Grammar/spelling

Topic ID: 3016 | 22 Posts

I've been an addict to this site for a long time.  (going to a 12 step program in March).  I know this subject has been brought up before, but the grammar and spelling on this site KENTUCKYwrestling.com is getting more and more embarrassing.  Some of the posts you can't even understand what they are saying:

"Regarding referees there is know consistinse ,u will be at one tournement and it will be diffrenent all over. The only way this will change is if

KY coaches Assocation gets together with referees sets up live instructionaly clinics and videos . Each region needs to host one with all the coaches in each region and the refes in that area. If u desire a out side opinion then invite refs from outside Ky to with the clinics. The more times these clinics are held the better the calls will be. There will be something accountablity."

I hope this is a joke, but I'm afraid it is not.  I hate to call someone out, but come on people have some pride!!  You're not standing on the corner slanging with your friends, you are posting on a public forum and making us look like a bunch of illiterate hilljacks.

Sorry for the rant.

btw - feel free to post any really bad grammar/writing mistakes you see on this site on this thread.

Yes i believe it is the two kids from southern, they get on my nerves so bad.  All they do is type really fast and talk about something that is pointless and spell every word wrong!

I dont see why it matters as long as you can read what they're saying.

Maybe I'm just a cybernerd...who knows, but it matters to some people that their kids are illiterate.  Our state has a bad enough reputation as it is - "where ejucation pays!!"  The problem is 1/2 the time you can't understand what some of these kids (and adults) are saying.  I'm truly not trying to make fun of people or anything like that.  But what's Ken Chertow's saying?  Be a scholar athlete, not a dumb jock.

Why does it matter?  Bryan Peace scored a 31 (or 32) on his ACT.  Basically aced it.  Mason Reid is an honors student....look those guys up in 10 years.  Bryan will probably be finishing up med school, on his way to make millions.  Mason, I don't know...probably just as good.  Why?  Because they worked hard, applied themselves, and did well in school.

But I don't think the fact Brian Peace wrote with correct grammer on a forum when he was in highschool will haev anything to do with his success

r u sure that's all the teams. I thought that north oldham was going too. I was hoping to wrestle my guy from north before region duals.

Using correct grammer, (or at least close to it) does not make you a better wrestler nor will it help in your success in the future.

However you should take pride in your writting or speech.

I am the worst speller on here, that is why I use spell check.

Well, I am pretty confident that the consistent lack of correct grammar will have a negative impact on your success.  Try getting a top notch job with a crappy resume or if the person intereviewing you needs a translator to understand what you are saying.

Not true at all.  These kids will be in the workforce some day, imagine if you sent an email to your boss that looked like this:

"Hi boss....u mind if i tkae 2mrrow off?"  You will appear ignorant, and it will hold you back.  That makes a lasting impression on people.  The resume example brought up by Ranger is another great point.  But propper grammar in emails in a professional environment are important.

The above shows how easy it is to make a mistake when you are typing online.  Proper grammar in emails in a professional environment are important.  The only difference, however, is that times are changing.  I notice that email communications is becoming more and more informal.  But there is a huge difference between typing some incorrectly as opposed to not have a solid background in English to know if something is wrong.

DOH!!!  I knew that was coming.

True, what he posts on a forum in h.s. will have no impact on his success.  Unless he picks up such bad habits, that he can't communicate effectively or that he appears illiterate.  I mean would you want a doctor that could barely read or write?  I'll leave it at that.  If people see it differently than me, that's ok too.  I'm not trying to beat a dead horse.
