p." classes are based on a 5.0 scale

Campbell COunty also has Matt Holthaus who is #2 in his grade and Jeff Weckbach who is #3

From North Hardin, Matt Baker will have a 4.0 for this semester and should be around 3.75 cumulative GPA when semester grades are posted.  He was this week's WHAS11 student scholar of the week, sponsored by Bellarmine University.

James Baker (285lbs.)from Letcher County Central has a GPA of 3.7 and scored a 30 on the ACT.  he is also ranked in the top 20 in the wrestling rankings.
