     Looking at the 215# brackets I noticed you have 4 wrestlers ranked that aren't even going to the semi state rounds? Are you counting them in as participants because they may get in Via an Alternate spot? Just curious.

When I update rankings I don't totally remove someone just because they didn't qualify, because I still view them as a top 30 wrestler.  For example, if a region had 5 top 10 guys, the #10 guy shouldn't fall off by finishing 5th at region, but obviously won't place at state.

Fair enough, I was just curious. That makes sense to me.

It helps going into next year as well.  Those guys maintain their relative ranking, but I do remove wrestlers who do not compete at the end of the season.

Wasn’t it 145 back in like 05’ or 06’ - Kyle Cooper wound up being an alternate - due to the top 5 wrestlers in the state being in the same region. The very next year he won state. 

In 03 Kyle was alternate.  3 of the region placers placed 4th 5th and 6th.  Kyle won state the next year. 

In 1999, John Dials of Sheldon Clark placed 5th in his region (old Region 4). He ended up wrestling in the state tournament as an alternate and upset, as I recall, the #1 wrestler in the state in the first round with a pin via a standing cradle (opponent may not have been #1, but he was a 1 seed). He would end up wrestling that same wrestler in the consolation semifinals and proceeded to get teched. He would go on to place 5th. Dials became a state champion two years later.

It’s these kind of stories that make me love this sport so much. 

Way back in the ancient times when I wrestled 1983 Ampher from Campbell was 4th in District (I can't remember 100% but he may even have been the 5th place alternate). In the regional tournament placed 5th (Alternate).  Got into the state tourney and placed 6th.
