So you think Wheeler would have easily beaten Choate.  I could definitely see it happening.  Wheeler really gave Johnny a run for his money at state.  But why was he facing Wolseifer in the 2nd round?  It was because he lost to Wolfe in the Regional finals.  I believe Choate was 3-0 against Wolfe this year.  Choate is a good wrestler he is just not real flashy.  Be careful not to underestimate him.

I know. Alot of people are puttin' Deon above Derek. I could understand it maybe if the match was close but Derek flat out dominated. No way will Chaney beat him next season.

Yes Derek did dominate in the Stat Finals where it matters most.  But Deon did beat Derek at the King of the Bluegrass last year.  Deon can wrestle alot better than he did in State Finals.

Wow where are all the region 6 boys???? :? :-o

You have got to give these kids some consideration (I know some have been mentioned)

Robbie Vaugh 112-119 (Depending where certain wrestlers go he can beat some tough kids)

Dusty Brown 135 (has been mentioned)

Cory Shotwell 135-140 (Was considered maybe a possible state champ last year and now no one is mentioning him)

Brian Peace 140-145 (No brainier)

Kyle Griffith 140-145 (Another kid that can beat some tough competition.)

Ryan Vaughn 152-160 (Wrestled well last year at 160 because Cooper was at 152)

Ryan Dillon 152-160 (Tough competitor can defeat anyone at any time, very dangerous)

Tom Brownfield 160-171 (Another Campbell boy that can win some tough matches)

Mason Reid 171 (No Brainer)

Tony Turner Hwt (A big boy that can make things happen in the top wt. class)

Billy Fuller Hwt (Another opportunist, but can also make things happen)

I saw Dusty Brown up at Trinity and he'll be one of the guys to beat next season. He has improved noticably.

A couple of others to mention.

Ben Winkler (SK)

Ilg (Newport) 189

Benson (Dixie) 189 (I thought he graduated but it only lists him as a JR.)

im glad to see someone put ryan kelly over mark jones. He only was beating jones by like 8 points before his elbow was dislocated and someone needs to put Dials top 3 at 215

What is the argument for Dials being top 3?

i think i did put dials at third

I'm glad to see someone put Ryan Kelly over mark Jones. He only was beating Jones by like 8 points before his elbow was dislocated and someone needs to put Dials top 3 at 215

Well I'll tell you this, like eveyone else i put him on his back. The last time i check the video tape I would have got a five point move, but the match was stop because he yelled out in pain and no points were giving. Let see, i would have let him up which would have gave him a four point lead. then i did it again with the same move. it would have been a five point move again, which lets see puts me up one point. also I put him on his back which would have been the end of the match like the year before when i pinned him. but, lets see his arm gets dislocated. Wow part of the sport things happen. so think what you want, just wait until next year and we will see what happens.

I'm sure Kelly can't wait.  UNFINISHED BUSINESS.

The making of a true champion.  A person who can overcome a deficit and win in the end.  Just like in the Sullivan-Evans match.  The winner is the one who gets his hand raised no matter what the score was in the beginning.

I'm sure Kelly can't wait.  UNFINISHED BUSINESS.

Funny anyways im not going to get into it with you over a computer so i will just show you all

Mitch will be 152/154 and L. Ervin is going 130/132. That should change the top 3. Wempe will be back at 125.

It blows me away that anyone would doubt Harrison Courtney or underestimate him.  He has been thorougly tested the past 2 years and came out victorious.  There are 1 or 2 guys pound for pound that could hang with him in Ky.  That's it.  Nothing against Choate, but he won't stand a chance against Courtney.

yeah you got a good point

That baffles me, I cant believe someone would think Choate would beat Courtney... In case you have forgot, Harrison Courtney, as a freshmen, won the toughest weight class in the state by far, and one of the toughest ever.

I don't know. Me and Choate have been preparin' for Courtney. I've been spottin' him while he does 12 oz curls. He usually does 6-12 sets and falls asleep. lol

ok  i like the Choate kid but lets all look at this here i may not be a big woodford fan but he has no chance in   beating Courtney.

We'll see when next season rolls around.

We'll see when next season rolls around.

im with danger on this one now i can see Choate beating him in state but not right now, Courtney would win no problem, but i think Choate has a good chance if he keeps practicing hard

I honestly dont think Courtney will lose in Kentucky for the rest of his career.

We have 3 people in the state that may be unstopable next year.

Sullivan

Peace

Courtney

Woliefer can be on the list if he returns to his Jr. year form.  He just did not look that impresive at state last year.

I'd like to see wolfe vs. wolsifer. I think it will be a close match. Sullivan will have a monkey on his back next year with evans. He's already come out and said hes going where ever sullivan is. HELLO???? Courtney unstoppable??? Last time i checked Mitch Ervin is the defending 152 state champ. Ervin has alot of similarities with Courtney though it will be a close match. Both are mat wrestlers, very experienced leg riders with their long legs and arms. I give Mitch the slight edge though because he's better off of his feet. Courtney doesn't have a cakewalk by far.

Peace will have some competition next year also with Miller having very similar style. Ervin who is very much like his older brother mitch will long legs and arms might throw off peaces short stocky agressive style. ashbroke you cannot forget might be his toughest match i garuntee this kid will be workin his tail off in the off season.

yeah im with you Bear and Elliott Martin will be unstopable too

"I'd like to see wolfe vs. wolsifer. I think it will be a close match." Wolsiefer killed him this year at KOB

Courtney will beat Ervin like.. 8-2, 10-2. I dont think anyone remembers that the 2006 145 weight class was absolutely stacked, Ervin placed 6th that year, when Courtney went on to win it.

I just looked it up on KHSAA.  Ervin lost to Banks 11-4 then forfieted the rest of the way out.  He must have gotten hurt in the match with Banks.

he wrestled either last year or the year before w/ a broken ankle then ended up breaking the other one at state.

Last time I checked Courtney is a 2x state champ and ranked 10th in the country, and placed 3rd at nationals?

hes ranked 10th among sophmores. but you cannot say he'll dominate. just look at similar opponents like mitch vs. banks 6-4, courtney vs. banks 4-2. mitch is doing nothing but growing if you see the state results last year banks beat mitch 11-4 the comes back beats him this year.

yeah im with you Bear and Elliott Martin will be unstopable too

I think Elliot better stay at 103 if he wants to be unstoppable because Sullivan would not be beat by Martin. Also if Evans does make it back to `112 he too would beat Elliot, but I am not sure he will make it I heard he was well into the 130's.

your crazy Matin is beater the Evens and probably beater the Sullivan

Like an egg beater?

E.Martin is a good wrestler but he would get beat by sullivan and evans..evans would jus over power martin and take away elliott quickness..sullivan would prolly do the same..but both evans and sullivan would beat martin

Ok first of all, I have loads of respect for Ervin and Courtney. Second of all, ya Ervin is growing, but so is Courtney, 2x state champ. Third of all, Ervin is the one trying to catch Courtney. And Courtney beat Banks 4-2 in the finals of his freshmen year, Ervin beat banks 6-4 his junior year. Fourth of all, 10th among sophmores is still awesome, especially being a middle weight. I dont think they will even be in the same weight class though. Ok, im done, and good luck to Ervin and Courtney, it would be an awesome match.

what yall are crazy

Yeah what Martin were you watching that you think he can beat Evans or Sullivan. I think he probably would have gotten fourth at best at 112 last year. He would not have beaten little Voth either. Martin is a great wrestler but not ready for these three just yet.

Martin would beat Voth and maybe Evans, I dont know about Sullivan. Martin is an all american.

yeah im not to sure about Martin beating Sullivan but i know he can beat Voth and Evens

E.Martin is a good wrestler but he would get beat by sullivan and evans..evans would jus over power martin and take away elliott quickness..sullivan would prolly do the same..but both evans and sullivan would beat martin

u r drunk elliot will run circles around sullivion.

Ok, im done, and good luck to Ervin and Courtney, it would be an awesome match.

it's going to be a good match. cant wait to see them underneath the lights. banks, courtney, ervin, wolsifer round robbin. for the lower sullivan, evans, zarth, martin. gives me goosebumps thinkin of these matchups

Was you even watching the state finals at 112 last year. Evans beat Sullivan hands down for two 1/2 periods. Had he just stalled out and rode Sullivan he would have won by more then five (not sure of the score). Sullivan only beat Voth by a couple earlier that year as well. Martin is an all american at 103 there is a huge difference in these two weight classes. 103 was a joke last year outside of Bradbury and Martin. I am not saying Martin cant hang with these guys but what I am saying is he is not ready for either of these three. Hopefully we will see depending on everybodies weight next year.

I agree these are all great match-ups. If Zarth stays 119 he will not be touched next year by Sullivan Evans or who ever. IMO

yes all of this is true but you cant tell me Martin aint going to have a chance to bet these guys,  i hear Voth will be 125 and i think Sullivan will be 112 again and Evans will be 119 and so will Martin but im not sure all thats going to be true, but you cant say Martin aint going to be right there with those guys

Don't get me wrong I agree with you that he can probably hang with any of them, I just don't see him beating them right now. He really needs to put on some muscle in order to be able to wrestle any heavier then 103. I don't think he can handle Zarth, he is just way to strong and don't forget he won the toughest weight class last year prety soundly.

Evans is inconsistent, he hasnt convinced me just yet. Sullivan beats him like 9 times, and one time Sullivan has a bad match, but still pins him. I agree he was getting man handled though, but its all about who comes out on top. Sullivan, Martin, and Evans are all pretty close, it would be awesome matches.

well yeah Martin should bolk up alittle but hes going to be awesome

Just for the record martin beat evans when he weighed 89 pounds wrestling 103 his sophomore year, almost pinned him. you are all in for a shock with martin. He has been wrestling MUCH better competition this summer than evans or sullivan, guaranteed. By the way zarth will be lucky to come in 4th at 119 next year. Martin and sullivan will tear him up, probably evans too. Zarth didn't look impressive at nationals.

thank you but Zarth will be going 125

Are you serious?  Tear him up?  It's one thing to predict the 103 is going to bump up to 119 and beat the state champ, but tear him up, I don't see it.  Sounds to me like some sour grapes after that clinic in the state finals.

Very big talk for the middle of July, not sure anyone needs those kind of expectations established for them especially during the middle of summer when hardly anyone is on the mat to prove anything.

yeah i'm serious. At junior nationals I saw Martin beating state champs, even pinning them. Then I saw zarth get teched twice at sophpmore nationals, because he wrestled scared, he was good enough to compete, he folds when a tough kid pushes him. Chui didn't push zarth, sullivan and martin will, and i expect the same result unless he turns a corner.

I really like Elliot Martin, I have been able to watch him since he was in middle school and I think he has improved as much as any high school wrestler.

I see on the results page for NHSCA Elliot pinned one opponent from VA, who may have very well been the State Champ from VA, and I am impressed with Elliot's performance at NHSCA, he did very well at that level of competition.

Has he been to other Nationals and beat top ranked kids?

yeah Martin is by far the best light weight out there right now

I dont think he almost pinned Evans from my recollection Evans was beating him pretty bad and got caught high with his legs in. Better competition maybe at a much lighter weight so that is kind of a joke. Zarth would own Martin and that is a fact. Zarth and Evans wrestled last year with Zarth winning by two, but a very good match it was. I am pretty sure Elliot was like 100 pounds not 89 so lets not exaggerate here. I agree with the other posts that  this is July and make the predictions all you want but we will see come February. All of these guys are good wrestlers and this is the order I would put them based on last years performances, Zarth- too strong and won the toughest weight at state hands down. Sullivan- has not been beat in 3 years, plan on him going 112 to protect that record. Evans-improving every match but yes inconsistent but too very strong. Martin possibly the most technical but needs to put on some real muscle to compete with any of these three, if he gets stronger he could be in the mix.

I have to agree with Prowler, they are all good but the man to beat in the lightweights has to be Sullivan, his 3 yr record speaks for itself.

I like Zarth because he's young and his Coach is one of the best, so I expect he will get better each year.

Shawn112,

What kind of competition has Martin been wrestling this summer that you keep referring to? Not doubting you, just curious where he has been wrestling?

some of the very best in the country, they are not 103's, an he is winning, i'll leave it at that

1. Deon Chaney(FERN)

2. Derek Nickel(DOSS)

3. Matt Green(LAF)

hey didnt DEREK NICKEL beat Deon Chaney ?? so how you got  him 2 JW

but if i am not mistaken, matt green beat nickel twice last year so it is a toss up in this weight class.  you cant go wrong with any picks
