Knowing WCI, It's probably not over yet. lol :-D
After watching the tournament tonight, I only have one question. Why isn't Isaac Ervin wrestling at 152. I don't believe he can beat either Peace or Courtney, but would dominate this very weak weight group and be a state champ this year as opposed to a 2nd or 3rd place finisher.
is peace at 45 or 40? i keep hearing differen things.
Peace 140
Courtney 145
Matt Green beat Derek Nickel in OT
OK DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANY SCORES!!After watching the tournament tonight, I only have one question. Why isn't Isaac Ervin wrestling at 152. Dakota Choate was a real disappointment tonight. Not because of his poor performance at this tournament, but because he was the ONLY wrestler who wouldn't go up and get his medal during the award ceremony. Yes, he was there, he sat right in front of me during the entire 152 medal presentation. I guess it is beneath a state runner up to bless the crowd with presence on the stand.
The 15-3 loss to Chad Scott was humiliating, but he only compounded the defeat with this kind of behavior.
I realize Dakota is a young man and made an error in judgement, but he needs to be told this is inappropriate and smacks disrespect to his opponents, the fans, and the sport of wrestling. I vividly remember Dakota accepting his silver medal last year at state along side of the 3rd and 4th place finishers.
I believe Dakota Choate's 15-3 loss was to Trent Webb of John Hardin in the semi's; not Chad Scott.
Trent Webb beat Chad Scott 4-2 in the Finals.
103
1. James Badgette Bul Cen (#1 seed)
2. Someone from Westland OH
3. Zac Brown TC (#3 seed)
4. Nick Paden LaRue (#4 seed)
5. Robert Bracco Wood (#7 seed)
6. James Huffine Sou (#2 seed)

Sorry Trent for not giving you credit. My confusing a John Hardin kid with a Woodford County kid could be considered an act of war by some, my apologies.
Matt Green beat Derek Nickel in OT

why you got to be an a**
Because if I have to suffer through all of your posts. You get to suffer through mine.
Off topic though. I should stay Germaine to topic. I will try harder to in the future.
145 Courtney tech fall over westland ohio kid
Harrison looked like a wrestling god on the mat today. I predict Harrison will make it to the junior national finals this year. He will tech fall everyone in the state tourney.

1st off: Dakota Choate just came off of an injury and spent the past week doing what he could to get back in shape and lose quite a bit of weight. He could have owned that tourny and i'm pretty sure that upset him. He also had to wrestle a consolation finals match where the ref, I assume, had no idea what stalling was.
2nd: Nickle vs Green was a very good match. Nickle giving up quite a bit of size did very well and just made a mistake. I think this will be a huge finals match at state this year because that match didn't really prove anything conclusive as to who the better wrestler was.
3rd: I am actually a pretty big Elliot Martin fan but Matt Zarth is by far my favorite 119 to watch. He came in with a pretty hurt leg from what I was told and put up a valiant effort and got dealt some questionable calls. That was my favorite finals match.
Over all the tournament was great when it came to wrestling but there was definately some tension between some fans and refs but, then again, when isn't there.

Choate wasnt there for the finals, he received his medal early because he had to leave. You must have confused another PRP wrestler who stayed for the finals.
Before you trash a kid's character at least learn what he looks like!!
285: was statten and Bullock from lafayette how did that one turn out pin i am guessing??
I know exactly what Choate looks like and I saw him there during the ceremony and during the whole finals, I could even tell you what he was wearing. Thats no sportsmanship at all.
OK i was with Dakota i took him home and he was at the tournament(because he wanted to watch my finals match), but had his medal before the award ceremonies and was confused whether or not he shouldve went up to stand because his medal was with his coach so he didn't know what to do! Dakota is my best friend and i know him very well and he would not intentionally disrespect any person he wrestled or any coach or any person for that matter! It still amazes me how people on this website assume the worst things about people without even knowing them!I know exactly what Choate looks like and I saw him there during the ceremony and during the whole finals, I could even tell you what he was wearing. Thats no sportsmanship at all.
I apologize. I thought I knew the facts and should have done what I wish alot of people on here would do and kept my mouth shut.
I agree with Granby that Dakota is a very respectful person and him getting his medal beforehand led to some confusion.

Why isn't anyone giving the John Kid (Webb) any credit for beating both Dakota and Chad Scott :?
If Dakota wasn't ready to wrestle and put his #1 ranking on the line he should have sat out, due to injury. He wrestled and it didn't work out, NO excusses just facts. Maybe next time the results will be different.
The bracket should the champion as a #5 seed, that seems impressive. :-o
I am glad that information came out. Although I am the one who made the post about this occurrence, I assure you, I was not the only one who noticed his absence on the stand. Few conclusions could be made about what happened last night, none of them favorable for Dakota. If this were not brought up, many would continue to have adverse opinions about him. I am truly relieved to hear how the confusion occurred and it all seems perfectly reasonable. Dakota, you are still OK in my book, thanks for the clarification.
Like many of us, I respect the sport of wrestling and admire Dakota's accomplishments last year. I am sure he is a great kid and will be a competitor down state after resolving his injury.
Trent you looked great last night. Today you should enjoy your victory, tomorrow forget about it and start practicing and preparing for state. You now wear the target on your back.
WOW! whats up with Dakoda is he feeling OK?? This Trent Webb looked unbelievable!! very impressive Webb!Sorry Trent for not giving you credit. My confusing a John Hardin kid with a Woodford County kid could be considered an act of war by some, my apologies.
Old School very well said, and to the point. Dakota is a outstanding wrestler, it just so happend he lost. Your only as good as your last match, next time will be a different out come. Webb very impressive and relentless throughout his matches! Why isn't anyone giving the John Kid (Webb) any credit for beating both Dakota and Chad Scott :?

Does anybody know how McCreary did at WCI other than Staten winning heavyweight?
SENECA FAN, yes Nickel got beat by Matt Green. They are very evenly matched & always have great matches when they wrestle. I wouldn't go shooting my mouth off about saying Derek will get beat & he won't win state. That is not a wise thing to do. Now, on February 17th, if Nickel did not win state, then by all means say you didn't think he would win state, but I would wait until then before I say anything. By the way, I'll see you at church & tell Bryce I said hi. :-o
112:
1st: PD Abdul Aghil
2nd: JH Alex Murphy
3rd: Lar Co Justin Thompson

I say that when you step on the mat you should first understand that there will be a winner a loser when you step off. If you can't handle being a loser than don't step on (if your sick or hurt). Also when you step on the mat you should understand that there will be three of you on the mat and if you leave nothing to chance (keep working until you take the third person out of the match ie. take downs in the middle of the mat not on the edge (you stay in the more middle and make him come to you if he is hugging the edge all the time), when you turn him to his back keep him there longer than 5sec (hold him for 15sec so the Ref has to take a shoe off to count that high), don't ever go to your back (the Ref can't call you pinned if you have the other guy on his back).
If you can do these things, you should do well at state. If you can't do these, then work harder at practice until you can (If you don't want to then try BB, Chess, or knitting)
in think matt miller won 140 at WCI he beat some kid from eastern that was ranked 2 in the state

that was 135 i beileve
it was 135
and i agree with danger zarth is by far my favorite light weight to watch
alhough voth and martin give a close run
zarth has my vote
there was a very bad call towards zarth in the biggining of the match
i think by the crowds reaction they all agreed
285: was statten and Bullock from lafayette how did that one turn out pin i am guessing??
A pin by Statten, the freshman represented. Gr8 match for heavyweights, lots of action by both wrestlers. Impresive pin by Statten.

Sorry but lets be honest, the crowd does not determine whether a call is good or bad, the officials do, I think they are more qualified. The HC fans were on the the other side of the gym and could not see what really happend. Zarth came close to reversing Martin, Martin locked on his ankle to force a stale mate. Zarth was never awarded control, so it is impossible to award any points, because he did not have any control. Martin is a smart wrestler, he did this on purpose to force stale mate, he knew he was in no danger, if he was he would have bailed, he isn't stupid. It was a good call, this is the way it would have been called in any other state or in a college match. That is what happend, there is no argument, both officials obiously knew this was the case as well as the wrestlers. But you didn't mention the fact that Martin turned Zarth to his back and go a two count from the officials, its on the tape, and he recieved no back points, the crowd also booed alot about this. Martin will win by more points next time they wrestle.
lets hope they meet sometime before state
lets hope they meet sometime before state
they possibly could at state duals
Actually I believe the biggest reason they booed was that they thought that Martin pinned himself.

Exhawk, I had a totally different take on that match. I wasn't rooting for a particular wrestler, however, I must admit, I was one of the many booing fans. I booed what I believed to be a blown call. It appeared to me the takedown should have gone to Zarth. Interestingly, Zarth believed he had the takedown that is why he went for Martin's head to score back points. When I found out the official awarded the takedown to Martin, I booed. Again, let me repeat, I was not rooting for Zarth over Martin. I just completely disagreed with the call.
Following the call, the come-from-behind-strategy changed the course of the match for Zarth. Being a ref isn't easy and these kind of calls occur in wrestling. This happens to EVERY wrestler at some point in their career; subjective, questionable calls with no instant replay. Many people believed Martin deserved the takedown.
Both wrestlers looked very good and very evenly matched. Either one could win next time they wrestle.
i couldn't have said it better
that is the exact moment i was talking about and i think it was probably the worst call made all night but whats done is done so oh well
What i saw at wci was pretty pore oficiated by the out of state refs, People dawg ky refs but ford was the best one there. In the martin and zarth match The first take down to martin was questionable but there should have at least been a reversal at the end of the period , either 2-2 or 2-0 zarth at the end of the first!
yep
should have at least went to over time
I usually don't complain about officiating because honestly, it does no one any good. However, the only thing I will say about the officials at the WCI is towards the end of the tournament, it was to the point where I didn't care if they were making consistently good or consistently poor calls or judgements, I just wanted them to be consistent!! The whole tournament, I could never get a feel for whether or not takedowns were going to be awarded or not, when the wrestlers were near the edge of the mat & their feet & knees were ob. As far as Zarth & Martin are concerned, I actually pulled for Elliott because is a Louisville kid, but I think the takedown in the 1st was a poor call. Just my opinion. I'm looking forward to seeing a rematch if it happens. As far as 119 is concerned, don't forget about Voth. His match in the semis against Zarth was just as exciting as Zarth-Martin.
yes all of voth's matches are intense
the miller voth match was amazing
well my boys if you look in the rule book it states that a take down is awarded when the ankle is hooked and the arms are behind the armpits... that happened and a take down was awarded before the scramble even happened. I seriously doubt that zarth thought he had two when the take down was issued when he was laying on his stomach with nothing but an ankle.

Well there you have it. #1fan, you just taught me and 100 booing people in the gym the textbook definition of a takedown! Discussion is now over with your textbook reference. Silly me, I should have read the book before I posted.
Please notice I am not saying Martin would not have won the match anyway. I simply question the takedown call. If Martin were not awarded the takedown, then he would have been losing at the end of the first period and forced to be offensive while Zarth could have been conservative and defensive for the rest of the match. When a good wrestler is up by 2, that can easily end a match, especially when the two are evenly matched. That takedown in the first period dictated the pace and strategy for the remainder but did not necessarily determine who won the match?

There is even a pic in the rule book of this. The leg is in and he was under both arm pits. That is how it is called in college and the ref made the right call there. At the end of the period that was a judgment call about giving points or no points. If there was about 3 more seconds i think that there might have been points given. I just do see how people can sit there and boo a reff. The people that boo are the ones that always complain, but yet have never even thought about being a reff a day in there life. Now that I have said my peace, this was one of the best matches I have seen this year. This weight class is looking to be stacked again this year.
Wrestle4life are you suggesting fans only cheer when we agree with ref's calls? Let me assure you, if refs couldn't psychologically take the booing, they need to get the hell off the mat. Remember, refs volunteer to be paid officials. Their job is to make tough calls in close situations, it's their judgment, not the fans. Booing and cheering is part of all sports. I have never seen a ref cry after a match! But for you to suggest fans should sit idle and simply provide accolades during an emotional sport like wrestling is irrational, fantasyland verbal garbage.

No I am not saying that, bu ow many times do you here of someone going up to a ref and saying" good job" all you hear is the negative and yes they do get paid, but 4 of the refs there took the time to come from west Virgina to do this tournament. All I am saying is do not give these guys a hard time till you lived a day in there shoes.

amen to that!
All i know is that i seems like every single tournament i have been too, the reffing has been horribly inconsistant and filled with bad calls. not even in high stakes matches where you pay attention to the calls most, i would just look around and see bad call after bad call after bad call. it seems that all the refs i have been watching are becoming very inconsistant and calling what is in my opinion a bad call. and #1 fan the points were not already awarded in the zarth match while martin was on his back. the points weren't awarded until zarth was on top and martin was on bottem, and they were in a funk position. neither one had control in my opinion. i actually booed at first because i thought he gave zarthj the takedown and he didnt have control but was on top, then i realized it went to martin and really hated the call.
Good calls, bad calls, questionable calls, close calls, wrong calls. Who cares. Just because we bash refs during close calls doesn't mean they are not respected. Of course being a ref is hard, of course people will cheer them, of course people tell them good job, of course people boo them, of course we complain about them. On a close, questionable call the ref just made 50% fans mad and 50% happy. Amazingly, the refs keep coming back. Many are former wrestlers and being on the mat reffing the sport they love is what they want to do. The day I need to thank a ref for showing up to ref is the day I quit watching the sport. Ref because you love it baby, anything less, go home. Save this holier than though pandering for some sports besides wrestling. Wrestling is not for the weak-hearted or meek. That goes for fans, refs and wrestlers.
well thats pretty straight forward
Talk about everything you want, but no one is taking about the winners, its amazing. John Hardin forfeited 4 weight class and they dominated thats wright dominated!!! To be in reg 8 or 4 as a coach i would be???

That was pretty good but lame.
You better keep your day job or you might be out in the cold with him. lol.
I didn't know JH forfeited 4 weight classes at the WCI. I only thought it was 2. I thought they forfeited 140 & 215. What other weight class did they not have a wrestler compete?
IPEA,
Estivation - I think you may have it wrong, look it up!

Ah, very good. It depends on what "frog" resource you reference. Hibernation is usually for the winter and Estivation for the summer. Google "frequently asked questions about frogs". This particular reference uses estivation as both winter and summer. I believe most frog nerds use the term estivation for frogs going into "torpor" in the winter, lol. Maybe we should ask Frogman, I am sure he or his parents know the answer, lol.

sorry guys it's late and I obviously don't know how to spell forfeit.
Do you mean the 135 & 285 were knocked out on the 1st day? That is way different than forfeiting the weight class.
Our 135 did not make weight and our HWT was not able to attend the second day. It was a very good win for the team but it wasn't domination by any means.
I knew John Hardin looked tough, but they won the WCI? Wow. How did Woodford look overall. Been hearing their guys werent doing the weight assessment or something....Did they have all of their wrestlers at their weight they are going to wrestle for the regional tournament?
Is Lewis ever going to wrestle? That kid has really went downhill....
Why was huffine seeded ahead of brown. Also has huffine lost to bracco 3 times now.
And isn't Badgett a 112?

no only twice
