For some reason Ohio seems to dominate us in just about every aspect of wrestling... we have a few stand outs but.... Who is good enough to Win state in ohio that is from kentucky

Who was the 103 that you saw?

Why is this true??  Like it or not there are many reasons this is true.

Not in any particular order.

1.  Population size of Ohio outnumbers KY almost 10 to 1

2.  School sizes.  Ky has many small schools and few extremely large schools.

3.  Wrestling tradition.  Ohio has a huge history of wrestling.  If you ask anyone who went to High school in Ohio and they will know about their wrestling team.  In Ky this is not always true.

4.  Their wrestlers start earlier than Ky wrestlers.  It's not uncommon for most elementary schools to have a wrestling team.  And it is rare for a middle school not to have a team. Ky is starting to move in the right direction but has a long way to go.

5.  Collage wrestling in Ohio.  Ky has just gotten wrestling back in 2 of our collages, but more are needed in Ky collages.

6.  Competition.  Ohio has schools that are similar to many of the KY schools (struggling with keeping a program), but the percentage is lower in Ohio than Ky.  Schools are able to compete with wrestlers of a high caliber more often (this is why many NKY schools head across the Ohio River to wrestle instead of staying in KY.

Hope this helps.

These are all great points.  I think something else that can be added to this is because they have a stronger tradition, and a lot of their kids go on to wrestle at the college level, those kids come back and make great coaches.  It has a snowball effect.

Getting 2 college teams(and hopefully more)gives the wrestlers in our state

something to work for after high school.

Honestly,if it takes athletics to get a kid interested in college, that wouldn't normally go,so be it.

Off the top of my head this is how many college teams are in Ohio compared to our 2.

We gotta keep growing.

the wrestler that is ranked is david taylor 103 . 1 in the nation. by far the most technical wrestler i have ever seen. there were many other nationally ranked wrestlers there as well. jeff jordan coaching his paris graham kids is pretty cool to watch. i believe i heard the number of nationally ranked kids for the tournament was 18. sk and ryle both attended the tourney. the results can be found at gmvwa website.

Yes it was David Taylor.. very good wrestler amazing technique.. and pretty strong

I think it has something to do with the corn and soybeans thats grown.  Very similar to deer. Ohio produces massive antler growth to that of KY, like that turdy point buck killed in Adams county OH.  Illinois and Iowa all also known for producing trophy bucks just like rasslers.

Taylor was so good, the technique was not seen because he was just so quick, he over whelmed with his speed, very impressive. I think there are two, maybe three KY teams that could place in the top twenty - twenty-five, at best.

Go to baums, then gmvwa tourney.

That Adams county deer was a thirty-six pointer, harvested by an Amish gentleman with a crossbow, he gave the mount to a lodge after he got the meat and signed a $100,000 plus deal with the company he bought the hardware from to make it. Soybean and corn theory sounds good!
