His name is Bo Usary he has been at 130 this season so far with 1 loss to the state runnerup to him last year in overtime. 8)
yea usary is good i watched him beat parks in the semis last year in overtime and beat thuenaman in the finals..he's tough!
Ill have to say 140 will be Thuenemann and Murton
What time does WCI start on Thursday?
Is there any brackets or seeding available to look at for WCI?
Someone please post results as they happen. What a great tournament. 8)

I'm pretty sure it was 17-2
What happened to Wood at 119.What about Parks,Veach at 125.Was science hill there,if so how did usary do?
Wood didn't wrestle, Parks got beat by Ben Warner and ended u getting 3rd I believe, Science Hill wasn't there and I don't know about Veach.
Top 3 teams was..
Woodford
South Oldham
Seneca
Eck got fourth in that weight class behind Parks.
Interesting tournament....I think I learned acouple things this weekend at WCI.
I wonder if Murton is going to stay at 135 and if he does, who is the first to leave that tuff 145 weight class?
Coty Lewis is a man at 112, pinned Luna, really wasn't close. He'll pin or tech his way through 112.
Scott really impressed me, Warner looked tuff against Parks then got man handled against Scott. Again not really close, I think 7-2?
Shane Parks has really come to age. If anyone hasn't seen him wrestle yet, its fun.
Shearer(?) and Byrd are fun to watch everytime.
Voth looked really good at 119, can't wait to see him against Wood. I'll thinking upset....
Wolsiefer is a man. So is Courtney. Both so young. Great, great futures.
There are some really weak weight classes this year. Not to dog on anyone, but 130, 135 and 160 are really bad.
Woodford had three starting wrestlers out. 119(sick), 140(hand) and 160(knee), and still won by almost 50 points. They are going to be hard to beat come Feb.
Those are just my thought, good tourney to watch.
What was the score of the Butler/Jackson match, anyone know ? Has Butler wrestled Wasson from Harrison Co this year yet ? Just curious as to how evenly matched those two are.
The Scott/Warner match played out about exactly how i called that one ... only thing that surprised me (only mildly) is Parks losing to Warner.
The Butler/Jackson match was really close, tied about the whole way. Butler had Jackson on his back twice just to have him revearse him to his back. I think Butler won by 2 points late.
The Warner/Parks match wasn't ever close. Warner won 14-7, controling most of the way. Thought he would of gave Scott a better match.
Scott, in my opinion, should have gotten MOW. But of course Murton got it in a real bad weight class.??
Butler has already beaten Wasson this year.
thanks ... was it even or a comfortable win ?
*malcom jackson dislocated his collar bone in his championship match, so on a different day when a ref will call potentially dangerous for a kid over cranking a half with legs in, you can expect a way different outcome.
*Derek Scott looked impressive as he literally controlled warner. I see him winning state again.
*Taylor scherer had his hands full with i think Matt Byrd. Tight match until the end! look forward to watching the rematch.
*Voth literally planted murner with a spladle, it was really impressive and even more shocking. Look for him to probably be in the finals in his class.
*poor Ben Rupp, woodford county ref gave him the shaft big time. any body there knows he won that match. Honestly is there any way to appeal a refs calls, or him personally? I mean that was a state championship match pretty much, and a ref needs to understand what a take down is and when to award for established control. I understand reffing isn't easy but this call was as clear as daylight. Something needs to be done.
invincy33,
dude you're right about Ben Rupp. He was ahead practiclly the whole match and when starks shot on him when it was like 5 seconds lift they landed outside of the circle and starks didn't even have control. he had bens legs but ben had his head. so it was still neutral. I saw that alot however how woodford kids got favored alot.it was nothing but some home cooking for the woodford kids. thanks man i'm glad to kno that someone saw that and shares the same point of view with me.
Who were all the winners?
Here we go down that road again...home cookin' talk! That might have been a bad call, but do think for one minute think that ref cares who wins a match at 171? Come on, lets grow up. Woodford won that tournament by over 50 points not because some refs wanted them to or they got "home cooking". Teams like Larue and Woodford win because they are more talented than everyone else. Period.
Lets all start growing up and get off the refs' back. Its like any other sport, they are human and make mistakes but all and all do a good job.
If that Eastern kid got a bad call, then maybe that will motivate him the next time they wrestle?
JustWrestle,
Thanks for being a voice of reason and for detailed results for those of us who couldn't make it..I was suprised at R. Parks performance and not by Shane's...that little sucker is tough and gettin tougher by the match...dare I say state-champ??
WC will only turn it up from here on out...look for a dominating performance in Feb...probably gonna break the pts. record (for 32 man bracket) state duals should be interesting though as it seems somthing always keeps WC from winnin them all.
I did see alot of calls in Woodford's favor all day, but regardless they would've still won the tournament, but for individuals sake I believe there was quite a few bad calls.
And while I like the way Shane wrestles I don't think he will beat Traiv Sullivan at 103..Maybe a finals appearance or a high placing but I don't think he can beat Sullivan..
I agree that the refs maybe werent favored but still, something needs to be done. However i can say that WCI is a little tilted. My senior year I was undefeated, ranked 2 in state and seeded 4TH in thier Tournament! as a matter a fact, behind two guys i had previously beaten. This was no mistake, the idealogy was for corey qualls ( WC) to be seated 3rd so he could catch an easier semi's match with Koleva from eastern. Ofcourse he won and Made it to the finals, when really he couldn't beat me (#4 seed) nor the #1 seed from tennessee that i beat in the finals.
The woodford county tournament is a really competitive tournament, but i cant say that it goes without bias.
rusty though is a great wrestler and is in yet again in one of the tougher weight classes in the state. dont count any of the woodford boys out of anything..it seems they turn it up when they color their hair blonde! lol and for the bad calls yes ref's do make mistakes and you have to put yourself in their shoes...it would be really difficult to make every right call...mistakes do happen..
Rusty is in the hardest weight class. What happened to Veach,is he still out. When will he be back?
130 ,though a very tough weight class, is not the most stacked. 145 pounds is definately the strongest weight class this season.
145 is insane.
so who all was at 130 that didnt place ? or who was all the 130's ?
130 ' date='though a very tough weight class, is not the most stacked. 145 pounds is definately the strongest weight class this season.[/quote']Rusty is at 125 and it is tougher than 145.
An example of bad reffing and a call in favor of Woodford was a match between Rusty Parks and Derek Branch, Derek at near the end of the first(I think it was then) caught Rusty in a headlock and had him on his back for at least 3 seconds and got no takedown nor back points for it, then once the period was over it was Derek's choice, which he defered and then Rusty chose neutral and then in the third period it was supposed to be Derek's choice but the ref said it was Rusty's and he choice top, our Coach tryed to say something to the ref but the ref said Derek chose down for his choice, and didn't defer which was wrong because I watched the match on tape and Derek clearly deferred, but regardless Rusty still probably would've won the match.
125 is not tougher than 145 ... absolutely no way. I have 3 guys in mind at 130 that can beat Warner, with two of them i think for sure would win. Parker and Peace are the ones i think would beat him for sure, and Rust/Warner would be a war with Rust ahead by a sliver. In the strength department either Peace or Rust would throttle warner ... and after watching common opponents i don't see him having enough technique (because those two are technically competent too) to offset that advantage. I can't speak for Parker in the strength department as i haven't seen him wrestle this year, but he's definitely way quicker than Warner and technically competent.
Warner is for sure 2nd at 125 based on WCI .. and if i'm not off base (i called the Scott over Warner almost exact ... i said 5-6 or a major) there are 3 guys that should beat him at 130. Kind of hard to argue 125 is harder since i think its well known 145 is tougher than 130. 1-8 at 125 might be tougher than 130, but not at 1-4 i don't think.
parks teched branch and no matter what the choice would have been parks would prob. have won anyways...
parks teched branch and no matter what the choice would have been parks would prob. have won anyways...
And on the "home cookin" stuff, i've always seen the state tourney to be well reffed ... so if you're right it will show up at state. I wasn't there, but i'd drop that stuff ... even if it happened (not implying anything, i wasn't there and don't know) it will get you nowhere.
These are their personal best finishes at state
125

ryan ross- 6th
That doesn't lie, so my vote goes to 145 for the tougher weight class
And on the "home cookin" stuff.
I think your getting "Home Cooking" confussed with intimidation.
I see many refs get intimidated by older, experienced coaches. Woodford, Larue, Campbell, Sheldon Clark (when Matney was there). The refs don't do this intentionally. When they see a well admired coach approach the table the second guess themselves. Good or bad this is true, I know of many officials that have said when ***** goes to the table I start checking myself to see what I did wrong.
I have officiated for a couple of years and know its extremely difficult. I have contiplated returning but I don't have the time.
I would however encourage all ex-wrestlers to try officiating, at least for one year. It's a way you can give back to the sport and to the coaches and peers that challenged you through your high school career.

Parks is a champ also. You are missing Bryant, that makes 2 champs and 4 finalist.
I would say 2 champs and 4 finalist are tougher than 1 champ and 3 finalist. Doesnt really matter cant wait to watch both.

Not sure who the ref is you are talking about, but he does not have to have a head to get controll, if he has the hips and rupp was supputing in weight on his hands or kness and starks toes were in it was a takedown. I was not there but fron the way you are decribing it, it was the right call.
wrestling4life,
he didn't just have the head he like had his arms under his and no one had control. I'm not good at explaining it was a thing that you got to see to understand. but it was outside of the circle and it was still neutral.
what was the score in the starks wenninger match?
7-1. But really wasn't that close......kind of boring, Starks controled the whole match. Probably could have put him away. I think Starks has pinned him before?
Matt Baker the 160 from North Hardin injured his knee in the quarterfinals against So Oldham at the WCI. He found out today he has retorn the medial meniscus that he had surgery on last year after tearing it in the 2005 Regionals. He is out for the season. Dr. Caborn, who did Brian Brohm's surgery ( U of L QB ) will be doing the surgery.
Just Wrestle, usually when people start a sentence that they "don't mean to dog anyone", that is usually what is coming up. To say a weight class is really really bad is a slam and disservice to those wrestlers all over the state that work their butts off for the sport they love. To say a weight class is weak is one thing, but to go one step further and "dog" them by saying they are really really bad is out of line.
For the record, the Baker family wishes Chad Fyffe the best of luck and hope sincerely that he recovers from his knee injury very soon. We know the pain that two seasons ended prematurely by injury can bring. As for Matt, believe it or not, his goal is to rehab and be back in time to wrestle his senior year.
best wishes to your son hope his knee heals up fine
Wishing him a quick recovery!
Good Luck!
Once again, I believe 160 is a really really bad weight class. I stand by my opinion 100%. In no way am I trying to disservice anybody who wrestles, but the fact of life is, sometimes there are weak weight classes. In fact, on this site from time to time people talk about that exact subject.
I disagree with the ranking these weigt classes solely by the finishes at state for these guys. You'd also have to consider the competition level of the weight classes they finished in...140 was pretty good last year, where as I would guess Parks won state at 103 or 112, right? Those weight classes (sorry little guys) are usually not as tough as the middle weights. 103 for example usually has 8th, 9th, & 10th graders placing in it....if an 8th grader places at 140, look out! He's usually going to be awesome!
If you look at the caliber of wrestlers at 145, and use some common sense, there's no question that's the toughest weight class. Look at Harrison Courtney, he's already beaten a nationally ranked wrestler from Indiana (I believe that's what I read on here). Aylor just won the GMVWA tournament which is insanely tough!! And he's already got 2 or more in-state losses!! 145 is scary tough! If Courtney wins it, I say we're looking at maybe the best wrestler ever from Ky.
Best wrestler ever??? I'm not sure I would agree with that. However, if Courtney were to win a title this year, that would be an incredible accomplishment. I think that would definately put him in the upper echelon, but I don't think he would be credited the best of all time. Now if he wins this year, and until he graduates..then i would gladly re-consider it.
Agree. If he can pull off the 4x champ feat, he gets my vote. Especially considering who he will have to go through (at least at this point) this season.

I was thinking the same thing Ranger. If Courtney can pull it all together this year, win the title and continue for 3 more years. You have to give him consideration. But even at WC being the best ever is hard, Ie Joe Carr, Ian Horn two of the top of my head.
question: Will Courtney come close to aquiring more wins than Joe? I know he will have one more year at varsity than Joe. I believe he has something like 250 wins.

A really really bad weight class???? I'm not sure that is entirely correct. If it was truely that bad some of the 152lbs would be headed that way. I think you may be confusing bad with unproven. I think the top 3 or 4 in this wt. class will be very competitive. Just as much as 112, 119, 135, 152, 171, 189, Hwt.
Actually I think 171, and even 189 may be weaker wt. classes at this time. Fyffe, Hidreth, and Walls are just as competitive as Starks, Rupp, and Jones, maybe slightly moreso.
189 after you get past Starks and Winneger, drops off a level or two.
Hwt is always in a league of their own. In the big boy wt. class anything can happen.
I believe he has over 100 wins already. As a freshman! That would be on pace to pass Joe.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I think a lot of weight classes are weak this year. Once you go past the top 2 in every weight class, the talent level really drops off. Except 125 and 145, which are really tuff.
How many total high school wins does Joe Carr Jr. have?
Well i would have to say after this year pat banks will have the most wins in a seson he has a few more wins to go and still has next year but will be beat by courtney.
How many wins does Pat Banks have?
Tiger06 - everyone has their own opinion, i respect yours....but think about a freshman winning at 145...this is not 103 where we have an 8th grader & a 9th grader in the finals (I believe that was the case last year, right?) Not taking anything away from those guys....but could they hang with a Kyle Ruchelle? Or even a decent Jr/Sr wrestler in the upper weight classes? On top of that, this is not an average year at 145...this is a VERY good year!! 145 is stacked. I'm not saying I think Courtney will definitely win it...he could easily not win, in fact....if he has a bad tourney, he may not be in the top 4. <--i'm not saying that will happen, but it certainly could. For a freshman to win that weight class, and assuming he becomes a 4xer....those are big ifs, but if he does that, I'd have no problem saying he was the best ever. I know Joe Carr Jr. is a sacred cow in this state, but he won his first title as an 8th grader at 103. Again, i believe this is traditionally the weakest weight class in the state. If he had been an 8th grader or 9th grader and beefed up to 145 I doubt he would have won state. Now I'm sure the WC mafia will be kicking down my door soon! I mean that as no disrespect to Carr....but winning 145 as a freshman when it's this stacked would be pretty amazing. Jerod Trice from Hoptown won 145 as a freshman in 88, but there were no significant returning state placers in his weight class. Trice could have been one of the greatest ever from this state...anyone who seen him his 9th & 10th grade years would have a hard time arguing that. If Courtney wins it this year, with the kids that are currently there.....he's got my vote hands down! At least as the best freshman ever....we'll see what happens the rest of his career.
I with you pioneer. I didn't see him, but from what I hear, Trice was one of the best without argument. And that's what it took to pull off that sort of feat (a freshman winning at a higher weight class). Add to that the competition at 145 this year. But Courtney has a lot of work to do this year and the next 3.
How many total high school wins does Joe Carr Jr. have?
242
How many wins does Pat Banks have?
Pat has 180 through today so barring injury or illness, he should surpass 200 victories this season which will leave him having to win around 40 next year to pass JC. Based on the schedule from last year and based on this year's schedule, he should be able to get in around 50 matches next season as well. He also missed a pretty good number of matches his 7th, 8th (for middle school competition) and 9th grade (early season surgery) years, which would theoretically have him over 200 victories right now. Pat has set the LaRue County career victories, career team points and career pins records this year so congrats to him for those accomplishments. With all of those individual accomplishments, I know him well enough to tell you that he would probably trade it all for a state championship for LaRue County High School.
Not to discount their chances this year (though I think Woodford will be unstoppable in February) he may have his best opportunity for that team title next year.
Not to discount their chances this year (though I think Woodford will be unstoppable in February) he may have his best opportunity for that team title next year.
I agree Ranger, I just think the deck is stacked a little too much in their favor this year but I will say they won't have five or seven or however many finalists that one guy said they would (that was the same talk last year). LC will be loaded with seniors next year much like South Oldham a couple of years ago so it remains to be seen. Having such a small student body hurts us when trying to fill all of the weight classes with quality people. This does not happen as much at the larger schools especially those with some tradition like Woodford, St X, Trinity etc... Also, Eddie Paden may have his best group of middle schoolers to date as far as athleticism goes, now if we can just keep them involved. And on another note...keep up the good work on the rankings, I enjoy them even tho they are about useless in the real scheme of things, but they at least give is a measuring stick.
Jerod Trice from Hoptown won 145 as a freshman in 88.
Now that is blast from the past. Jerod Trice was a Machine. This kid did whatever he wanted to whomever he wanted to.
What happened to this kid? I think I heard he transferred to Shawnee and refussed to wrestle for the team. Does anyone know the scoop on this?
Hop-town had some tough kids back in the 80's. But it seemed something always happened to someone on the team, injury, quit the team, I think one or two even died before graduating.
The story I heard on Trice was he won state his Fr & So years, his Jr year, he got shot in the stomach....and could no longer wrestle. I was talking to someone who said they seen him (even after the surgery) put a clinic on Ken Chertow down at the state tournament! I mean like majored him...granted, Ken's smaller, but still Jerod was a h.s. kid with some bullet holes in his abdomen. That's from an eye witness who will remain annonymous! Trice could have been a major force on the national scene in my opinion.
Ya, he got shot in the stomach. Only in Hoptown.........
Trice was a great wrestler. We wrestled together after our senior year in some freestyle tourneys(Martinsville,In. and one in Huntington,WV) and he was fun to watch, just a great athlete.
He told me the reason he didn't wrestle for Shawnee was that he wouldn't wrestle for any coach but coach Ploesser.
Also, Jerod placed 5th as an 8th grader in '87 and won in '88 and
'89(MOW).

This was the story I had heard. Wasn't the wreslter that got shot in the stomach Andre Gray???
This is what I've been told by Coach Ploesser a couple of yrs. ago at the Christian Co. tourney. Andre Gray was playing with a gun and it went off
and killed him. I didn't know at the time because I used to talk to Andre at tourneys in high school and it looked like it really hurt Ploesser to talk about the past. Andre was a great kid.
Trice was shot after a dispute. That much I know for sure, don't want to say any details that I'm unsure of.
I'm sorry this is off the subject of the original topic, but I wanted possibly
answer a couple of questions about 2 good Hoptown kids.
What was the Parks, Eck rematch like?
parks dominated the match something like 9-4(parks let him up 4 times)
