who has surprised you the most (good or bad) with their wrestling this year.
most surprising wrestler

I cant believe all the negative talk about dc evans. I thought he looked about untouchable last year at the state tournament. I mean come on he wrestled with Travis Sullivan. THat kid is as tough as nails.
Cant wait to see who surprises everyone at state. There is always one unknown that comes out of the wood works.
scotty hogan-130. Doogans cousin :-D
HE really has stepped up...Last year he was usually one mistake a match from going to the next level. He should have a good year. If he keeps improving may place his senior year. 130 is definately not the hardest spot in region I, but not a cakewalk with Skinner and Ervin.
Aaron Newsome 171 pounder for John Hardin

How is he a surprize :?
He has improved so much or he is a good wrestler that transfered into KY
From what I've read he is a very talented wrestlers that transfered in and landed on John roster
Next we will hear how Coach Smith or Joe B was a great influence on his wrestling technique :-D
Everyone gets a good transfer every now and then, this kid has made the John line-up pretty solid.
I hope he continues to have sucess.
scotty hogan is good but he was seeded first the easiest rout to the finals but he lost in the first round but dont get me wrong he is goog
John Smothers from Doss. The kid has improved tremendously from last year.
freshman Zach Tucker from Southern come out of no where and he is doing really good

Who has he beaten?
Aaron Newsome, 171 JH, what a wonderful suprise, not expected. But what I think is the suprise, is he has been so successful at this weight class. He's beat some top class wrestlers. With suprising, a few along the way up the rankings. A major anchor in John's up weight class's.

I would agree :-D
Frogman is right, Newsome is a surprise to KY because he is new but shouldnt be a surprise because he has had past experience and talent. The thing I said about scotty hogan was a joke, i just said it because his coach talks about him all the time... no way a first seed should lose in the first round
I saw Newsome wrestle and i don't think he is anything that special i think he will get destroyed by reid, Hitchings and BRownfield
have you seen the guy in person...he is soo freakin arrogent and cocky, if he dont pinn you then he throws a hissy fit right in front of everyone, cusses you out and the coaches if he feels like it.the guy just doesnt have a good attitude. and i agree reid would dominate him honestly i think he would have a horrible time with matt neal...that is a beast of a dude right there
This is an untrue statement. Aaron is a good kid, he gets angry at himself at times. He does not curse at the coaches, (Adam Lindsey would not stand for that).have you seen the guy in person...he is soo freakin arrogent and cocky, if he dont pinn you then he throws a hissy fit right in front of everyone, cusses you out and the coaches if he feels like it.the guy just doesnt have a good attitude. and i agree reid would dominate him honestly i think he would have a horrible time with matt neal...that is a beast of a dude right there
His coach talks about him all the time. He is a surprise this year. he has made tremendous strides. He just got caught by a stronger kid with less ability as he was shooting in for a fireman

The tennesse team that wore the white singlets. It was like 6-0. He tries to use power moves alot, and that kid was one of the bigger 130
I never placed. The best I did was 3-2. What's that have to do with Doogans cousin? Who has he beat that is ranked up there? Bryce is surprising me. But after last years match with Parks I don't think there is as much of a surprise. I don't think Dee will run away with regions either. Isaac Thomas gave him a good match at the takedown tourny.
Takedown tournaments are not that accurate on the outcome of an actual match. Someone good on their feet, may not be able to wrestle on the mat. Just curious whenever you talk about a wrestler not being that good, or critisizing someone, just wondered how good of a wrestler you were.
I never said he wasn't good did I? No I didn't. Takedown tournaments aren't accurate but Isaac did wrestle myron Bradbury and lost 5-2. How would dee do?
now given on how scotty has improved is surprising. He says he works hard to get better. Maybe an upset at regions this year like brack had last year? It should be interesting.
Bradbury bumped up I heard. If a full strength Dee at 114 wrestled Bradbury at 105 lbs, I think Dee beats him hands down. Nine pounds is quite a jump in wrestling. I was ranked fifth my senior year and wrestled a football boy ranked about 6th at a weight class five pounds heavier. it was a tight match, but he won. When you give up 9 pounds at the lower levels of weight that is a big jump.

[/q WOW!!! I did not know Campbell Co. wrestled John Yet! U must be like Santa Clause. Flying all over the state, watching all the wrestlers, knowing if they have been shooting or stalling all night. Oh!! let me pinch my self I'm Santa's Elf NOT!!
Not like, he IS Santa Claus. I know for a fact because we had a big fight when he parked his sleigh on my lawn last summer and Rudolph left a mess on the sidewalk. I was really mad so I hung with Fuller for the first minute or so, but then he spladled me and I haven't been the same since.
Bradbury did not bump up a weight class. He is at 103. At least now he is.
I think one of the most surprising wrestlers this season is one of my boys 145 Judson Pitman. He is a junior and is 21-2 for the season this year. His only losses were Clay Overby 12-9 in the finals of the Caldwell Tournament and Kelly Law, some kid from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He has really stepped it up.
David Liebrum isn't a great wrestler, but from the first day of practice weiging 198lbs to now only weighing 170lbs he has definitely improved. Now he is a pretty good wrestler and if he keeps improving he might be able to suprise some people at state. He is like a brick wall and he is pretty quick on his feet, but lack of experience might catch him off guard early. I think it will be an exciting thing to watch!
This is an untrue statement. Aaron is a good kid, he gets angry at himself at times. He does not curse at the coaches, (Adam Lindsey would not stand for that).
meadecowrestler get off Aaron's jock ok. Next he is a great wrestler, He is cocky at times but who isn't if you say your not your a lier and I know Aaron doesn't shot off at the mouth because I have know Coach Adam Lindsey for a very very long time and I know he would not stand for any of that, You would be gone. If he and Reid ever wrestle it will be a awesome match between a pair of Kentucky's best wrestlers.

So Reid would pin him in about 0:25? I figure if Hitchings was worth 0:50, He'd be about half that.
lol....nice way to put it flyboy or what ever.....yea i am cocky but yea reid would make it a 30 sec. match maybe a min if he was feeling nice....but point is the state champ is a beast ....newsome (from what i seen at the cent. hardin meet) is cocky but hey im cocky so what ever!!!lol peace out
Just want to clarify a few things. The Hitchings/Newsome match was 10-6. Aaron was down by 2 with a few seconds left and gave up another 2 trying a desperation move. It was one of the better matches that day. Also I would like to say that for the most part Aaron is a good kid but just like all teenagers has done a couple of stupid things but has also paid the consequences for them. He is a supprise in that nobody knew of him before the year but if we are talking about a supprise in the sense of most improved then no he is not.
morlatt is surprising me this year, not at how well he is wrestling but how poor he is. he's a state runner up and a very good wrestler but he isn't really showing it early on in the season. does anyone know if he maybe has an injury, or if he's sick?

he's a state runner up, but he did have a dang easy bracket at state last year.

Morlatt had a horribly easy state bracket. If you look it over, he would have done worse to take 1st in his region.
While his road to the finals was easier than most, Mills, Ohlman, and Slone is still no cake walk and a fine accomplishment

Mills isn't and will never be in the same league as those guys. Ohlmann was passed around that year by Morlatt, Zeppa, Vaughn (i think), and a few others. Slone was a good win.
Like I said it was easier than most but he still had to wrestle some solid guys to get to the finals
Why dog Morlatt? He wrestled his tail off at state that's all that matters. He beat the guys he was put against you cannot dog him for winning and for that matter how the bracket was set up.

Dog, aint dogging him, just pointing out what I think. besides if we all agreed, then we'd just sit around and listen to stories from the old people.

And actually now that you mention that Mills beating Ohlman pretty handily at JCTC before he got stuck, I'd say he can hang with these guys

Mills definately is up there. He just has some things to work on but he was giving it to Grant at JCTC.

Still got stuck.
I was just saying that I think Mills can hang with those guys.
If Mills could get healthy, I think everything else could fall in line for him. Top 6 is not a stretch for a healthy Mills.

Exactly. PRP has just had a rough time with health this season. Should be back to full strength around state.

And don;t get me wrong, i don't think Mills is a crap wrestler, or that PRP sucks in any way. I just don't see Mills being a top 8.
the most improved would have to be Robert Noe from southern who placed 5th in region and now is ranked 12th in the state that's a big jump i have to say good job
