Fern Creek Not going to State Duals

Topic ID: 1719 | 76 Posts

Last night North Oldham beat Oldham County and Fern Creek so Fern Creek got bumped out of the top seed of region 5 and is no longer going to State Duals.

[move]North is getting better in ever way Man.[/move]

yea but bullitt central backed out so there is an opening

Didn't see that one coming...

Is this right? Fern Creek got beat by North? Must have had a few wrestlers out?

Yea Fern Creek must have had several guys out because a few weeks ago I heard that North Barely beat John Hardin...and weren't too far above Iroquois or Moore.  Wonder what the results were.

Sounds like there might be some gloating going on here....I may be wrong but isn't it a little too late to be changing who will be at state duals?  Doesn't how you place at the previous state tournament help decide who will be there along with this years record????  Just curious.

no. each region has a system for how the 2 representatives get selected. For example: 2 or 3 regions have a "regional dual tournament" while others use regular season dual results to decide who goes. You could have placed dead last at State last year, but win one of your regional spots this year and still go to State Duals.

so does this mean fern creek is definitely out??

Wouldn't that make alot of people happy!!

You didn't beat Fern Creek.

You beat a team missing about I believe, 7? of our varsity wrestlers.

Know what you're talking about, that was NOT Fern Creek, and for North to take our spot is just ludicris and should not happen.

Whatever, they won, if they want it that bad, they can have it in my opinion.

What about Larue, are they cleared to wrestle yet? i heard most of there team was out with staph?

for North to take our spot is just ludicris and should not happen.

It's ludicrous that some Fern Creek wrestlers didn't wrestle because they "didn't want to wrestle" (direct quote from a Fern Creek wrestler) against North Oldham, and decided not to show. It's their own fault for letting this happen. Or that some kids on their team were 5 to 10 pounds over, so they didn't weigh-in.

To be exact, North earned their way to State Duals by winning 2 matches. They pinned @ 135 and 215. Forfiets @ 119, 125, 145, 152, 160 and heavyweight. Won by pin Warren @ 103 and JV @ 112, Branch won in OT @ 130, Stewart Maj dec.@ 140, Waller pinned@ 171, Hardin pinned@ 189. So Congratulations North, you snuck your way in!!! If I were FC Seniors, I would be highly upset with these forfeits!

Don't degrade the team and other teammates, yes it was a bad choice by them, but not everyone's fault.

Yes it's State Duals which is totally a TEAM thing, but for them to do something like this is just stupid, I mean we would've had to PIN EVERY SINGLE MATCH of the night just to TIE them. We really didn't even lose that bad and we gave up JV at 112 and 215, and forfeited 119,125,145,152,160, and heavyweight.

Show me any team that can win against those odds.

i dont see how that is degrading at all, im just saying what i heard from the FC wrestlers i talked to. a team is only as good as it's weakest link. its degrading that FC wrestlers are going to tell the other team that their wrestlers just didn't want to show up.

I heard many things why Fern Creek kids didn't show up, because they were hurt, because they were sick, because they didn't want to wrestle, they wanted to take a rest, they were ineligible.  If you ask me this just sounds like a bunch of excuses and after all that they don't even deserve to wrestle at state duals.  Yea North might not have beaten Fern Creek at it's toughest but your only as good as the weakest teammate.  They should have figured that any team is a threat in the region.

fern creek was missing daniel wexiler 112,caleb wood 119, malcolm jackson 140,ben barger 145, cody mann 152, johnny wolsiefer 160, deon cchaney 215  and to get information right we didnt all miss because we didnt wanna wrestle some are are hurt some of us are dealing with injurys. everyone knos this aint right on all levels.

I agree scarecrow, and to say that people were 5-10 lbs over is a far fetch from the truth!

Regardless you guys should've been able to plug a few of those guys in to beat a team like North, not taking anything away from them. But having 7 people hurt? did u guys get in a bus wreck or something?

Um, FYI, the rules clearly state you have to be one of the top two teams in your region. North Oldham beat Fern Creek, whether it was short wrestlers or not, and NO is now the No. 2 team in that region.

And I also believe the rule says you must beat every team in your region to qualify for the State Duals. If not, see ya, you're not going to the State Duals.

In that case, North Oldham SHOULD take your spot at the State Duals because you all can't follow the rules.

What about Larue, are they cleared to wrestle yet? i heard most of there team was out with staph?

False info. There were two wrestlers out with staph infection...that's it. And yes, they will be wrestling this weekend.

I mean, I get what you're saying but I mean if you don't have your full line up, then I don't think they should be able to take your spot. I mean, Fern Creek beat South Oldham by what, 50 something? And lost to North Oldham by like 20, giving up 7 weight classes or so?

Come on, I think that has to account for something, but if not, I guess you're right, and Fern Creek doesn't deserve anything.

If all 7 of those kids are injured, then I don't see why they should be punished. But, if they are injured wouldn't you have someone behind them that could have wrestled against North Oldham?

If all 7 skipped wrestling North because they "didn't want to" or whatever, then North should be in over them, plain and simple.

False info. There were two wrestlers out with staph infection...that's it. And yes, they will be wrestling this weekend.

Who was out with it

Who was out with it

Can't tell you that info.

Well, maybe they were all injured then in that case?

Will that make the verdict change about State Duals?

Guess not :\

its degrading that FC wrestlers are going to tell the other team that their wrestlers just didn't want to show up.

I totally agree.  Clearly not the actions of a championship caliber team.  Maybe they don't deserve it like Mr. Claywell said.  Capable but not deserving...

this topic has gotten stupid the more i think about it...north wants to go and get dimalished and not break top 10 thats there business to go they beat fern creek a team that was no were near there varsity line up but yea they beat a team with the name fern creek so yeah guess they can have are spot but will see how that goes over at regionals...when a fern creek kid wrestlers a north kid just more motivation

everybody should stop bashing on fern creek. they had a bad dual because some wrestlers were out sick and hurt. everybody knows that there a great team and state duals are not going to be the same without them. no other team in the state gets bashed like this for losing a dual meet when starters didnt wrestle. i think teams should be upset that fern creek wont be attending because to be the best you have to beat the best! good luck to all teams

i totally understand what everyone is saying about who is the better team but bottom line was this was a varsity match and they did not win.  For example Travis Sullivan or some other wrestle that would win state gets mono the week before individual state he ends up taking 5th place they cannot let him wrestle in the state tournament just because he wasn;t at his best even though he might be the best kid in the state at that weight class. Point proven

No one is bashing Fern Creek.

All I'm saying is they shouldn't represent their region if they got beat by North. It's that simple.

Take North Hardin for example. Last night they had to wrestle both Central Hardin and Nelson County, or else they wouldn't be going this weekend. That means another team would get to go in their place.

That's what happened with Fern Creek...

i totally understand that they did lose numbers dont lie but do you think that they made the choice to not wrestle and forfiet their bid to state duals? a team like fern creek, that is top 5 in the state, doesnt make decisions like that.

Smalls, I'm just going off what was said in this thread. I don't know for sure what happened, and apparently, neither does anyone else.

ok even if fern creek did go to state duals, how would there sick and injured team get cured all the sudden

ok even if fern creek did go to state duals, how would there sick and injured team get cured all the sudden

Ok i think this is just going to far ok So what we have is Fern Creek Lost to north. And now they are not going to represent their region so lets just drop it If the Fern Creek Kids said they were hurt and or sick then i believe them.

thank you fuller thats what everyone needs to relize fern creeks not going, it wont be the same because the winners cant say they beat the very best teams, north is going instead of us to get killed but there going and fern creek isnt thats the bottom line

If your all done with the he said she said stuff, can anyone explain how they determined who would go, if they all had the same record.

Is there a criteria in place to determine a 3 way tie?

Was it based on winning margin, # of pins, # of forfeits?

Intelligent responses only please!

Hey, a voice of reason has shown up.  I was wondering the same thing.  How did that one dual determine it?  Has anyone else in the region beat Fern Creek?  I think FC beat South Oldham, so should there be a tie of some sort (3 or 4 way)?  Not to get off on a tangent, but I think this is another example of how our sport is failing by now truly tracking results and having mandatory reporting.  Does anyone really know all of the dual results?  I don't think so.  And if I am right, how can that be the criteria for sending teams to the state duals?

The criteria for our region is you have to wrestle and beat everyone to qualify for the State Duals.

I don't know about Fern Creek's region, but based on what's happened, I'd assume it's the same way.

I agree this shouldnt be a judgement call in any way. Surely there is a criteria for determining a 3 way tie?

I don't know about Fern Creek's region, but based on what's happened, I'd assume it's the same way.

I know that Region 6 and 7 have regional duals.  You wrestle every team in the region over 2 days.  There may be some variation from that if teams meet during the season or in the case where Simon Kenton turns down their spot, but I think the finish at that event basically determines who goes.  I personally think this is the best way to do it.  By waiting to let the matchups during the season determine it makes it hard to plan.  Just like North Oldham and Fern Creek.  They may or may not have alternatives lined up or may have to cancel on someone else at the last minute if they get in unexpectedly.  And I don't think any coach organizing and event likes that.

Nelson County held what they called the Region 2 Duals earlier this month, but I'm pretty sure that was the weekend North Hardin was in Tennessee. They had to wrestle Central Hardin and Nelson County last night or North would have been out of the State Duals.

A wise man I work with compared this to basketball. A team loses in the region, but they were without their star player. Said team does not get a do-over and the season is over. That's exactly what happened with Fern Creek...they lost.

I think Region 5 teams make it a point to wrestle each other during the season and that determines which team qualifies. So I think all the teams have wrestled each other. I know Creek beat SO at the Floyd Central Tournament and lost to North. I think South beat North. If they all beat the remaining teams the region, KCD, Eastern, J-town, Ballard and Oldham, all 3 would have a 6-1 won-loss record in the region. If a team missed wrestling one of the teams then their won and loss would be different, resulting in fewer wins, back to your point Ranger regarding record keeping and the need for it and for criteria for determining how teams should qualify.

Does anyone have the specifics of these dual matches in region 5?

All I know is every region determines how to handle this.

It's been years since I have had to worry about this, but back when i was wrestling it was just whoever had the best records in the region (at the time district).  You had to wrestle everyone in your district and the top two teams went.  If there was a tie with record then you looked to see who won the match head to head...if still a tie then we went to a tie breaker like you do for the dual meet.  It hardly ever came into effect.  Usually there was a clear winner and if you didn't have your full team there and got beat by someone then you said fine and the other team went while you did something else!  You didn't cry about it and just waited for district and regionals to come around and try again.

The specifics:

Fern Creek's only loss was to North (regardless of who they brought)

South's only loss was to Fern Creek (and they wrestled everyone but OC)

North's only loss was to South (and they wrestled, and beat everyone else in the region.)

This is the same situation, but there is a tie.  So do we know what the criteria is?

If the below results are correct than it is a tie and so you look at head to head matchups.  Fern Creek lost to North so North is number one.  If South didn't wrestle everyone than they would be ineligible so that would put Fern Creek at number two.  I don't see how you can't count South or Oldham in second since the haven't wrestled each other.

No need to worry any more. The updated flyer has been sent out and North Oldham is in, and Fern Creek is out. Also Harrison Co is in for Bullitt Central.

Where would Fern Creek be going now???

If I were the coach, they would be going to practice!

nice.....i agree.

*I heard* from a reliable source that some of the FC guys, important ones at that, skipped practice the day before, and were not allowed to wrestle, period.  There are also some injuries.  I think they are practicing today instead.  nOldham gets the spot and that's fair.

If that is the case, then they really let their team down considering FC had a really good chance of winning State Duals. I wonder how "important" these guys feel now? I would be ashamed if I let down a team like that. It's sad to see a team that good, do something stupid like that when it matters most!! IMO

yeah all the fern creek guys that did skip, or were injured and couldnt wrestle do feel horrible and yes they've  paid for it. But why dont you leave them alone instead of sitting at home on your computer and make them feel even worse about it??? its not your team so dont worry about it...and yes i was one of the kids that was injured and sat on the sidelines and watched my team get beat so yeah thanks for making us all feel so great about what has happened.

Injured is one thing, and you should not feel bad at all, it is unfortunate to be injured, but to blatently skip practice is another thing. They may have had consequences to pay, but the rest of your team that did make weight and went to practice are the ones suffering. No one is trying to make you feel bad, I just think FC stood a good chance. Only my unbiased opinion as a spectator.

yeah no doubt i think fern creek could have defenitly had a great shot at winning and yeah we got screwed out of going by a team not even in like the top 20 so yeah its saturday as i post this state duals are going on and its all over with we lost are best chance at ever winning the state duals title its over with now

Sounds like the Been brothers must wrestle for FC, Coulda Been, Shoulda Been, Woulda Been.

well first of all there are a few things i would like to point out. number 1 is that we (north oldham) were 16th in the state (scarecrow152 said we werent ranked in the top 20). number 2 is that fern creek screwed up because they decided not to wrestle OC again and if they did they would have been in the duals. number 3 is that people said that we wouldnt place in the top 12. guess what? we got 9th. 4 words to choke on bros. LOOK AT US NOW

Why would we have wrestled Oldham again on a night we were missing 7 weight classes...? That would've just been stupid.

9th...Woo

hey bro look who got in? and dont blame it on not having 7 of your kids. your guys' fault for it.

hey bro look who got in? and dont blame it on not having 7 of your kids. your guys' fault for it.

We know, it's our fault, for the what? 30th time.

Sorry that our team isn't perfect and you all jumped on an opportunity of a lifetime, not only to do a great thing for your team, but to also show me up, WAY TO GO! :D

dont be angry. its okay your time will come

Not angry, just not liking the show me up because I beat your predictions, attitude, but whatever.

ok well i hate to break up the constant slamming on Fern Creek But state Duals are over there is no more to say lets look for regionals and state and put this stupid fued to a rest.

yeah i see where your coming from. i think im jsut excited we even made it there haha. didnt mean to piss you off bro. but next years going to suck for us. well still have taylor south, chris dudley, andre zeppa, dan thomson, jeff thomson, and then ill be able to start again [i was out because our 215 sat on my leg...].. but were losing a few good guys like tom kusiner and antonio zeppa. and well have to see what the middle school has to offer.. most likeley nothing that i know of. chris streicher is alright he got like 4th at middle school regionals. and then in 2 years chase rusch who got 2nd at middle school regionals. but well see what happens when it happens

I have to disagree.  I think North Oldham will have a good team next year.  However, the rest of the region will be strong as well.  This is my thoughts on line ups of some top Region 5 teams next year. SQ=state qualifier next year, SP= State Placer next year, SW= State Winner next year.

On Easterns Lineup:

1. Why is Tommy Warren under eastern?

2. Chris Downs,Mike hall, and Jake Hilliard are graduating

3. Tom Shirey will be at 125 or 130 and will qualify for state definetly

4. Tom Rupp will also be in the lineup

5. I dont think andrew smith will wrestle

i think that if david borst gets up to 215 eh will dominate. the kid went to BCA [bluegrass Challenge Academy] and he took judo or whatever. im not sure. hes really aggressive and hes very quick on his feet. greg billows just needs to learn how to excecute moves better. by the end of his high school career he will be a very good wrestler. he just had a slow start.

The table messed up, the ???? should have been under Eastern.  I thought Chris Downs, Mike hall and Jake Hilliard were Juniors.  If they are graduating, this takes Eastern out of the mix.  Maybe Oldham will take the 4th slot.  What weight class do you predict Rupp to be in?

I have to disagree.  I think North Oldham will have a good team next year.  However, the rest of the region will be strong as well.  This is my thoughts on line ups of some top Region 5 teams next year. SQ=state qualifier next year, SP= State Placer next year, SW= State Winner next year.

I believe next year Fern Creek will win Region, North Oldham Will take Second, South Oldham will take third, and Eastern will be fourth.

what i was saying is that we are losing 2 of our team leaders.
