KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2007/2008 Pre-season April 11

Topic ID: 2235 | 81 Posts

Okay, Pat Lee came through for us so I better post an update.  Plus, I don't think I can sit on this any longer.  I went to top 25 (pretty suspect at some weights) with a few blanks on some.  Enjoy!

kevin cooper from simon kentons middle school team will be a seventh grader next year and might come up and wrestle for the varsity next year

What about the Holmes boy?

Their 112 from last year Brandon Whren.  Will he be wrestling again next year?  Has he returned from his injury?

He was second at the NKAC last year and was pretty good last year.

Is he not on your rankings because he is not returning?

If he does return it would be an amazing story, but I'm not sure he will make it back.  Plus, unfortunately if he is able to return I'm not sure he will be back where he left off.  He has missed a lot of workout time.

on the 152 pound rankings the guy that is ranked 8 i think his name is Ethan Whitt  Preston Shoopman should be 8 enstead of him becouse preston always beat him and he has never beatin preston i think u need to fix them

I should be on the 152 list. I'm way better than I was last season. I've beat a few of your boys that are on there. I usually develope alot more during the offseason than during the season. It'll show at the end of November.

hey ranger how am i not ranked at 112. i can beat Chris Barrett ranked 16th, the guy that pinned him in 30 seconds could only beat me by 3 points. well that ever you think i'll be up there as so as season starts

I'd like to see your magic formula Ranger because you only have 3 guys from Woodford placing but yet they will finish 6th team wise..

Wow. You guys need too calm down. Its preseason, Ranger did these cause everyone was anxious too see them and in return you bombard him with "why am I not up there?". That is ridiculous.. its like 7 months away from the season. RELAX!

ok my bad ranger, good rankings by the way

Hey Ranger I beat Johnny last night in my back yard.

I also beat joe who beat sam who pinned josh.

I only lost to sammy by a couple of points and he like killed all the kids ranked above me.

I'm also dating Debbie who is Kurt's sister and he is showing me all kind of new moves.  I've also beaten Debbie and she barely losses to Kurt. :? :?

C'mon I should at least be in the top five according to this.

haha...good one..ranger thanks again for puttin your time in to this..and other guys dont complain about not bein on the rankins use that on tha mat n show why u should b ranked

I'm not complaining about not being ranked. I didn't do anything last season to deserve being ranked. I'm just saying that i'm ready to roll next season. Alot of guys set goals to win tournies, which I do too, but I also look forward to seeing my name on the list and getting some recognition. That day won't come until next season though.

I'd like to see your magic formula Ranger because you only have 3 guys from Woodford placing but yet they will finish 6th team wise..

Yeah, I know.  But I'm telling you it is all formula driven.  It's not like I have a special Woodford County bonus point system.  They actually have 4 "medalists" (Parks, Lewis, Courtney, and Sheehan) and 4 others scoring points.

I agree myssie, but right now it is very difficult for me to gauge where they will be next season.  I'm sure many of them will improve by leaps and bounds, but it will take a little time to figure out where they fit into the picture.

tyler martin from hopkinsville beat cyle martinson in 112. he pinned him in the second or third period.

:-D :-D  I love it, Ranger always has the answer.  The rankings look great, thanks for putting in the time to do these Ranger.  It's pretty cool how much these rankings stir the pot.

Alright, It should be interesting to see if Woodford can pull through with a tough top 3 team like the past 10, 15 years or will they go downhill as like so many top teams do when they reach there peak.

As per the topic a few months back.

It's not just that Woodford has reached its peak.  It is the fact that Rusty Parks was the glue of the team.

With all due respect to Joe Sr. and Jr. I believe they are great mat coaches, but Woodford needs that calm deliberate mind to keep the team in step.

Ranger, Kevin Porter will beat Ryan Tingle. I'll bet anything on it. The kid is gonna be awsome next year. I wrestled Tingle and I train with Porter. Porter might be another Central guy to step up and make it to the finals with Peace.

Porter was beaten pretty handily by Mikal McNeely of Eastern and Tingle beat Mikal pretty easily too. It could just a clash of styles. But still, i just don't see Porter beating Tingle

I understand what you mean by the styles. But i've wrestled both of them personally. We're workin' on very specific techniques for Porter that utilize his long frame. He's gonna come in next year with some devistating new technique.

This season will be tough for them, but I think the real test for the Carrs will be 2008-2009.  They will still have Courtney to lead them, but they lose Shane Parks, Coty Lewis, Chad Scott, Blake Sheehan, Ethan Miller, and KT Routt.  And I'm not sure I see the depth to replace them right now.  At least not to the point of Woodford challenging for a title like they are accustomed to.

Shhhhh!!!  Quiet guys, don't wake a sleeping giant.  I'm not sure what their feeder program looks like, but I don't imagine it would be too hard to find about 10 or more state champs to help coach a pretty good youth & m.s. program there.

Region 7 Duals should be quite interesting with Woodford and Harrison, not to mention Lafayette. Its looking quite good for Harrison and Lafayette. Harrison and Woodford are falling apart though after 160 with no one ranked. Harrison has a few upcomers in the heavier divison though, but woodford always has something to show. It will be a good duals this year.

Dodd Kinder at 215 from tc is only going to be in 10th grade next year this year he was a freshmen :-D

Ranger, if your predictions are right then I feel bad for anyone wrestling 160 next season. IT'S FREAKIN' STACKED!!!

how do you have Trinity after Union County. Union only has 8 or 9 guys ranked Trinity was all 14 guys ranked

how do you have Trinity after Union County. Union only has 8 or 9 guys ranked Trinity was all 14 guys ranked

Actually, 12 Union Wrestlers are ranked. 8 of these are predicted to place. 3 people placing second, 2 placing 3rd, 2 placing 5th, and one placing 8th. Not to mention their 119,145,152, and 215 scoring points.

Trinity has 14 wrestlers ranked. Only 5 are predicted to place. 1 first place, 1 2nd place, 2 4th place, and 1 5th place. Granted Trinity will earn points from a few other wrestlers if you look at alot of there "ranked" people aren't very high and might not score points for them.

All in all Union seems like the obvious choice especially since they only lost 3 seniors which they don't seem to be hurting to fill them in.

Exactly where I was going Bear.  It should be a good race for the title, assuming all works out as expected.

how come i'm ranked behind caleb schneider i wrestled him three times this year and beat all three times by a pretty decent margin. Or are you ranking these people by how they did at state? Then i understand why he is

Yes, his performance at state bumped him up quite a bit.  He can make the same argument as he beat Bontrager.

There is one wrestler on the Union squad that is young but is very underrated. Caleb Ervin. He recently placed 5th at the middle school indiviual nationals(1 of 2 from Ky to become all-americans, him and John Fahy) and 5th at Danville middle school national duals(best record of any KY middle school state champ 5-2). This offseason he beat Terrance Demery of North Hardin at the Union Co. Dan Gable Tournament and from my personal experience wrestling with him and his older brother Isaac, Caleb is much more talented as a freshman than Isaac was 2 years ago and Isaac placed 3rd that year at 119. Caleb has practiced for 4 years with the high school and the only obstacle keeping him from having high school experience already is a district rule in Union Co. that doesn't allow anyone under 9th grade to participate in high school sports. If that rule wasn't in affect, then who knows, Adam or Aaron Carr might not have had a varsity spot this year.

how and why is everyone getting so fat. Brad Hitchings - ?171? :|

Sometimes wrestlers move up in weight because they spend alot of time in the weight room vs. at the kitchen table!!!  Also, the weights wrestlers are ranked at right now are speculation only.  Especially with the younger wrestlers who are growing.  Brad Hitchings wrestled 104 as a 6th grader, 124 as an 7th grader, 140 as an 8th grader, and 152 as a freshman and has never cut weight in his life.  He is up to 164 right now and no doubt will weigh 170-175 next year.  The formula of lifting weights hard and not cutting weight seems to work for him.

Thats awesome.  Union Co. is doing everything right these days....wish I lived closer to work out or coach with them.

It is a national tournament with 60 man brackets and only 1 day of competition. Jarvis Elam couldn't make it due to a wedding in his family. Demery is a very tough wrestler.  That is impresive.  Union County should change their mascot from the braves to the union county Ervins and the mascot could just be a clan of little wrestlers than run in packs.  These guys are rediculously good at developing young wrestlers.  I wish I could sit in on one practice just to see what they do day in and day out that is so effective.

I train with the kid. He weighs like 114 and he's losing weight. He's not starving himself. I thought the same thing you did. But his weight is where it should be if he wants to go twelve. I think he could get down easily by next season. He has plenty of time to cut the weight.

Also, Howard Brim is seriously considering wrestling 171 next season, Ranger. So, for your next rankings, you can move him if you want.

Hes probably gonna wrestle 119 for the first half of the year, then wait until the 2 pounds come in. Im almost positive he'll be at 112.

How heavy is Brim getting..? At the clinic at Fern Creek he looked and felt really light to be considering wrestling 171 next year.

He usually weighs in the low to mid 60's. He can put on weight. You also have to consider his strategic angle too. Have you seen how stacked 160 is? lol. He wants to place and place high. I think, if he works like he has been, that he can achieve this.

how does that team practice? at region all the wrestlers were really out of shape. they were dead by end of 2nd period.

Okay, Pat Lee came through for us so I better post an update.  Plus, I don't think I can sit on this any longer.  I went to top 25 (pretty suspect at some weights) with a few blanks on some.  Enjoy!

Guys I am telling you ohio county is tough and there team is only going to get better we have nevr lost to henderson and there ranked the only team that can beat us in the region is union county another thing adam lynch is underrated at 125 dustin thomas beat him in triple overtime by 1point and adam is 23 while dustin thomas is like 14th

I'm sure Ryan Kelly has not beaten Mark Jones in two years, so what formula do you have that ranks him above the kid. The rankings should not reflect what we think will occur, but what has actually occured. That ranking continues to not make sence to me. If were are basing it off state finish, and head to head, then the results don't lie. I am refering to the comment about the formula and Woodford County, does this same premise not apply to other finishers?

Did you watch their match at state?  I did and I would put him at #1.

I watched the match, and the match was closer than you all think. Jones scored 4 points, all of which were negated due to Kelly's injury time when he yelled out twice. The ref was right to stop the match at the time, but not to award the points, i don't agree with. I do agree that Kelly was dictating the match, but not winning based on the points when you factor in everything that happened. I will reclarify my earlier statement, so you understand my point better. On paper Kelly has never beaten Jones, and just because we think we know or can predict what would of happened, how can we deny what actually occured. If the rankings are formula driven, what formula based on the records against each other yeilds a result ranking Kelly above Jones. Look at the logic of the numbers.

Iotaman

Yeah, I know. But I'm telling you it is all formula driven. It's not like I have a special Woodford County bonus point system. They actually have 4 "medalists" (Parks, Lewis, Courtney, and Sheehan) and 4 others scoring points.

what about newport they have 5 ranked kids as a two year team and i expect most of them to place next year. i heard they have been practicing at mason high school two days a week.

i also heard that newport's 112, 160, 189, and there 215 pounders qulafied for the border wars national tournament up in michigan, and there 112 pounder is trying to make 103.  :-o

After talkin' to him today and hearing his weight, I doubt Dakoda Choate will be 160. He will be no higher than 152. He may be as low as 140-145. Or atleast that's what he said.

at 103 luke troxell will only be an 8th grader next year and he is already ranked in the top 8 cant wait to see him wrestle in high school he will be phenomonal...preston shoopman should be ranked higher than 15th at 152 .. i wouldnt be suprised to see him make 145 next season....and tanen roe at 215 should be ranked in the top 8 atleast ...he was ranked 4th at 189 last year before he got injured and i wouldnt be suprised to see him try to make 189 again next year

that's like the eighth grader. soon to be ninth grader from prp. William Northington. ranked 9th at 145 starting his high school career.2nd in regions last year should have gotten first but tore something in his knee preventing that. but next year, he's really going to show up next year. look out

Northington is 160 lbs of nothing but muscle. I see it being

145-Choate

152-Stengel

160-Northington

That's not definate but it looks like that's gonna be the best weights for those people.

ok first off shane white will be staying in middle school , in my opinion. he is still too young to step it up to the next level. He needs another Middle School state title. and having Blake Shehan ranked 7th is a real understatement.

and having Blake Shehan ranked 7th is a real understatement.

Who were his big wins against last year?  I would put him 6th with Dillon in the 5th position. and Brownfield 7th.

I only saw him in two matches last season. Banks-first period fall [i'm pretty sure] and Ervin-[First period fall].

New Rankings Please...  :? :? :?

The team scores are formula driven, not individual.  And since we are talking about pre-season rankings, yes, they are very much about what we think will happen.  I agree that much consideration should be given to real results, but a lot can and will happen in the off-season for guys to get better and others to get fat and out of shape.  I saw the Kelly-Jones match and in my opinion Kelly was the better wrestler at state.

Well... I really dont see how you can put  D.C Evans over Daniels. Daniels beat Evans really bad at Wayne County Tour. God Evans has lost to all three of waynes lighter guys Sullivan - a lot Vinsant - 2 or 3 Daniels- 5 or 6 lol where can he go to win anything?????????

Did you watch their match at state?  I did and I would put him at #1.

I do not think that Mark Jones cares about ranking he just want a state title and I'm sure that he is going to show everyone that he is the number 1 wrestler in his weight class

Ranger this is just an Idea but since most of the off season tournament are freestyle maybe you could put together some offseason freestyle rankings. It would be fun and it would help keep wrestlers motivatted to compete in the offseason. like i said its just an idea and i know it would be hard to follow all the freestyle tourneys but it would still be fun. thanks

It would be cool to have some Kentucky FS/GR State Tourny predictions after pre-registration [if there is one].
