Three from Harrison win at Bourbon Bash

By LEE KENDALL, sports writer

Andy Lenz, Josh Ashbrook and Beau Sanders all won their respective weight classes in the 18-team Bourbon Bash wrestling tournament, held this past Saturday at Bourbon County High School.

Lenz won his first career tournament title at 103, registering a perfect 4-0 mark on the day. After a first-round bye, Lenz pinned the Perry County Central entrant in the quarterfinal round at the 5:36 mark of the match. In the semis, he earned another pinfall win as he got the better of the Bourbon County entrant at the 3:10 mark.

In the finals, Lenz lost the first point of the match to his Montgomery County foe, but immediately reversed, and never trailed thereafter, ultimately winning a 9-3 decision.

Ashbrook made the most of his first event of the season, winning three straight matches. An injury suffered in Harrison County's football playoff loss to Lexington Catholic, kept Ashbrook out of the Breds' starting lineup until Saturday.

In the quarters, he pinned the Paul Laurence Dunbar wrestler in the 135 pound weight class in just 31 seconds. He came back in the semis and had to work a bit harder, but still earned a pinfall win when bested Sheldon Clark's entry at 3:55.

In the finals, Ashbrook was forced to go the distance in winning a decision over Butler's entrant, 7-4.
