I think Wolsiefer would beat both...
and i think Reid would beat Starks...
Starks would beat Reid, but Wolsifer would beat them both....
NO HE WOULDNTStarks would beat Reid, but Wolsifer would beat them both....
i think reid would win over a close match with johnny, and win a close match with starks only cuz hes so much bigger.
reid would beat both, but beat starks by more although starks would beat wolsiefer. weight becomes a big issue.
I don't think the size discrepancy would matter for Wolseifer. Reid is only 10 to 12 pounds heavier than Johnny. I would go with Wolseifer over both Reid & Starks and I would go with Reid over Starks in a close one. Ask Jordan Dockery if being bigger than Wolseifer matters (F.C. vs. Seneca scrimmage earlier this year)
I think Reid is capable of beating both, and i also think Wolsifer is capable of beating both. So i say its a pretty even match up. To me the most impressive wrestler over all between the three of them is Ried.
Did Johnny wrestle Dockery this year at a scrimmage and if so what happened??? :?
From what I understand, and this is hear-say but from a pretty reliable source, Wolseifer and Dockery did wrestle at a scrimmage this year. Johnny took him down three times on a slide-by then finally pinned Dockery.
I don't know what all of you'll are on but Starks would beat both of them. Starks is a better wrestler than Reid and the weight advantage would help him out as well. With Starks at 189 and Wolsiefer at 160 the weight discrepancy would be too much. I do think that pound for pound Wolsiefer is a better wrestler and at the same weight he would win. Between Wolsiefer and Reid, Wolsiefer would win him in a close match. The weight would come into play; Reid looked pretty strong, but Wolsiefer would wear him out.
O.K., as previously stated, I understand Johnny is only a 160 & Starks is a 189. That is a sizeable weight advantage. However, the weight advantage didn't matter to Wolseifer when he wrestled a top 4 215 at a scrimmage earlier this year, so I don't think the weight will matter with Starks. All three are very good wrestlers but Wolseifer has the power and strength of a 189-215 and the speed of a 140-145. He can wrestle a power style or a speed style & wrestle them both very well. That's tough to beat.
I wouldn't say Wolsiefer has the power or strength of a 189-215. To me he looked like a good-sized 160, especially compared to the 160's around the country. Johnny dominates because his confidence is at a high level, no one in the state can beat him and he knows it. Because of that he wrestles all out with now fear and runs through everyone else. Just because he wrestled a top four 215 and beat him early in the year doesn't mean he's as strong as him. I only weigh 170 or so and could beat Byrd when I was home on Christmas break.
So by your last sentence, your saying that size doesn't matter, since you were beating Byrd and you only weigh 170? By that logic, the size difference b/w Wolseifer & Starks wouldn't matter either. Also, yes Johnny is a good sized 160 & not as big as Starks. He doesn't look muscled out. You don't have to be huge to be powerful & strong. From what I saw this weekend, Wolfeiser has better technique than Starks & on the mat, looked to be as strong. It looks like we have differing opinions. It's ashame that we will never get to find out who would win b/w the two. We might, however, get to see who would win this summer b/w Wolseifer & Reid.

wolsifer could take both reid could take starks

Are you still harboring bad feelings about our disagreements a couple of years ago? I hope not, it would be awfully immature if you were.
On the current topic, I still disagree. Wolsifier is the better wrestler but Starks would win.
Wolsiefer would merk both reid and starks
NO HE WOULDNT
I think that Starks would beat Reid without a problem, i see Starks pinning him actually, no more back flips.
Wolsifier beats both him and Reid are close. But Starks loses to Reid in a tight one, and to Wolisfier. I dont think its about hard feelings AllAmerican157, just you are very bias and sometimes proven wrong and never admit it. IMO sorry.

 You gotta be joking on that one. Man, no one gives Reid any respect. Starks is good....but Reid was RELENTLESS throughout state. That kid does not stop. Of course this is just one more person's opinion....but i'd take Reid over both. Not "pound for pound" over Wolsifer...but with the weight & strength, i'd give it to Reid. With Starks...i just don't think his style would do well with Reid. He shoots a lot...and Reid is so stocky and low to the ground....he's gotta be very hard to shoot on.
Will Starks would beat mason reid 10-2 or so cause his strength and starks aint no slouch with technic either he is a good wrestler but i know wolsifer would be beat both have wrestled around with him and he is a animal he is as strong as any 215 in the state or i would go as fare as any heavy wieght
I was taking this as "pound for pound". If so, I'm taking Wolsifer. If not, I'm taking Starks because of the obvious reason of him weighing 189. Thats a bid difference. Plus he is pretty good, don't forget he is a 2x state champ.

I agree Wolsifer pound for pound, no question. I just think Reid would give Starks some fits because of his style and body type. Nothing against Starks. I just seriously doubt it would be a pin. I've been wrong before though.
Ok first let's go pound for pound. I'll take Wolsiefer over both. He's definitely among the elite wrestlers in the state. With Starks and Reid I'll go with Starks, and that's not just with my Woodford bias, as you all know exists. Starks would eat Reid up with his single legs, the only reason he had such a hard time with Mark Jones is that they wrestled so many times.
At their current weights I would take Starks over both. The weight advantage is just too much for Wolsiefer. I know I said that I beat Byrd over Xmas break but I am a college senior who has wrestled Byrd many times, as well as coached him. I know how to exploit his weaknesses. I didn't fully explain my point there. Most 215 pounders are just coming out of football season and Wolsiefer probably just wore him out. With regards to Wolsiefer and Reid I'll take Wolsiefer over him in a tight match. I do think that Reid is a decent wrestler but his strength is his main advantage. Wolsiefer is an animal and his style would wear Reid down until he couldn't walk. He might even pin Reid if he can make him quit at the end of the match, but the score would be close. Unfortunately this style wouldn't wear Starks down because of the extra eighteen pounds.
Personally I would love it if Wolsiefer came to Versailles over the summer and I got the chance to work out with him. I would love to coach an athlete that has the desire that he has.
None of them will win since they are different weights. But I'll say Richard Starks would wup lil brother, then kick some serious tail on all of the above. I'll bet if Richard stays in shape he can even beat the dreaded Murton tag team brothers that beat the Killer Whale and Grizzly Bear.

Your attempt to be funny failed.
Not really trying to be funny Penguin so much as point out that theres no way to determine who really has the most valid opinion here. The whole topic is hypothetical and we'll never know who is really the better between the three. The best we can do is respect each of their accomplishments for what they are and not diminish them by trying to say someone at a different weight is really the best. They are all CHAMPS at their weight!Your attempt to be funny failed.
Wolsiefer defenitly. Right now he has to be the best hands down wrestler in Kentucky. When he is having a good day his technique is flawless.

Thanks penguin. :-D

i dont know about that but starks would have not won state if the ture winner of the kelly and jones match would have wrestled. I know kelly would have killed starks in the fianls i think he may have even pinned starks.
ive been waiting for someone to say that...kelly is a BEAST ofa sophomore!i dont know about that but starks would have not won state if the ture winner of the kelly and jones match would have wrestled. I know kelly would have killed starks in the fianls i think he may have even pinned starks.
If Kelly is the kid from Sheldon Clark I'll agree he is a beast. However part of the wrestling match is conditioning and during that match I believe he was dead tired. I also think I saw him pretty tired in another match as well. If Starks would have been able to weather the early storm, which I think he would have, then in the third period it would have been lights out, not a pin but a decisive victory.
I don't think kelly was tired, I think he may have been injured( if the match you are talking about is the semifinal at state)
I have to say Starks would have handled Kelly quite handily I have seen Kelly wrestle quite a bit over the years and i dont think his gas tank is near big enough for someone like starks who gets stronger as the match goes on.
kelly can push his self when it means alot i saw him at grundy this year when it came time to push he fisined strong and won i do think kelly would kill starks and if you watch both of them like i have you would think the same thing

I agree with this. I don't know if he would kill Starks, but I think he would win. That kid is amazing for a sophomore. I wish I could havd seen him in the finals. Maybe next year.
Kelly could have possibly been state champ. He was winning by like what 4 against Jones?
He still wouldn't have beat Starks.
He still wouldn't have beat Starks.
yeah kelly would did you even watch the fanils this year starks was having a hard time with jones. kelly beat jones that all to be said b\if he dind't hurt his arm ryan kelly would be a state champion right now
Yes I watched the finals and the only reason the score was close between the two is because they have wrestled each other so many times. Starks would have beaten Kelly.
jones knows what to do not to let starks score on him thats why the score was so close in the finals but starks would pick apart the brute strength of ryan kelly and i would say starks would beat him 8-2 or so
Kelly is tough noone can disagree , but Starks just keeps going no matter what. His conditioning was questionable at first when he came back from injury but after a week or two it was like he never missed a beat,He just gets stronger as the match goes on.And plain and simple he knows how to take a kid down very well and with extreme prejudice.
Overtimeking where were you during the State Tournament? Why are you always putting SC wrestlers down? Starks and Kelly did not meet up this season. Would have been a great match, Like to have seen it. Both are great wrestlers. Kelly will bounce back from his injury and be ready for Jones next year.
They are both capable of beating one another, and as we all know wrestling is all about who wrestles better that particular day. But if I had to bet (which I do not do) I would go with Kelly suprising a lot of people.
I think the reason kelly beat jones is simple. They both wrestle upper body . Jones is a staller and just looks for a big move. When jones went for a single kelly tossed him to his back . Jones can't beat someone as big as kelly without actually wrestling. And I know will would have destroyed kelly just based on a style clash. will would have taken him down many times. Kelly's only chance would be to hit a throw. And i don't see that happening.
I'll agree that Kelly gave Jones a Great match and may have won it had he not been injuried, But I wouldn't have counted Jones out until the final second was gone. He has won a few in the last seconds from behind. I personally think Jones was surprised with Kelly's strengh. As far as Kelly having any moves, I didn't see many. Most of his point were from Jones attemping a move on him. That was the first time they had wrestled each other. I don't think Jones will make the same mistakes twice.

You cant say what if...they didnt wrestle. Mark Jones won and then lost to Will. Plain and simple Will Starks is your state champ at 189. This thread has nothing to do w/ Ryan Kelly its about Jones, Reid, and Starks or so I assumed from the title?? :?

Wolsifer-reid-starks.... thats what this is about.
IMO I would take Starks over Reid , dont get me wrong but Reid hasnt really done anything to impress me I mean hes beaten some decent quality wrestlers but so has Starks, also Starks is very solid on his feet that is where he would pick Reid apart and wear him down, and I think it would be a very close match on their feet between Wolseifer and Starks because they are both very solid on their feet that one is a toss up

well after you read this go give your boyfrined will a kiss because he knows he got very lucky this year that kelly didnt get a hold of him

Sounds like sour grapes to me. I think you're the one that needs the kiss to make you feel better.

well i would say beating rupp by 14, and florence by 10 or 11 is pretty impressive. pinning in the state finals is pretty impressive. his only losses were to a state placer in ohio this year. and yes, starks is good on his feet, but where do you think reid's bread-n-butter is at? its on his feet, definitely the quickest upperweight this year, without a doubt.
ya last year starks never came close to techin rupp, jones only beat rupp by a few t his year didnt he

No, he pinned him at KOB
