It all depends on the conference. Each one is different. For ex: Big Ten has I think 66 qualifiers, 6 per weight plus wild cards. Thats what it used to be. Other conferences such as the Southern Conf. might be champion plus a few wildcards, 10-13 maybe. It is weighted according to how they finish at NCAA's. Several All Americans will come from the Big Ten.
Other Divisions are different. NAIA can qualify more than one wrestler per weight class up to ?, you could have teammates wrestling in the finals against each other.
The Big Ten had 72 qualifiers last year.
Top 7 and 2 wild cards go.
So then how likely would it be for Ruschell to go/
Ruschell should have already qualified. Semi's puts him in top 6. www.intermatwrestle.com bracket update.
He should wrestle again this afternoon.
Kyle Ruschell just beat the #1 ranked guy to make his way into the finals of the Big Ten Wrestling Tournament in East Lansing, MI!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D
It was a very decisive victory and aside from Mena's theatrics about the most interesting match of the session. Keep showing the nation what our Bluegrass boys are capable of, Kyle! You're our hero!!!!

Awesome Job, Kyle!!
I'm assuming he beat Rivera from Minny, who he lost to by 2 not long ago.
What's the story with Mena, and his "theatrics"?
Does anyone know how Kyle did in the finals? I think the finals were suppose to start today around 12 or 1.
Kyle lost to Ryan Lang(currently #1) in the finals 5-1

Automatic Qualifier Memorandum (PDF):
Ruschell lost in the finals 5-1. Still, not too bad for a freshman from Kentucky.
As for Mena's antics, Escobedo was in on a head inside shot, split the middle, and when the Iowa wrestler leached onto his back, he stacked him back on his shoulders. He was flat a few times but not long enough for the fall. Escobedo lost the match and Mena shouted at the ref, probably offering a few choice words, stamped off the mat, pushed over a gatorade cooler, and kicked over a training bag. He proceeded to go out to the middle of the mat for the next match at 133 (on the same mat) to slap his wrestler in the face a time or two and offer some extra motivation. That Iowa intensity...
