West Liberty (D2) places 7th at National Duals

Topic ID: 1838 | 4 Posts

I just wanted to let everyone know that West Liberty, a Div II school in West Virginia traveled to Northern Iowa where they placed seventh at the National Duals.  Currently they are ranked eighth in the country in Division II with three nationally ranked wrestlers in the lineup; Tom Clark (3rd @ 174), Doug Surra (6th @ 141), and Chris Taylor (7th @197).  They also have three other wrestlers who should contend for All-American status this season, although they currently stand just outside of the rankings.  This team will be great in the coming years and anyone looking to wrestle in college should check them out.

Also former Kentucky state champion Joey Hagedorn is starting at 149.  Joey is a returning national qualifier and has greatly contributed to the team this year.

Congrats West Liberty

Is Stevie Riner in the starting line-up?

No he's currently second string to Lucas Huffman from River High School in Ohio.  Not bad for Steve though, Lucas qualified for nationals last year and will probably be an All-American this year.

Just to let everyone know, West Liberty is currently in second place in the East Regionals, behind Pitt-Johnstown.  Joey Hagedorn (former state champ from Campbell County) is in the semi-finals with a good shot at not only qualifying for nationals with a win tomorrow morning but winning the whole tournament.  Below is a link to the host site.
