Four high school wrestling teams ranked among the top seven in Kentucky will headline the Jefferson County Tournament of Champions today and tomorrow at Eastern.
The event, which will include all public and private schools from Jefferson County, will begin at 5 p.m. today and resume tomorrow morning at 10. Finals are set to start at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
According to the Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association's statewide rankings, No. 3 Fern Creek, No. 5 Trinity, No. 6 Seneca and No. 7 Eastern should contend for the title.
"I think it's a three-horse race with Fern Creek, Trinity and us," said Seneca coach Chuck Anderson. "And I see St. Xavier as a spoiler. They'll have an impact on who wins."
Fern Creek won last week's Woodford County Invitational, beating the host and defending state champion Yellowjackets. Seneca finished third.
Fern Creek is led by senior John Wolsiefer, ranked No. 1 in the state at 160 pounds.
Other top-ranked wrestlers expected to compete are Seneca's Elliott Martin (ranked No. 2 at 103 pounds), John Chiu (No. 3, 119) and Dan Fuller (No. 3, 125); Trinity's Myron Bradbury (No. 3, 103), John Florence (No. 2, 171) and Jordan Whiting (No. 3, 215); Eastern's Joaquin Luna (No. 1, 119) and Ben Rupp (No. 1, 171); and Fern Creek's Malcolm Jackson (No. 3, 140).
