Updated State Duals Information

Topic ID: 15814 | 34 Posts

The Kywca Meet last night to decide on a plan for state duals. We have worked hard to do everything we can to still move forward with the event and with this format we feel we will have a great day of wrestling,  be able to have spectators,  and have the least amount of risk for teams in covid times. Here is what we came up with.

Date: Feb 27th (9am weigh in)

Location: Big at Louisville Central

                  Small at Union Co.

Teams: Section dual champions*

               6- Big     6- small

Format: Round Robin on 3 mats

* if a section dual champion declines to go, the section runner up is now invited. If the section runner up declines to go, we have randomly drawn a list from the all section runner ups. The random draw by section number is 2, 4, 6, 3, 5, 1

Ex: Section 3 Champion declines, then Section 3 runner up is asked. If section 3 runner up declines, then now section 2 runner up is asked.

Won't we be in segment 3 by February 27th?

"Segment 3: * February 15 to the beginning of the region: o Limit dual/tri/quad style meets to a maximum of 12 schools. o Limit tournaments to a maximum of 16 schools OR 168 wrestlers."

It appears that Segment 3 allows for state duals to be run normally, with the only caveat being no extras/jv can weigh in.

Yes, we could have done 12, but the board felt it was best to only do 6.

If a team knows they will not travel to the State Duals why enter the sectional region event?

Or just let your region know and then they can set up who is going.  (Example: team A and B know they are not going.  A defeats B in finals and Team C is third and is willing to go) Team C is declared the qualifier by the regional.

This allows each region to be represented.

I feel bad for the number 2 teams in the tougher regions.

I like this idea. A lot.

Are fans being allowed to attend Big School State Duals or only parents?

No general admission.  Each team gets allotment

Ohio County put in their results, but no others. Looks like it came down to McCracken vs Christian. Who’s taking the final spot at state duals?

Christian co won, but opt out of states. McCracken Co was runner up and will fill their spot

I heard that Christian County was on the list to go to Paducah Tilhman this weekend from another coach last night.

It says it’s a individual tournament with pools then moves to a 4 man bracket for placement. Would have been nice to see the teams that won their qualifier wrestle at the Big School championships if their able to travel and not affected by Covid protocols.

Fireworks in Large school, not so much in Small school.

A 12 team tournament would have probably brought even more fireworks to both tournaments.

Agree

Small school - Union co runaway with Larue a clear second

Large school - Ryle the favorite with Johnson Central on their tails. Guessing this dual will be best of the weekend. I think Campbell quietly takes third with a solid win over woodford

Where will this be available to watch?

I know the local news station in Union will show their matches on WMSK facebook. Not sure about the other duals going on.
