Dream Match

Topic ID: 1542 | 75 Posts

I'm quite sure this has been done before, but what the heck, let's do it again!!!!! The only rules to this is to try to keep weights close. Take any wrestler from any year and match em' up. Personally I would have like to have seen Micheal Jackson (God rest his soul) and Jacob Murton get it on. Let the debates begin.

Richard Starks and Taylor Scherer,(who by the way never cut weight for 215 so the weights would be almost identical in my opinion)

Dan Trejo Tates creek vs. Sullivan

What i would like to see is a rematch of Paul Dunbars Zach Brewer V.s Central Hardins Joe Berrow

And also I would like to see Joe carr Jr. V.s. Issac Knable

Those are some interesting matches but for me it would be:

  Ian Horn vs John wolseifer

  Josh Whitaker vs Taylor Scherer

  Derrick Mollette vs Harrison Courtney

That is some matches that come to mind when I think of what I would like to see..

I would like to see the Jason Detre vs. Will or Richard Starks

Joe Carr Jr vs knable??? r u kidding???? eric slugantz beat knable in a wrestle off at IU!!! Joe Joe would kill him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kyle Ruschell vs. Austin Cooper  8-)

Right now, Ruschell and Brad Cooper.

Jackson v. Murton is a good one.

Carr would pin Knable in 1st period, with his move of choice.

Josh Whitaker v. Livingston Merrit

Eric Slugantz v. Ian Horn

Drew Carmen v. Dan Carmen

Ryan Luna v. George King

Rhodes (sheldon clark) v. Chris Dunn  (epic match, for sure)

Tyler Baldwin v.  Jordan Blackmore

Chris Guillame v. Josh Coulter  (who remembers their semis match at state in 99?)

Bruce Stepp (Sheldon Clark) vs. Frank Wolnitzek (Holmes) Heavyweight

Jason Detre (Larue) vs Miguel Merritt (Hopkinsville) 189

Ian Horn (Woodford Co.) vs. Willie Ennels (Hopkinsville) 160

Nice call on the Jeremy Rhodes and Chris Dunn match, that would be epic! As far as the Dan and Drew Carmen match, I would bet on Dan. I wrestled both of them, Dan was absoloutley the tougher of the two.

a cooper metzger rematch?

Luke Metzker ST. X VS. Anothony Smith CH. CO. in their prime.

Luke Metzker was from Henry Clay, but yes, that would be a good match.

a cooper metzger rematch?

I second that.  That one should be played on ESPN classic daily.

True, if they showed the match maybe then people would see that it was not a reversal, but simply a loss of control. That should have been an overtime match.

Jacob murton vs kyle ruschell

Jarious murton vs wolsifer

The 2001

Mike Ramsey, Marlon Dill Hwt match.

This was right out of a Rocky movie.

Should be shown to the underdog before thier match.  (Ah but I'm a fan of the fat guys)

David Richey (3 time champ from Caldwell Co. in the '80s) and Travis Sullivan

How about Josh Whittaker and Taylor Sheer??

richard starks and taylor schrer

knable vs carr

cooper vs murton

wolsifer vs brad cooper

courtney vs joe carr

grady peterson vs anthony smith...both at their prime...

True, if they showed the match maybe then people would see that it was not a reversal, but simply a loss of control. That should have been an overtime match.

from what I remember they gave a loss of control and then a takedown at the buzzer, but I could be wrong. But all I know is that cooper deserved whatever it was after all of those granby's at the end

Drew and Dan Carmen were more evenly matched than you think, I too wrestled them both. Both had short stints as college wrestlers, Drew beat an All-American at some point in his short college career.  Dan was so muscular for his weight, Drew was a technical guy.

Anthony Smith would beat Luke Metzger (close though)

What about Luna v. King I figured this would spark some talk.

What about Luna v. King I figured this would spark some talk.

What King? There have been several, two just from Fern Creek.

Jackson, Fern Creek vs Powers, Southern

if your talking about ryan luna(152)pad. vs george king(171)union  luna took 4th in 2000 should have been in the finals but got screwed by the ref in a 3-2 match vs ralph lay(wood) who got pinned in the finals, king who got 1st and most outstanding wrestler, pinned his way through the tourn. 1 round-:21 seconds,2-:31,3-1:59 and in the finals:49  king would doninate the match probabley pin him, trowbridge(union 160 state champion) beat ryan in a dual that year in pad.

Travis Sullivan vs. Issac Knable

Ive got Joe Carr v. Jeremy Rhodes match on tape. Jeremy was wrestling up a weight class. It was pretty good. Went to overtime.

Joe Carr vs Travis Sullivan when they won 103

The 2001

Mike Ramsey, Marlon Dill Hwt match.

This was right out of a Rocky movie.

Should be shown to the underdog before thier match.  (Ah but I'm a fan of the fat guys)

this was the best and most exciting match ive ever seen, right in front of metzger and scott coopers finals match.  I would love to see ramsey and dill again. when the 12 foot tall 275 lb giant ran full speed and collided with ramsey, he didnt even budge, came back from being down like 12 to 2 or something like that

Jacob Murton 10th grade 125 state champ 2004 Vs. Kris Perry 12th grade 119 state champ 2004

140- Daniel Thurenen vs Joe Powers  2 years ago @ state

Golsby Vs. Ervin.  This time Golsby doesn't get chaeted by the ref.

140- Daniel Thurenen vs Joe Powers  2 years ago @ state

Powers only knew a double, and granted was strong but got absolutely destroyed at nationals.  In my opinion it was a weak weight class

also while i'm here, joe carr jr vs. Henry Cejudo

Jonny Wolsiefer vs Isaac Knable

or Kyle Rushell vs Isaac Knable (freshman year 112)

David Richey (3 time champ from Caldwell Co. in the '80s) and Travis Sullivan

I'd have to go with David Richey. He is helping North Hardin with there program and still is tough to beat. Plus he has many more accomplishments after High School.

Powers only knew a double, and granted was strong but got absolutely destroyed at nationals.  In my opinion it was a weak weight class

also while i'm here, joe carr jr vs. Henry Cejudo

Joe was PUKING his stomach out at nationals and still wrestled. I guess that double leg worked well for him, he had a Gold medal around his neck at state.

Also just for the rwecord his first match at nationals was a kid who placed from iowa and second he had Food Poisioning his second match so he wasnt in good conditition

matt mines from ft. campbell

matt mines from ft. campbell

He was a beasty looking kid. I thought joe was toast for sure seeing he was all strength and football tackle, so I didnt know who was stronger foreal. But once again, joe refused to lose.

Metzger vs. Cooper rematch

Jacob Murton vs. Isaac Knable

Louden Swain vs. Brian Shute rematch!!

Louden Swain vs. Brian Shute rematch!!

i wonder who ended up winning at state?

i wonder who ended up winning at state?

:-D :-D  that's funny, i've always wondered the same thing.  I think he got thumped downstate.  Shute was an animal.  His own dad had to use a livewire to keep him from ________ the fire place!

i wonder who ended up winning at state?

Vision Quest 2 Shute beats him in the state finals.

I heard, not sure if its true but:

Louden ran out of blood time in the 3rd period during the State finals and had to forfeit, to bad too because Shute who was clearly out of gas from trying to get off his back!

Both went on to wrestle in college but when Carla ran off with Shute, Louden was never the same! They never wrestled each other again because Louden quit cutting so much weight at the advice of his physician, Dr. Matt Burns.

Rumor has it they both have 4th graders attending rival catholic grade schools in upstate New York wrestling in the 65lb wt class shaping up for a great Vision Quest 2020.

now that's funny

Vision Quest was awesome..... And prep wrestling parents are meaner than high school parents. I could see the two fathers staring each other down as the match goes into overtime and of course the guy cutting weight

josh coulter was terrible

Isaac Knable vs. Isaac Knable

Livingston Merritt  vs  Bruce Stepp  :-o

Some matchups I thought would have been good, suprised we didnt see some of these with there weights being so close.

Metzker vs Brad Cooper....  Pretty sure Brad Cooper beat Scott Cooper there senior year

Wolsiefer vs Courtney

Wolsiefer vs Mitch Ervin ...  Should of happened last year

Wolsiefer vs Pat Banks

Mason Reid vs Any of the above

Peace vs Courtney/Banks/Ervin

Theunamen vs Banks..... Recently two of the best never to win a championship imo.

Jordan Whiting vs Marlon Dill.... Imagine that!!!

Matchups I hope to see this year.

Issac Ervin vs Coutney

Dusty Brown vs Josh Johnson

Johnson vs Justin Davis

Bruce Stepp (Sheldon Clark) vs. Frank Wolnitzek (Holmes) Heavyweight

Jason Detre (Larue) vs Miguel Merritt (Hopkinsville) 189

Ian Horn (Woodford Co.) vs. Willie Ennels (Hopkinsville) 160

No disrespect but Big Willie Style was and is faster, stronger, and flat out better than Horn.. Anyone that wrestled in that late 80's early 90's or got to witness Willie's grace should agree

This may be true about Willie but Ian would beat him in the 3rd period.  Ennels had no wind.  Every close match he needed to take a break.  With todays rules he would

1: only have 1:30 injury instead of 2 minutes

2: would not be able to take 3 or 4 short time outs like you use to be able to do until a cummulitive 2:00.

Ian would be able to keep it close until the 3rd then mop him up in the last 2 minutes. (if you want to go that far however. Jarod Trice trumps them all)

its probably already been said but i wana see David "the Legend" Liebrum vs Mason Reid

Jerod Trice was dominant.  The only reason Horn won his 1st state title, was because Hank Pinner's shoulder was torn all to hell.  Pinner at 100% was dominant as well.  He made it back to the finals even with that shoulder which he had surgery on after state.

Lets not forget Tendai Charasika...

I agree that Tendi was dominant but he was untested for the most part.

After defeating Archie Stepp his Soph. year.  His opponents were not of the greatest calliabar (sp).

He defeated McKinlly Stepp (sh cl) and Jarod Combs (Scott) his senior

I believe Trice would easily defeat him, Ennels would out manuver him.  Not to mention the Miguell Merrit.

Miguel was a man amoung boys.  The program has really gone to hell these days.

Jordan whiting vs. matt byrd

caleb wood (112 year) vs. sullivan (senior year)

coty lewis (112) vs. peace (112)

Who would win these matches?

Jordan whiting vs. matt byrd

caleb wood (112 year) vs. sullivan (senior year)

coty lewis (112) vs. peace (112)

Who would win these matches?

This is what I think the results would be.

Byrd pin Whiting ...  Byrd was a pretty good wrestler for being a big guy and I think he would catch Whiting.

Sullivan MDec Wood ....  Caleb Wood never really impressed me to much.

Lewis m dec Peace ....  Peace was a 8th grader when he was 112 I believe.  Lewis was at the top of his game at 112, and would of been to much.  Anyother year after this and the outcome would probably be different.

Ive got Joe Carr v. Jeremy Rhodes match on tape. Jeremy was wrestling up a weight class. It was pretty good. Went to overtime.

I watched Joe work Harrison over in practice today. I didn't get to see Joe in his prime, but it was funny to watch him dismantle Harrison. His speed is still insane.

Last years what should have been the finals... Bailey vs Whiting....Bailey would destroy Whiting n my opinion

Last years what should have been the finals... Bailey vs Whiting....Bailey would destroy Whiting n my opinion

Duck, I agree with you on that. I was really impressed with Bailey. Thought all year he would be the champ. And he was so big, Whiting wouldn't have gotten away with throwing him into a table.

I would have to say a great rematch would have been curt martin from caldwell against the kid from whitley co., in the state semi finals match 2 years ago, it was a great match it was decided after the 4th overtime. the whitley co. kid won because kurt couldnt get the escape in the last overtime.

royal rumble between all of the ervins, ever!

royal rumble between all of the ervins, ever!

that would go on FOREVER..someone would come and and then someone would come in

it would literally have to go on forever because the ervins just keep poppin em out and they just devastate by the age of three... so it would have to end in a draw.

Dan carmen was good (i should know i lost to him in the finals) but the better match would be Shaun Smith VS Grady Peterson
