KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2007/2008 December 05

Topic ID: 2898 | 94 Posts

Okay, I am cutting it close tonight, but I met my deadline.  I was delayed by 2 things.  First, I had to officiate a tri meet tonight.  Then, my good buddy pinned-em-all challenged me to tackle the team dual rankings.  So I took a quick stab at that.  And before anyone starts crying about that, here are a couple of notes.  First, I did it based on what I think the lineups will be for the regional tournament (no monkeying around with the lineup for favorable matchups).  I also only did the top 15 based on who I believe will be at the state duals.  I'm sure a North Oldham or Simon Kenton will beat a few of these teams or even fight their way into the state duals, but right now I don't see it that way (and I guessed on the fill in teams).  As everyone has seen already there are a lot of guys still working their way down to weight, so there is lots of shuffling and surprises still to come (when some guys decide to get on the mat).

Not sure if i'm not on the rankings because you don't think I should be or because you didn't know I was back wrestling again. I wrestled tonight at 171 and got first period pins over Allen from Bullit Central and some kid from Valley. But, as always, great job on the rankings. I'm sure they take alot of effort. :-)

Did you consider the Beast of the Southeast Results in your team rankings?

If so i was just wondering how Letcher County Central and Sheldon Clark can be ranked so high when they were basically curb stomped by St.X? Saint X placed every wrestler and had 2 champions and 4 runner ups and they arnt even a top team this year. So i guess what im getting at is how can they get stomped by such a bad team and one of them still be 14th. I mean seriously look at the results. the only team within like 50 points was DB (from tennesee)

anywho sorry for the little rant. i apprieciate the rankings as always andi would like to thank you for your time because everything looks good.

Thanks for also adding dual rankings.  Its nice to see where everyone is at on them as well.  It must be pretty hard doing these rankings with this new weight loss program.  Half of these top ranked guys havn't even been able to wrestle at there desired weight class yet.

Wow. I am actually surprised at how high you have Fern Creek in the Duals rankings.  I will be surprised if Fern Creek even goes to State Duals.  They have too many holes in the line-up.

Dude, maybe it has something to do with St X only having one person ranked in the top 10. idk  :-D

wade from JH should e ranked higher i was having a bad day and my head wasnt in the match but he still beat me so i thnk he should be ranked higher

It's important to note that Bryce Alexander is currently wrestling @135 and

beat Luke Ervin on 11/29/07 @ UC.

I was in no way saying St.X should be ranked higher.... they are prolly overrated as they only have 1 guy in the top 10.

but when you get spanked by a team that is that bad i dont think you should be ranked #14

Yes, I saw those results.  BUT, there were not a lot of matchups with highly ranked kids that I saw.  Even though there were 6 guys in the finals I don't know who they beat to get there.  Also, without the complete brackets, I don't know who was missing from those other teams.  We have all seen a lot of guys missing in action so far this season.  I'm sure not having Ryan Kelly or Adam Dials in the lineup affected Sheldon Clark's team scores a bit.  I will say, I have been waiting for some St X results because I have a hard time imagining them finishing really low at state, but without results I have a hard time moving kids around and their score increasing.

Wow. I am actually surprised at how high you have Fern Creek in the Duals rankings.  I will be surprised if Fern Creek even goes to State Duals.  They have too many holes in the line-up.

Duals so often come down to pins.  Who gets them and who gives them up.  When you get to the second half of FC's lineup the will get more than their fair share of pins.  And in a lot of dual matchups, unless they hit some studs I'm guessing Coach Tichenor will find a way to get those lightweights to avoid the pins.  Once we get to Christmas things will be a lot more clear.  More results to see how good the new kids are for everyone and more guys at their final weights once the 2 pound gift is given.

18  Chr Co  Calvin McNeeley  is in the 11th grade.

As to the question about a team spanking another,  yes Sheldon Clark was without two wrestlers who could possibly be in the state finals or placing at the least, and Letcher was also without 7 of there starters do to football.  But St. X looked very good at this event.

Ahhh

It warms my soul to see that no matter how much warning or how many times you explain yourself there are always others who will question the obvious. :-)

It must be all this new KERA stuff.  Making them write so much has developed their intelligence to the point where they now know everything without doing research.

Us poor ole old timers missed out on this.  We must still do research and study the graphs before we understand things.  Man people like me are dissapearing like the rotary dial phone and the clocks with hands (non digital).

It's important to note that Bryce Alexander is currently wrestling @135 and

beat Luke Ervin on 11/29/07 @ UC.

Man this Bryce Alexander must be a contender for the state title the way things are looking, aparently he dominated the Ervin match the way people are talking. Look out for headlock king. Pretty tough for a sophomore, qualified since 7th grade for state. Ervin will get his rematch and if Bryce wins that then we will know for sure who is the best in region 1 at 135.

No matter what team you beat in the rankings that are above, it all comes down to the individual weight class. The teams with more kids ranked in the near the top 8 will be ranked nearer the top.

EXAMPLE:

Individual rankings-

Sou Ft Knox     Doss   Way Co

103 17                           4

112                             1

119 15                 14           5

125                             2

130 14     9                           21

135                         20             23

215                   1               9

285       1                   15             12

Based on this information the team that is most likely score the most points at state will be ranked above the others. Don't just look at who you beat in the season, but how your team will due at state with all the other teams.

I also heard that Ranger was wanting to take a trip to the North Pole! So a little $$$ might help with the rankings also.

The numbers for individual rankings moved when I posted it, so you might have to looked them up.

This is for Sou 135 and anyone that is not sure how the rankings are pulled out of a hat.

I dont think that Big Daddy is trying to build this kid up to State Contender status. Union County is good. I wrestled for Union County. Ervin

he never said anything about Way Co

Union won't be at the Christian Co. tournament. Walls will go with whatever, he might put the JV team agains Henderson at the UC Duals and have Ervin wrestle JV for that one match.

103GBM

I know, as I said an example.

Having Way Co. just shows a higher ranking team than the others.

What happened to the spreadsheet.  to download and print????

I can't speak for Fort Knox or Iroquois, but we did lose to Southern on a tiebreaker.  However we were without our varsity 103, 130, our 152 wrestled 160 with a torn rotator cuff, and we didn't have our heavyweight.  So we forfeited quite a few points.  But as everyone keeps pointing out, is it's based on advancement in the tournament and points they pick up.  Good luck though the rest of the season and we will see each other again soon.

39   Tates Creek

40   Ballard

41   Whitley County

42   Nelson County

43   Valley

44   Newport

45   Ohio County

46   Henderson County

47   McCreary Central

48   Dixie Heights

49   Southern

50   Iroquois

wow Southern has beat Moore(27),Fort Knox(24),Iroquois(50) in duals

And it tourments we have beat (22)Doss,(24)Fort Knox,(37)Bullitt Central,

(42)Nelson County

Not to take anything away for these team I am trying to so that Southern is no joke and maybe should be a lil high ranked thank you

MHB

yH THERS NO WAY MOORE SHOULD BE SO HIGH SOUTHER BEAT THEM

Southern    kids ranked : 103-17, 119-15, 130-14, 189-21

Moore        kids ranked : 124-24, 135-25, 140-17, 160-4, 171-9, 285-9

What team scores the most points at state based on this? MOORE!!!

Could change, more kids ranked and ranked higher.

If what CoachK said is correct missing all those guys though that explains alot, plus if you see moore's ranked kids they have 6 compared to southern's 4.  average for moore is 14.6, whereas southern's is 16.75.  So with 6 guys you would expect them to get more points in the state tournament than only 4.  And moore has one guy who must be pretty good as he is ranked 4th so that's more team points than the four kids from southern would expect to get.

YAH AND WE DONT HAVE OUR PPL WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE WE WERE MISSING A WEIGHT CLASS AND WE STIL ONE WITH TWO POINTS TAKIN OFF FOR SPORTSMAN AND A SHOE LACE

Actually that was changed after the match because the shoelaces are no longer a team point it is just a match point.  So taking that away is what tied the score up and there was no unsportsman conduct just the one mistaken point for the shoe.  Our guys are still up a weight class too until the fat test lets them get down.  So our 160 was 171 and our 171 wrestled up to 189.  but either way it was a good match and we will see how the rest of the season turns out, so far it has started just like it did last year!

where's cody herald, 119, for Simon Kenton???

just kidding! :-D

i was not saying that we should be higher than moore i am saying that we as a team should be higher than 49th.

like i said before i am not trying to take anything away from anyone.

i as a person thinks Southern should be a lot higher

What happened to the spreadsheet.  to download and print????

Sorry about that.  All of the chaos of Wednesday night threw me off and I forgot to copy the spreadsheet.  And now I have made a thousand updates.  Next Wednesday.

Thanks myGSP.  Glad to see someone has learned over the last couple years how this thing works and can spare me from having answer these questions.  If it makes anyone feel better, Southern is #48 based on the updates I have right now.  Give the season a few weeks to play out and then you can start asking these type of questions.  But please do the homework first, just like GSP layed it out.  There is a formula that calcs the team scores, but lay out the ranked kids and you get a pretty good idea who falls where.

yah i agree its not like we suck that bad i mean seriously we are acutly looking pretty good this year and we still aint done improving

how is mitch number 2 he is going to win the state tournament agian. I think cody martin from apollo is going to wrestle 130.

how is mitch number 2 he is going to win the state tournament agian.

because the kid he is ranked behind is a two time state champion and returning state champion in that weight class. not to mention he is freakin' awsome.

At the nelson county duals Zac Brown beat #11 Hoskinson, #22 Pile, and #24 Richardson. And Nathan Gray beat #11 Croney and #17 Conder

Austin conner got beat by levi scarbourough 9-5 at the hoptown tournatment, watch out for him this year at region

ranger.

Looking at your rankings I assume you use a different criteria to rank dual teams. In the regular rankings you base it on points scored at state.  Do you base your dual rankings on what you think is going to happen in the individual matchups?

What happened to Ryan Dillon getting beat at Ryle by a JV guy?

brandon wren from holmes is planning on staying 119 this year

I Would liek to inform everybody that the middle school heavyweight vince staten from mccreary county is wrestling. my record is 12-4 and i got quickest pin award at the king of the bluegrass tournament yesterday. Also i have beaten tyler beckett 2 out of 2 times..both times by pin from a over and under throw.

typo.. the former middle school heavy weight. i am no longer in middle school. i am a freshmen in highschool.

smart, tell everyone how you are going to pin them. Over-under, ill have to watch out for that...haha..congrats on quickest pin, how fast

thats not always how i pin people..i was just there..he shot and looked like he was tying to fly so i hooked him and threw it...lol...and it was like 6 and a half second...a kid from fair dale.. it started and then i pushed his head down, he went to his knees so i basically tackled him and he just layed there... he was so scared at the beginning that he did not even start right his foot was off the line and he was leaning way back...it was so funny...but the person who does ranking needs to put bebop on there...he won king of the bluegrass....also the guy who placed second.. i forgot his name.. i beat in 37 seconds...it  sucked cause the brackets were messed up...

There is nothing quite like a cocky Freshman tooting his own horn.

Two people that look like they should be ranked alot higher are Oldham's 215 [wow. He is one of the fastest 215's i've ever seen] and the 171 from JH.

Ichiro Chiba? He is pretty quick

I thought he was gonna ware Derek down. He was hitting some pretty deep shots but never finished. I think that would be an amazing state finals match. Definately the match of the night in my opinion. Or at least the best finals match of the night.

Chiba's power was no match for Derek's technique and that was proven by Derek's early 2nd period pin.  Chiba has improved tremendously and with a little better conditioning he will be tough.  It is not a stretch to say he is top 8 at the 215 weight class and in fact I think he is.  He does have a very good blast double, but needs to develop a little more than just a power game.  Other wrestlers at the Lonesome who impressed me were Alex Murphy (112 from John Hardin) & Ricky Wright (145 from Seneca).  They both looked very good for this early in the season.

215 could have been a way better finals match if Chiba didn't ware down immediately after the first period. He was so tired looking, he didn't even have a prayer once he was on bottom.

this Alex Murphy kid seems to be really good he beat Ross and i think he come do something at state this year

Alex Murphy is very talented and will make some noise in the near future.  He has a strong work ethic and has been working hard since last year to get better.  Alex and his older brother Jordan have spent many weekends in Ohio over the summer at camps getting ready for this season.  Looks like its already paying off.

Murphy did have a great tournament, but in my opinion Frasier didn't look very impressive at lonesome. He was very slow and out of shape, he seemed to struggle with every opponent. He didn't look like the #2 kid    in the state or anywhere close to it. Murphy would have had a lot of trouble with some other highly ranked  112s like Dan Smith or Jeff Warra.

For not even being ranking :-o, I believe Murphy has beat'n all the bold, the schedule showed that John has wrestled those schools and I think his only lost was to Travis Sullivan.

He'll wrestle:11,12,15 next weekend at the Region 2 duals.

DEC. 22, Central Hardin Bruin Duals, John will match up against: Trinity, Union County

Fairdale, Meade County, Moore.

Time will tell if he is for real or a pretender, he may even have trouble with Smith or Warra senior/junior; but then again he is only an 8th grader.

Maybe, ranger ranks him 16th Wednesday.  If he wins out this weekend, then he can jump to 7th

1  Way Co  Travis Sullivan  12

2  Mon Co  Ross Carpenter-Fraser  12

3  Tri  Dan Smith  12

4  Sen  Jeff Warra  11

8  Ryle  Michael Osbourne  10

11  NH  Coty Wood  11

12  Lar Co  Joey Henderson  10

15  CH  Kyle Terry    9

22  Laf  Jimmy Lacy    9

23  Whit Co  Duncan Caddell    9

he did not beat osbourne. he got beat 9-4.

he did not beat osbourne. he got beat 9-4.

See I was mistaken, if he wins out this weekend he can be top ten :-D.

My apologies to 8  Ryle Michael Osbourne  10 for the error

as noted he is only a 8th grader who only started wrestling last year.  You have to remember kids at this age with this little experience can look great one week and awful the next.  give the kid some time. and i think all anklepick was saying he was able to get to this point was because he worked so hard over the summer.

because the kid he is ranked behind is a two time state champion and returning state champion in that weight class.  not to mention he is freakin' awsome.

No offense to Ervin (he is a beast), but ditto.  I expect an awesome showdown in Frankfort.  One for the ages.

Exactly.  I spent a little time looking at the dual matchups, but honestly not as much as I would have liked (I do have to work sometimes).  So I made some predictions on pins, techs, majors, and wins.

Ranger, you're the man. I have no idea how you do all these calculations. My math homework took me about an hour the other night and the exponents aren't even divisible by tech-falls or pins.  :-D. I hope everyone appreciates how much time you put into these.

See I was mistaken, if he wins out this weekend he can be top ten :-D.

My apologies to 8  Ryle Michael Osbourne  10 for the error

How is he going to jump right over #10 Daniel Wiexler FC.  Wex just beat the #11 North Hardin kid in the finals of the KOB.  good match ended in OT.

Henderson County placed above Fort Knox at the Orange and Black tournament. THey actually placed second behing Brentwood Academy in a 13 team tournament. Fort Campbell was there also. 46 may be a little low, but 24 for Fort Knox seems to be a huge mistake unless they are just missing alot of key guys. Their heavyweight wrestled Brentwoods heavy weight in the finals. Thought it would be a better match. Brentwood dominated. That 15 year old 285 pound beast was mean! Lets just see how the year shapes up. Should be interesting.................. :-D

colonelcoach2007,

Rangers predictions are based on STATE results. You get major points for state champions ex. Anothony Bailey and not to mention another state placer in the line up.

It is hard to rank teams right now.  The biggest thing to realize is that most teams do not have thier full line-up or guys at proper wts.  We now know how wrestling teams feel with good football teams.  With Central winning state, we will not have all the guys back until next week.  We have been wrestling with 50% of the team.  That is not to mention the new guys that will come out off of the football team that will contribute.

Bailey will score more points himself for Ft. Knox than most the state qualifiers for henderson will score. Bryce Alexander will contribute but not enough to make up for Bailey's scores. And Brentwood is in Tennessee so it wont matter how much a beast that guy is, Bailey wont see him at state.

Donnell Davis beat the Andrew Mitchell of South Oldham at Ryle this weekend.

Was Davis in the finals vs Ervin? Who won the finals of 145?? Thats a pretty good victory for Donnell

Donnell wrestled well in the finals but lost to Ervin 4-2. it was 2-2 going into the third.

Oh, thats a great match.. Donnell should be ranked alot higher.. Does he plan on dropping to 140?

why isnt' dc evans ranked from whitley, he beat vinsant from wayne and has only lost one match which was to shawn johnson from lafayette who took fifth at 103 last year

why isnt' dc evans ranked from whitley, he beat vinsant from wayne and has only lost one match which was to shawn johnson from lafayette who took fifth at 103 last year

check your facts evans is ranked 4th at 119

Oh, thats a great match.. Donnell should be ranked alot higher.. Does he plan on dropping to 140?

He was at 140 at Tates Creek last week.  Not sure, but the weight loss may have affected him, because he didn't appear to be at the top of his game.

Donnell is most likely going to be staying at 145.

Griggs TC beat #19 Cody Bruce and #20 Robert Lange at 189. and Steven Kimbrell beat #16 Aretakis NO and #22 Geralds Chr Co at 140

Steven Kimbrell wrestled Austin Jones not Robert Geralds

my bad i thought they wrestled

Donnell is most likely going to be staying at 145.

not to say you're wrong or anything, im actually asking sense you seem to go to dunbar, but i heard donnell was actually planning on cutting to 135, have these plans changed or something?

Kyle Proffitt and Sam Mitchell from caldwell county are not wrestling any more.

I totally agree

Awww cut the kid a break. If he really beat Dillon than let him have his moment. That's like saying some eighth grader beat Wolsiefer. It may not have been worth any championship or award but he would probably be sittin' on cloud nine for a while. Good job to you. Just don't let it go to your head.

WHAT...an eighth grader beat Wolsiefer???  I missed that one. lol :-D

WHAT...an eighth grader beat Wolsiefer???  I missed that one. lol :-D

Ya didn't you see the results posted on the link. :-o  It was one heck of a battle, Johnny made one mistake and that was it.  Go check the Fern Creek results, heck I should have just cut and pasted.

How Come?

They both quit for personal reasons.

Ranger 123,

Thanks once again for putting out the rankings every year.  It is getting to the point I don't even look at the KWCA page anymore because it takes them so long to update their website.  I know keeping current with all the new kids coming out and which weights to put kids is an insane task. Also, once you put all of this together then people want to pick it apart.  Just letting you know how much I appreciate it.  One last thing for all you highschool kids.  Let all of us old wrestlers debate these rankings.  Our time is done yours is know come the second week of February rankings won't mean a thing.  Good Luck to all.

once again i am going to ask since no one ansered, is donnell davis not planning on cutting to 135 anymore?

I can't imagine he would.  I saw him at 140 at Tates Creek a few weeks ago and he looked pretty tired.  Maybe cutting weight wasn't the reason, but he didn't look like the strong guy I have seen in the past.  Shortly after that he went up to 145.  I now hear he is planning to go back to 140.  Maybe 142 won't be as bad, but I would be very surprised to see him at 135 or 137.

yeah i was thinking the same thing, i think he should stay at 40, i mean he is still probably one of if not the strongest 40 anyway. technique wise though, that may be a different story. i guess we'll see.
