THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW TO GET KENTUCKY ON THE MAP

Topic ID: 162 | 7 Posts

You could also take note of what I've said before that the only way to get our wrestlers to be motivated and want to go is not chewing them out in the preseason or season, but to encourage them throughout the entire year and let them know they can do it.

1.Alot of them hear what their state says about them and it was all last year the Best wrestlers and only ones to be able to compete is Ruschelle,Murtons and thats it and then you all say maybe starks and scherer, well on a young mind thats just going to make them think, well maybe those guys are the only good ones that can do it,so maybe I shouldnt even bother, whether I work hard or not,its called reverse psychology.

2.Send brochures to all the homes of ranked kentucky wrestlers and let them know about Nationals or any other good tournament.

3.Confidence and Respect-Give it everyday, they have to believe they are good enough, and it starts with you, everybody has the potential, and it will not come from headbusting everybody who isnt winning state but are working their asses off

4.Dont eliminate individuals because they dont have good enough technique or strength, thats just telling them they wouldnt be good enough to use what they are good at or what they got at Fargo,Nationals,JuniorOlympics or wherever.

5.Constructive Criticism-If your going to chew one of your OWN wrestlers from your OWN state out because they dont wrestle like,A Brad Cooper,Luke Metzker,Isaac Knable,Jacob Murton,or whoever, make them feel good about it and be positive.

Sorry guys I know I'm only 19 but I have common sense and I do know what I'm talking about, but getting our guys ready is going to take something more than "Ok,guys Wrestle hard and Practice hard" It's going to take alot more than that, and we got it,we just have to do it.

Do I have a point?

Also I know I'm going and going on and on,but have you wondered why alot of the 2005 Seniors didnt go to Senior Nationals, its not just because they werent invited but they werent encouraged or motivated and the tournament was not advertised to them, and all year it was a competition to be better than Kyle,Taylor,Richard, or Jacob all fine wrestlers but if you'd give that much energy to the UNDERRATED WRESTLERS! It would spark them up to go out there and do it,How do you get a fish to go out there and wrestle a state champion without being worried,The coach usually tells them,You have nothing to lose,Go out there and just have fun and wrestle,WHY NOT???It ends in College and then you have to be serious and fun isnt there anymore! Some of the best Seniors last year in the country won from confidence and went there with a attitude that "I can do it" and alot of them werent overrated wrestlers,How do I know this, look at Ohio for an example Do you think there is one wrestler standing out as a overrated wrestler,No because the whole State knows how there boys can do and gets all of there heads pumped up,here is your table

Ohio

Most likely a State that doesnt care who is in there way, they will win,and they dont chew there guys out because they have that thing called Faith

Kentucky(our ole kentucky home)

"Well we dont have any guys in kentucky like Joe Carr" "Woodford couldnt beat Mater Dai"(Which in reality maybe not,but whoever said there was something wrong with saying they are good enough to do it not because they are 15 or whatever time state champions,or that they have alot of cocky fans, but because they are supposed to be the team that holds the glue for our state)"I only see two wrestlers placing at nationals from kentucky,Jacob Murton and Kyle Ruschelle""Are you kidding Starks couldnt win nationals" All of that negative vibe is alot of the reason why none of our guys will bother to go,or even believe they can go. Whoever thought Kyle Ruschelle who only won state twice and was runner up once(In that supposely WEAK STATE of KENTUCKY) and has never won any big tournaments other than that would go to Senior Nationals and place 3rd, noone wouldve never guessed that or would say he wouldve came that close, now if that wasnt a sign, then what was, but with alittle more than Work, you can do anything,REMEMBER WRESTLING IS MORE MENTAL,SO Why do we keep saying you have to just work hard to get there.

Think About It,Believe It,Try It

Sounds to me like you have a personal attack here. You are right in one thing, you have to wrestle national events to get national attention. But wrestling is an individual sport with team points, and if an individual is motivated enough to want to pursue wrestling, then he will make the sacrificies that he needs to so he can get on the national level. Do not blame it on coaches or anyone else. Wrestling takes a major commitment, if you want to wrestle through the school year, then do it, if you want to do it in college, then you have to put forth a major effort. I am from TN and might not know what I am talking about, but Kentucky has some solid wrestlers, and the only one I have seen to put himself on the line and make himself better is Eric Bryant. He is not the best wrestler in your state, but he has the will and determination to be the best. He goes to the National events, summer events locally, and geniunly wants to get better. I am not for sure, but I do not think it is his coaches taking him to these places, I am sure it is his dad. So that to me says that HE wants to get better. So, if you want to cry about not getting exposure, look inside yourself, not the coaches. Remember, this is an individual sport with team points, so only YOU can make it happen.

I agree with both of you.....good points.

It does take more guys like Eric before we can start to change this state around. About 100 more! I just don't see the individual effort in the off season, not to be negative. Other states have that.

Plus, for example. Ohio has something like 700? high schools with wrestling programs. Kentucky has what? 100, maybe. Probably 50 full teams. And only 10 are very good. Just not a popular sport here. All the little kids seem to want to play other sports.

But I have a lot of respect for the few that are putting their all into it. Keep it going guys.

Bearz, why are you coming to me so disrespectful it shows that even after telling the truth and being nice about it someone like you wants to be a Jack****,I know we have solid wrestlers and I can name all of them without looking on khsaa.org or anything, and its not crying,I am not the one on here asking people why our wrestlers arent going to nationals or are nationally ranked thats not me,but I am stating a good reason why,and I am not blaming it on anyone, definetly not the hard working coaches, but people who get o n here and spread their negative vibe and and dont take the time to realize what and how you get a Young Mind to work, and by the way I'm young and just graduated from high school and I think I would know alot more about how OUR minds would work then you! Yeah its going to take alot more Sacrifice or whatever but as a state which is why we all think our state isnt strong,we all have to work together and support each other and help each other, you wouldnt know that your from TN,this is KY and this is what goes on over here all the time. All I'm saying is we need to stop attacking indivduals from weight classes because they dont have the style of wrestling you like but to say say more positive things about them. And if you think that is wrong, then you have some learning to do.

Just Wrestle you also serve a good point that I didnt realize, other states do have more schools that wrestle than us,and there are a lot that doesnt here,I can think of some

Boyle County

Boyd County

Lexington Catholic

Campbellsville

Taylor County

Green County

Bardstown

Marion County

Adair County

Mason County

Hart County

and I keep going all day,and I heard through the grapevine Nelson County a new wrestling program doesnt want it because the football team had a losing record in 4A and they all want to wrestle, things like that could be a good reason why,Alot of people dont want to wrestle because of the spandex, weight loss, injuries, and blah blah blah all those sissy reasons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol: But it can go all day,who knows man!

Bottom line, if you want to be recognized, do something about it. It is up to you, to put yourself on the line nationally. How many Kentucky wrestlers went to Fargo, Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals?

How many Kentucky wrestlers went to the central regionals, Southern regionals? This is nothing against the state of Kentucky, but you are asking how to get them on the map, I have one answer, WRESTLE. I have seen Ben Warner at a couple of these also. Last thing, put yourselves on the map, cause the map will not find you.. No disrespect intended!
