Stan have you heard anything about McCreary hosting??
Stan have you heard anything about McCreary hosting??
I heard they were having everyone travel to HOOPS.!!! (just kidding)
Statewide Youth Regionals will be held on February 23rd. (8) man brackets will be used just as they will at state. The weight classes are the same also except they will probably have to move kids around to get them matches as there are 41 weight classes for state.
Times will be announced by each individual school. Hosting schools are as follows:
Contact
Eastern McCreary County Travis Cash
Western Union county Brad Hagedorn
Northern Campbell County Jay Yenter
Louisville River City Efren Quirino
I will update this post after I verify with these individuals if I can release their email address and phone number.

Stan, can you attach any flyers?
I don't have any to attach. I'll contact the above reps to find out if they have the flyers ready.
So you have to qualify to wrestle at Elementry School State?
I don't think the regionals are qualifying this year. I think the regional qualifiers start next year.
Then if these are not qualifiers what is this whole post about? anyone have an answer to this please?Statewide Youth Regionals will be held on February 23rd. The regional is just to have an opportunity to get the kids experience. Many kids (families) will decide NOT to make the trip to Johnson Central for the youth state tournament. So it is important to have a local event to give them a chance to compete as well as building the framework for a qualifying event in the future.
OK I understand. Not necessary to compete in one of the regional to compete at Youth State. Thanks
Hmmm...... strange. My son wrestles for Pine Knot in McCreary County and there is nothing about this on our schedule.
Stan-
Could you please ask Travis Cash to contact me regarding Youth Regionals...I'd like to give my parents some info on this event
THANKS!!!
Can anyone tell me where Woodford Co. would wrestle regionals? North or Louisville?
Not North....so probably Louisville. Youth Regions mirror Middle School regions.
woodford kids go to letcher co??????? O.M.G. thats a journy!! Anyone know how far that is from Woodford Co.
and
WHere would lexington kids go for regionals???
Patti, expand your search. I think it is Prestonburg that is about 11 miles away. I believe they have 5 hotels.
I'm glad that this question is being brought up. We live in Radcliff, our regions are in Union over 2 hours to the west of us, then state is in Paintsville, 3 and 1/2 hours to the east. My son loves to wrestle BUT the trips are getting longer and longer.
Also, if there is some info on Paintsville I would love to have it. We tried to get hotel room and there are only two in town. AND if the post by yodawrestles is true, Im not sure that we should have events in areas that may make our children feel uncomfortable or worried something might happen to them because they do not "fit in".
I will try to address some of your concerns.....the one about "fitting in" and feeling uncomfortable or worried.........I have no idea what you are talking about. I am taking my son and I have no concern about his comfort, fitting in, etc.
There is a KY Youth Wrestling Association....represented by four region reps. The regions mirror Middle School. This makes sense for continuity. When you have to slice something 4 ways, there is only so much variation you can have. 4 perfect quarters of the state would not exist unless the state was a perfect circle or square. The KY Youth Wrestling Association adopted these regions for youth. Suggestions on how to better divide the regions can always be forwarded to your region rep for consideration at the next meeting. (Next meeting is in May)
As far as hosting the regional tournaments.......we had one per region that was able/willing to host the tournament. If you want one closer then have your club offer to host it. When only one per region offered then there is no way to decide for the more central of the region locations. Same with the State Tournament. Nominations were taken at the last State Tournament in 2007 and Johnson Central was the only one that offered. That makes the decision easy. The Board acknowledged that the more central the location, the better. However, youth programs are still in their early stages, for the most part. We don't exactly have teams beating down the doors to host many tournaments....much less regionals and state.
As far as there only being two hotels in Paintsville.....I believe you are correct. We made our reservations early realizing that with a small town like Paintsville that lodging choices would be at a minimum.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Letcher Co wrestling and their entire staff for coordinating and hosting the youth eastern regional tournament on such short notice. It was a great event!!! I would like to also thank Johnson Central and their staff for hosting the elementary state tournament next weekend. I am sure it will also be a top quality event. I do want to say this, we as coaches and parents need to remember this sport is not about us, with coaches complaining about other coaches, who we like, dislike, and the locations of the events and using these as excuses for not competing. The end result is not hurting the coaches it
