Which wrestlers do you think will be wrestling for a D 1 school in the next few years ?
D1 Wrestlers

Brian Peace, Travis Sullivan, John Wolsifier, Harrison Courtney.
I can see quite a few of the current wrestlers doing it big.
I'd add Elliot Martin to that list.

i dont know about that maybe it all depends about what he does this year

He has already won a state championship, how can you say that? I think hes already proved hes a good wrestler.

yes hes a good wrestler but i dont know about D1 good
None of these I think are good enough to go D1. Heck for that matter John Wolsifer couldn't even touch Flake who's NAIA what makes you think he'll do good at D1?

and hasnt he always had problems with gaining weight...i know hes strong but if he cant get up to the 125 and b solid he might not b able to go D1
I think the previously mentioned kids are good enough to go D1. I know it would be difficult, it is for any wrestler but you have to try and project what these kids would be like 2 or 3 years from now with top level coaching. They would probably redshirt their freshman year and that always helps tremendously. I know Kyle Ruschell was very good in high school, but he wasn't necessarily better in his weight class in high school than Wolseifer or Courtney currently are in theirs and look how he has progressed. He has a very good chance at being an NCAA all-american this year and who would have necessarily thought that 4 years ago. You can't go by what their skill level is now and compare them to current D1 wrestlers who have 2 or 3 years of NCAA experience under their belt. If you do that, then of course they wouldn't look like they were good enough. Like I said, you have to project what they will be like in 2 to 3 years from now.
I agree Dragon. High school wrestling just shows a kids potential. At the next level any kid can improve dramatically with the right work ethic. Ruschell is a great example. He was an amazing high school wrestler, but not many people can honestly say they expected the level of success that he has already achieved at the D1 level. Martin is actually following a similar pattern as Ruschell. He competed well as an undersized 103 pounder. Once he got up to weight he won pretty handily. Then (I assume) decided to go 119 no matter how light he is. So I would not bet against Martin having success given how hard he works. Add Sullivan, Courtney, and Wolseifer as guys with unbelievable success already, so why not at the collegiate level.

Just something I noticed, all of those you just listed had VERY close matches at state last season against people who aren't at all being mentioned:
*Courtney won in overtime againt Dan T. who didn't get any mention for possible D1 *John Wolsiefer edged out a win over Scott Wheeler who got no mention
*Travis Sullivan was getting handled pretty well by Dalton Evans whos name wasn't brought up
I think the "DI" stigma is overblown! I think there are kids in NAIA, DIII, DII that have the skill and desire to wrestle DI. I think the more successful kids in KY could attend DI and some would do well and some wouldn't. The success rate would depend more on what they do when they get to college such as work habits, and desire and less on the skills they developed while wrestling in high school.
I don't think the comparison of Wolsiefer to Flake is relevant. I have seen them wrestle around some and for a Jr. in high school at the time, I thought Wolsiefer did "OK". I don't know enough about it to know if John is DI, DII, DIII NAIA caliber, but if anything, I think it validates he is good enough to wrestle somewhere. I do know John has wrestled very well against some kids already committed to DI schools. Remember Zach Flake, is a JC and NAIA National Champ and in my opinion could be a very good DI wrestler.
The NCAA Championships used to include DII wrestlers. I remember a kid from my home town who was a two time DII champ at SIUE and he competed in the DI tournament after the DII Tourney. He finished 3rd in DI one year and 5th the next year, losing to John Smith one year and Jim Jordan the other year. I don't know the history well enough but I think there have been DII wrestlers who have won the DI tourney. I don't think they allow the DII kids to compete in DI anymore.
Kids don't always decide what school to attend based on the level of wrestling program.
Usually kids decide which school to attend based on what they can afford. If KY had any wrestling programs in any of the "State" schools (any level), you would see a lot more KY kids wrestling after high school.
I disagree, DI is a huge jump for the majority of the DII, DIII, and NAIA. I agree that the champs from all these divisions could probably compete at the DI level but the level drops off considerably the further you go down. Most of the champs would be contenders but the rest would be good to just qualify for the DI national tournament.

most D1 wrestlers are lucky to qualify for the tournment, i totally agree with eville dad.
jason walls wrestled in NAIA for missouri valley and he beat numerous D1 wrestlers, including indiana, michigan, and missouri every year in college.
Just to let everyone know , If you are a wrestler with a good work ethic you can walk on any wrestling team in the country . If you can hack it and stand the practices they will let decent wrestlers on their teams. Also the level from naia d 3 and 2 is only differant in the very top competition . The national champions from each weight class in the lower divisions in my opinion would have great shots at all american or a top 5 finish . The D 1 name sounds crazier than it really is .
I really don't see how Travis Sullivan is being mentioned here. Let's not forget that the college level weight-classes begin at 125 lbs. I'm not taking anything away from Sully's accomplishments, but unless he takes on the challenges of a higher weight this year, I don't see him making too much collegiate noise.

You dont think that he'll gain weight after cutting this season? Hell have plenty of time to lift and grow by the time hes in college.

I'll repeat what has already been mentioned, althought I too think Sullivan needs to move up and challenge some bigger guys and overall stronger competition. But Sullivan isn't any smaller than Ruschell was. And Kyle has shown that he can grow into a college body and hang with the best of them.
Why would he need to cut weight this season? If he's going to wrestle in college, he should go ahead and prove that he can win at a higher weight. If it's a perfect record he's after, then he's cutting for the wrong reason. It just seems to me that he would be running from threatening competition i.e. Matt Zarth.
Zarths a good wrestler but he couldnt hang with Sullivan
Let's keep in mind that Matt Zarth gave up only 2 points in the entire state tournament last year. Those points were on a last second reversal and he still almost won by major decision. Sullivan wouldn't have a strength advantage, nor would he have a technique advantage. Who knows, maybe they'll meet this season.

That would be a pay-per-view match for sure.

Not to mention he was in the most stacked weight of last year
