KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2007/2008 December 19

Topic ID: 3024 | 85 Posts

This week's rankings are packed full of interesting information.  I have expanded the individual rankings to 30 and teams to 65.  I updated the dual rankings using a system very close to what two_cents suggested.  And I have "ranked" the regions based on two different methods: 1) my state tournament-like scoring system and 2) using the top 10 from the rankings (10 pts for #1, ..., 1 pt for #10).

I dont think Zack Salyers can go 112 anymore, he wrestled 130 at johnson central a couple of matches.

Technically, he could.  I don't know what he weighed in at, but if he was 120 then he can wrestle 125 or 130.  Then after a month or so he could make it down to 114.  Assuming his body fat allows it.

man ranger, evrytime i check i keep falling back, i guess i'll just have to beat some kinds in front of me to move back up. i don't understand what keeps bringing me back though.

A couple of big ones who recently came in/up are Shawn Johnson (Lafayette), Jordan Murphy (JH) and TJ Bates (Conner).  WCI is your chance to stake your claim to a higher spot.

yeah, thats where i was planning on turning a few heads ranger, hopefully i am up for the task.

Ranger you have Pre-season Dec 19 on the xls.

I am really interested to see what the final lineup for John Hardin will be.  Pitcher has dropped to 135, and Murphy is at 125.  I would of never figured that they could make those weights.

looks like region 6 is pretty dominant

Nice work, Ranger.  KCD Clayton Adamy at 112 is in 12th grade.

najah savery(160) from prp wrestled 189 this past weekend i think

I heard that you weren't going to be able to because your coaches were mad at you or something.  I heard one of your fellow wrestlers talking about it the other day.

Ranger the rankings look better and better each time i look and i see im moving on up in the state dont plan on being 119 for long just saturday and next month i should be 112

This is true.  Our current 112 is winning matches and hitting moves, while our current 119 is more of a standing practice dummy for the opponents that are out on the mat.  If he could hit a move, any move, and sprawl then he might be able to move down.

I guess that's what happens when you "review" it at midnight.

Thanks.  At some point when I was moving guys around my grades got messed up.

Auther Ohmes moved up to 125. I dont know if its for the rest of the year or not but he is for right now.

to bad Apollo beat both ohio county and Paducah Tilghman at a tri meet and we are still ranked lower then them as a team

How is Kevin Porter (central) ranked above Cody Mann (Fern Creek) when Mann beat him like 18-10 and now he bumps up a weight class and is ranked above him?

When did that match happen? I remember the match at the beginning of the season. Was there a second meeting?

no just the match at the begging of the year when it was fern creek,PRP,central and manual in a 4 way. An if you remebered when it happened why would you ask "when did this match up happen?"

to bad Apollo beat both ohio county and Paducah Tilghman at a tri meet and we are still ranked lower then them as a team

No you are not ranked lower than them as a team.  The Dual team rankings do not mention any of the three.  You are looking at tournament rankings.  MUCH MUCH MUCH different than team rankings.

dang and I wasted this post for my 900th post.  :x

Once again, the team rankings are projected state tournament finishes.  Let's say Union Co's roster only consisted of Ervins.  You may beat them in a dual (probably be close).  But at state you would get smoked.

I mean't when, if ever, did the second match take place.

i think ryan schoppe should be ranked higher, at the caldwell tourney he had cory armstrong pinned within the first 2 minutes of the first or second period. the ref didnt get down on the mat quick enough to call armstrong pinned. just to let you know your ranking at 171 Kyle Proffitt pinned Matt Fry both times they wrestled last year at 189

How is Kevin Porter (central) ranked above Cody Mann (Fern Creek) when Mann beat him like 18-10 and now he bumps up a weight class and is ranked above him?

Sit down and take a deep breath.  I didn't go back and look at all of the results and I missed that one.

Raydale Williams of Iroqious graduated last year. Also, Porter could be ranked higher because, even though Mann won that particular match, Porter was bumping up and held his own against a bigger opponent. I wouldn't count him out as a result of that match.

NOT ranked Southern 215 he has beat the 12th ranked kid and 26th that i know of maybe he should at lease be on the list

Technically, he could.  I don't know what he weighed in at, but if he was 120 then he can wrestle 125 or 130.  Then after a month or so he could make it down to 114.  Assuming his body fat allows it.

He weighed in at 120.3. My bad ranger. I suppose there is still that possibility.

Once again, the team rankings are projected state tournament finishes.  Let's say Union Co's roster only consisted of Ervins.  You may beat them in a dual (probably be close).  But at state you would get smoked.

Based on the current rankings Team Ervin would score about 81 points at state.  Last year that would have been good enough for 13th which beats a lot of schools.

Also you can look at Doss and Fort Knox the two lowest schools on the list with a number 1 ranked wrestler.  I am not saying Nickle and Bailey are their only wrestlers but if they decided to quit tomorrow both teams would drop several places.  Keep in mind 1st place will get you about 29 points depending on how your matches go and thats good enough for a 34th place tie at last years state tournament.

i think ryan schoppe should be ranked higher, at the caldwell tourney he had cory armstrong pinned within the first 2 minutes of the first or second period. the ref didnt get down on the mat quick enough to call armstrong pinned. just to let you know your ranking at 171 Kyle Proffitt pinned Matt Fry both times they wrestled last year at 189

schoppe never had armstrong pinned..he did catch cory on his back when cory went for a move, but was never even close to pinning armstrong

What's up with moving down the 2 teams in the football state championships, Class 6A, St.X and Trinity.(So much media coverage for football, yet so little for the toughest and oldest sport)

I don't think (but I'm not totally sure) that Trinity has lost a dual.  #2-#3?

And St. Xavier? From #31-#34?  I think this quote from Dr Cradle sums up my confusion on why they didn't get moved up.

"Don't know how you rank teams.....but you got to have some love.

St. Xavier high school. currently ranked 31. huh

Also: good job on the rankings!  Now you have the Top 30 in each weight class and your goin out to the Top 65 teams.  (I think there were only 81 teams at state last year) !!!!!  Nice.

Ranger, you should make people take a licensed agreement that they know the difference in team dual and individual tournament scoring.

singleleg, these are projected outcomes of the khsaa state tourament. TOTALLY different than dual team points.

schoppe never had armstrong pinned..he did catch cory on his back when cory went for a move, but was never even close to pinning armstrong

Yeah Cory dominated that match except for the 3-4 seconds he got caught on his back after he lost the single leg ride. He ended up pinning Shoppe the next period and was totally dominating him before that, besides the fact that you may have thought it was pin even though it wasn't since it wasn't called a pin. An "almost pin" does not count as a victory, sorry.

From the Bear:  Ranger, you should make people take a licensed agreement that they know the difference in team dual and individual tournament scoring.

singleleg, these are projected outcomes of the khsaa state tourament. TOTALLY different than dual team points.

Yeah.  But better teams generally place higher at tournaments (especially KHSAA) than not as good teams.

                              Just saying.

Donnell Davis beat Andrew Mitchell from S. Oldham at the Raider Rumble but is still ranked behind him.

I don't think Southern's 215 beat Ryondrae Wesley from Central.  Ryondrae didn't come out for wrestling until last week due to football.  He may have beat a 215 from Central, but I don't believe it was Dre.

Bobby Fuqua from Meade County is not wrestling this year.

Sorry bud thats not a major, a major is by 8 or more pts.  :-)

At heavyweight Joseph frith Doss 12 pinned #26  PRP  Cody Jaggers    9.

That is true...Tanner Flynn beat Zack Pearson by pin fall twice this year. I think Flynn beat the Paducah Tilghman kid in the finals.

*Isnt Jake Skinner wrestling 135, he beat Bryce Alexander at the Caldwell COunty tournament. Is he dropping to 130?

Who is wrestling 152 for UNion County? I heard Jarvis is going to be down to 103 soon. Is Isaac Thomas wrestling 112 for the rest of the year? Him and Dee Leveal should have a good match in the regional finals.

What about 140 and 145 for Union County?

*125 is looking like a beast of a weight class....

When is Union going to wrestle Hopkinsville. I know Dionte and Hoptowns 189 should be a good match....

Austin Conner from UHA should be much tougher when he gets down to 171.

Didnt expect to see Elliot Martin ranked third at this point. He is a tough kid, and DC Evans has slipped a bit. I only saw him in the state finals against Sullivan, but man he was tough. I believe if he didnt get cute and try to pin Sullivan, there may have been a different outcome.

Sullivan will most likely capture the record this year. Man that kid is tough as nails. I watched him wrestle Adam Carr, when Carr was dominating 103.

Well were that much closer to the new year. Regional and state time should be very exciting.

Another note for Henderson.....Hwt zack pearson is a junior, and Brandon Brack 140 is a senior. Just when you want to put the class beside them next time.

Thanks Ranger,

You definately have a better grasp than the Kentucky wrestling coaches association site.

Keep up the good work....

does anyone know if #13 Glenn Frost JH HWT will be back.

and ranger123 will you be putting the Gatewood fellow in HWT for JH. Just wondering I heard this guy looks great. he should be ranked at least 23-24.

I think Skinner is dropping. His dad said the shift was going to happen from 130-140 weight classes. Jarvis should be at 103 by the Mater Dei Christmas Classic. Thomas should be at 112 for Union. 140 is probably Junior Matt Young or Junior Matt Burke. I. Ervin will be at 145 most likely. Josh Willett is going to be 152. When is Connor dropping to 171? I don't think Union and Hoptown wrestle, Hoptown always backs out on dual meets so Union didnt schedule them this year.

FYI.  Adam Remines is the 152 for Trinity

did you beat him directly? cause if not that could be the case, otherwise you could have just been on the other side of the bracket as the 1 seed and jordan blakemoore had to wrestle the 1 seed in the semis, where as you had to wrestle him in the finals. give you a better place, but not actually beating him.

He has been at 125.  BUT, my assumption is that Jordan Murphy is going to drop to 125 when Johnson drops to 130 and he will become jv.  Maybe he can go to 119/121, not sure.  Or is he can beat Goodwine.

is Harrison County a 171 now??

Are you serious!!  Not Harrison Courtney the person, it's Harrison County the place!!  It's a county that has a high school, like Woodford county, Meade County, Nelson County and dozens of others....WOW!!

is Harrison County a 171 now??

Now now wrestler92 be nice.  Can't you see he wrote this after midnight.  He must not have had his glasses on.  Even I left this one alone, and no one stirs up controversy like I do.  :-D

the thing i find somewhat funny about this is "shawn112" really does wear glasses

lol oops i was just skimming through and wasnt really reading much sorry about that guys

at regional super duals Kasey Hedges beat shawn johnson at 125. i also heard that johnson quit the team after he lost a couple of matches. im not sure if thats true tho

Alex Grubbs, ranked at 171 in the post-state rankings last year, is wrestling 140 this year for Woodford County and at the Region 7 duals pinned TC Steven Kimbrell in 2:49.

He has been at 125.  BUT, my assumption is that Jordan Murphy is going to drop to 125 when Johnson drops to 130 and he will become jv.  Maybe he can go to 119/121, not sure.  Or is he can beat Goodwine.

I heard Grant Ohlman had his way with J.Murphy at 130, how is he going to handle the speed at 125???????

Wasn't Maupin a 103 last year?

Ohlmann isn't as much speed but strength.. he is one of the strongest wrestlers i have ever seen besides Darren Mitchell from Doss 3 years ago

Wasn't Maupin a 103 last year?
