Most Years with a Consecutive State Champion

Topic ID: 1834 | 13 Posts

Which teams are competing for the most years with consecutive state champions?

Anyone want to do the work and figure this one out?

According to a quick look at my records:

North Hardin: 13 years 1964-1976 (23 state champs in that period)

Hopkinsville: 7 years 1983-1989 (12 state champs in that period)

Union County:7 years 1979-1985 (16 state champs in that period)

Christian County: 6 years 1984-1989 (9 state champs in that period)

Honorable mention Conner: 12 out of 14 years 1978-1991 (18 state champs in that period)

Current-

Woodford: 12 years 1995-present (30 state champs in that period)

Simon Kenton: 7 years 2000-present (8 state champs in that period)

South Oldham: 4 years 2003-present (8 state champs in that period)

Fern Creek: 3 years 2004-present (3 state champs in that period)

Lawrence County: 3 years 2004-present (5 state champs in that period)

I think all except Lawrence have a shot at keeping the streak alive.

What about Wayne Co. Just Sullivan alone is 2 years.

If I'm right the Woodford streak would be longer, but in 94', Joe Carr of all people was runner up.  Isn't that odd?

There were others, but thats kind funny.  Maybe the best wrestler in KY history could have made the streak longer.

Yes, the Woodford streak would go back to 1991, but they had a gap in 1994.

And Wayne's current streak is only 2.

It looks like Woodford *should* tie the record this year then!

even if woodford does not have a state champ this year (unlikely) they would sitll have the most state champs in a streak wiht 30 in 12 yrs where as Norht Hardin had 23 in 13 years but still these are both amazing

Not to take anything away from Woodford's amazing streak, but to somewhat "equalize" the streaks I think North Hardin accomplished this with only 12 weight classes.

why did they not have the weights filled? or were there just 12 weights back then?

impressive.

Woodford did end up tying this record this year.  I would say that Woodford's streak is more impressive because many years they had multiple state champs, like this year.

How about another question.  What's the streak of one team with multiple state champs?

From my data:

Woodford County:  8 years 1995-2002 (21 state champs)

Union County:  6 years 1980-1985 (15 state champs)

North Hardin:  6 years 1964-1969 (14 state champs)
