    I'll miss this weight class

Thueman,Sanders,Peace

Cant forget mines,or ervin. Both are contenders.

Anyone have some early predictions for the top wrestlers at 135?

Jacob Murton would be at the top of my list  and those listed.

I'd like to see Thuneman v Murton. The match might be closer than many would think.

No it wouldn't.

Wow. Thats some certainty there, at least i left it ambiguous. It seems many think Murton would be able to do a back flip, land behind you, tackle you from behind and get the two before you're done shaking his hand.

The kid is good, maybe great (although still not nationally ranked) ... but not god !! He can be beat by the right guy on the right day ... Smith was that guy last year ... but the right day never came up.

He would! and...He is (not God but nationally ranked)! He won't lose in Kentucky unless he forfeits or injury defaults (just MHO)!

Smith did get a throw in at state last year that Murton wasn't ready for but keep in mind that he came back and won that match 9-5.

I will never say somone is unbeatable but it would take a heck of alot on somones part to beat murton, if you take murtons best match and put it against anyone else in that weight classes best match he is unbeatable but all it takes is one mistake and its bye bye birdie and im rootin for anyone who can do it to murton.

You guys are right, its a big mountain to climb. However, no one is doing him or anyone else any favors by refusing to mention or compare anyone else to him. Especially Murton is done no favors. I'll steal someone else's take on this, it was good.

If he remains on such a high pedestal, and he wins state ... so what then. The kid wins state, and no one cares because it was expected and he was a man amongst boys. If he doesn't win it, then the take is he wrestled terrible ... blew it .... and all that when it may have been another guy step up. Either way he loses in a sense. And the other guy would just be "lucky" in everyone's eyes ... i'm sure that person would like that hung on him after toppling a monster.

Just because no one else was close to him last year, doesn't mean no one can be close to him. There's several guys he hasn't wrestled you know ... Derek Scott, Thuneman, Rusty Parks (if he was bigger), and so forth. I wouldn't mind seeing what happens if Courtney wrestled him either.

I guess thats the point i'm trying to make, and didn't do such a good job at it. I re-read my post and didn't intend to come off confrontational either !

Grapplin Fan,

Im not suggesting that he cant be beaten, Im just trying to give the boy his due. He has been as dominating as any wrestler in the state the past few years.

I think he knows as well as anyone else that no one is invincible. Sometimes its alot more difficult to stay on top with everyone shooting at you than it is to get there. There are alot of good wrestlers he will face this year. If someone beats him then they will have the target on their back for a while.

He has handled himself well displaying poise and good sportsmanship and until someone challenges him (IMO) deserves the respect.

Murton's a good kid and I'm not trying to give him any more dues than he obviously deserves. I just think the comment that Thuneman (or anyone else that's been mentioned) being able to beat him is unjustified. I have been watching wrestling here for several years now and I can honestly tell you that only a couple of wrestlers (thru my personal experience) come to mind when trying to compare with Murton. I'll say Knable and Horn are in his league for sure and possibly Rushelle his senior year. Never saw JoJo wrestle in High School but did see him twice in college so it would be unfair for me to make that comparison because JoJo never impressed me in the college matches that I saw him wrestle in. Look, Murton is one of the rare kids that comes along who just has a knack for the sport as well as the intense drive to be successful. I don't personally see that level of those particular things in any other KY kids at this time. We have some really good wrestling talent but we lack that...intensity... I guess, to become great wrestlers for the most part.

Murton 7 Joey sanders 4 closest so far ,it happened last year. :D

The comment about poise and character is right on. A friend of mine who referees says he's a great kid, so i've heard that. And thats a great thing as good as he is.

I never said any of those guys would beat Murton either, i said it would be closer than people might think. He might run the table this year, but there's guys out there that might not roll over for him either. I brought up the names i did, because he's never wrestled them (i think) and they may land close to his weight this year depending on growth.

For those of you who have seen the movie "Vision Quest"... Murton reminds me of Shoot.

Never seen it, but not thats not the reason for this post.

Where are you at, the North Pole ? :)

Also, we might as well change this thread to 140 predictions, cause that's more than likely where Jacob is going. He told us that at the Campbellsville ranking matches on October 29th.

Were i him, i'd go there. He seemed to do quite well for himself at Fargo going 140.

I think the best thing about Jacob Murton is his personality. I have spoken to him on several occation and he is not cocky or stuck up he is a real down to earth person unlike some of the other good wrestlers in KY.

Yep. He sounds like a kid who's got everything in the proper perspective and has a good head on his shoulders.

Look for johnson centrals Anthony Patrick to make some serious noise at 135 this year.

No offense but Anthony needs to get better before he is going to be a big treat at 135.

i think ashbrooke will have a good match this year against murton at tates creek duals. i would like to see it

Hate to tell you this, but Ashbrooke is not even close to Murton...sorry to disappoint you and I do wish him the best of luck this year.

Im with Happy Pappy. I dont think there is anyone in the state from 130-145 that comes close to the skill of Jacob Murton. If you watch his matches there is no wasted movement he just gets in there and gets the job done.
