5 days away! Excited to see these guys go at It. Some interesting match ups. Couple matches that stand out:
#2 Ren Birk and #8 Ryan Smith both jumping a bunch of weights from 113-120 all the way to 144 should be exciting. Ryan may be ranked 8th, but he has ALWAYs been in tight matches with top 2-3 guys. Ren has been pretty dominate in Ky the last few years. Ryan ready to crack into that top 2-3? I could see this being low scoring a super positional match.
#3 James Morris vs. #2 Jonah McCloskey coming down a weight for this season and he will get to test the waters with Jonah who has looked fantastic the last year. (I think Jonah is right there in top 3-4 P4P behind Raneys.) great opportunity for Morris to jump start his season.
#2 126 Landon Evans vs . #1 144 Kaygen Roberts. Landon is not afraid to put It on the line with anyone. Had a couple guys ask for that match and he said yes without hesitation and didn't care the weight. Will be fun to see if he can knock off Kaygen and TJ Meyer in the same month.
#1 120 Ethan Davis vs. #2 113 Roman Valera should be a good one. Ethan looked solid at IHPO and Roman as well. Really comes down to Roman's ability to control match pace and see if he can deal with the size. Ethan doesn't stop wrestling which could make this a high scoring match!
If ANYONE is interested in sponsoring this event to keep It alive for years to come, please reach out to Mike Sullivan via text at 502-551-3787. The athletes aren't charged anything for this event, It is solely done to grow Ky wrestling. Sponsoring this event helps pay for the singlets that are given to athletes.
I think these are some of the most interesting match ups they could have picked. A lot of contrasting styles. Technique vs athleticism. Offense vs defense. I don’t know what to expect out of any of the matches. Great way to kick off the season.

I agree! With Jordyn healing up from the knee surgery it will be interesting to see how some of these guys fall weight wise as the season gets rolling. 126-144 is about as packed as its been in years and you have 2 guys that have a lock on their weights. Curious to see how many guys decide to move up to 150 with a lot of the 150 guys moving up or graduating. Hopefully Jordyn can heal up in time and add to his titles. Knee injuries suck!
COUPLE MORE BONUS MATCHES!
#4 at 120 Zac Scott vs. #11 Mat Wasson
These two battled It out at Freestyle state this year with Mat taking the match 7-6. Should be exciting to see if Mat can jump his way up the rankings with a win, or if Zac can get some revenge in Folkstyle.
#12 at 126 Carson Webster vs. #11 at 138 Dom Goatley
Both of these guys were borderline placers last season and look to kick off their season with a win over a top 15 guy. With Dom being a very small 138 this match could lead to some weight changes pending the outcome!
We will have Alex Green on the call today so check out his Facebook to follow along live and get some tremendous play by play.
Also I would recommend anyone coming in to drop by WW Cousins for the best burger in town
Such an awesome event! Huge thanks to Mike Sullivan at Derby City Legends for hosting and putting in all of the real hard work to make this event happen and showcase so many of the best wrestlers in Kentucky! Nathan Boston also did a lot of legwork to get the matchups set and push the event forward. Both of those guys deserve a huge thank you for their efforts. Also thanks to our officials who ALWAYS support this event and this year was no exception.
This year there weren't so many "Who's #1" type of matchups, but rather we just tried to create what we thought were exciting matches and the kids delivered. So many battles that came down to third period exchanges.
We hope to be able to get this on everyone's calendar much earlier next fall and we HAVE to add a full slate of girls matches. But that is going to require more of our girls to be active and available in the off season.
Thanks for putting it together. We missed it being at Grapplers Fall Classic in Michigan on the exact same date but love to see KY putting more events together!
