Ranger

Thanks.  I saw that he wrestled up in a couple of duals, but thought that may have been strategy.

Wow I just noticed that in just one week, 6 guys lost there #1 ranking.  Id say that the Christmas break was not to kind to #1 ranked guys and defending state champs.

I have no complaints Ranger123 these are the best I have seen yet. Great job. :-)

whats up @ HWT the kid frow McC. Is ranked 6 just because he won WCI....  Also Bullock ive seen this kid get beat a few times and he never drops....... By doing a little research i found that 10 Bell WAY 10 has beat both shouldnt he be ahead of these two?????? Zarth has been beat a couple times why dont he drop?? 130- Josh Johnson will kill Ervin....

I have never talked about the rankings before but I have to ask. When u looked at the wci did u get the finals off the real brackets or the brackets that someone wrote in and then posted on the website, because those brackets were all wrong. In 135 bollman came in fifth only behind miller poulton Davis and guiler and pinned routt n the first period to get fifth. Not sure how I dropped that low

How is Andy Lenz rated in front of Zac Brown at 103?? Brown defeated Lenz.

I heard that lenz was beat by brown to but how did badgett get ranked so high when he was beat by andy lenz

I heard that lenz was beat by brown to but how did badgett get ranked so high when he was beat by andy lenz

well badgette beat the kid that beat zac brown at wci.

I am the one that posted the brackets and yes I know I made a couple mistakes.  They stopped posting official results after the round of wrestlebacks that followed the semis.  I checked every 30 minutes and they did not update the brackets.  With 4 mats going for the 5th and 3rd place matches I did my best to find out who was in those matches and who won.  I posted the brackets for everybody to look at and also mentioned that their might be errors and two were pointed out.  The first was the situation you are talking about and the other is the morlatt/miley match.  I apologize if your or anybodies rankings are messed up because of an error I made on the brackets.  I did the best I could and spent an hour scanning and posting for all to look at.

Here is what I would say to those of you who are saying A defeated B.

When did it happen?  Was it earlier in the year?  If so then it was already considered in the rankings.

When these rankings are updated only the previous week affects the rankings.

Why isn't KY football in the championship game?  They defeated LSU. Here is why.

Example.  John Smith was pre season #1  Mike Hunt was pre season #2 and Semore Butts was pre season #7.

Week one:  Smith defeaters Hunt. Rankings do not change.

Week three:  Butts defeats Smith.  Butts becomes #1  Smith Becomes #2 and Hunt #3.

Week five:  Hunt defeats Butts and Smith looses to Sam Sneed (ranked 10):  Hunt becomes new #1, Hunt is now #2 and Smith moves to #5.

As you can see Smith defeated Hunt, Hunt defeated Butts and Butts defeated Smith.  And Sneed defeated Smith.

It becomes difficult in a competitive wt. class as the season gets longer.

Zac Brown has only lost once since wrestling Lenz and it was to a kid from Ohio, who lost to Badgett in the WCI finals. I can understand Badgett jumping Brown since he beat the guy who beat Brown, but Brown wrestled some pretty stiff competition in the WCI consolation bracket and beat them all.

CoachJ you did a fabulous job. Some folks failed to read what you wrote. Please, if some one can do better repost the brackets in stead of complaining. Its not easy trying to keep up with the results and coaching!!THANKS COACHJ YOUR AWESOME!!

ya he went out in one of the first rounds and took third wrestling through just about every round of consolation.

he beat milford, paden, the seneca kid, i think bracco, and i think the south oldam kid all in the consolations.

IN all do respect, it really doest matter where u are ranked, 3 weeks ago 2weeks ago or 1 week ago. It only matters how u wrestle your last match. Point, you are only as good as your last match, wrestlers have to be at the top of your game each and every time your on the mat!! Keep your head up and move forward, don't get caught up on where you think you should be ranked, stay focused on your goal!!!

Well said Frogman....Rankings will not give you the heart to pull out a come from behind match at state. Keeping your mind on the goal. I think that is the best a wrestler has put it all year.

Robbie Sahms of Ft. Campbell should be ranked he pinned his way through the Christian County Inv. He pinned Brandon Tibaldi Call. Co. in the first period, probably the first min. of the first period.

Korey Polley from Chr. Co. is in the 7th grade.

Coty wood 105??

Coty wood 105??

has he even wrestled at 105?

dustin thomas is highly overrated and why did i drop to 14 i've beatin and kept up with some big names at 130

why rip dustin?have you seen him wrestle this year?

What Hapend to the 215 pounder Deon Chaney from Fern Creek

He quit according to people on the Fern Creek team at Mater Dei.

dustin thomas is highly overrated and why did i drop to 14 i've beatin and kept up with some big names at 130

Theres no way you dropped to 14th because Corey Mills is at 14th.  That is not you because he does not get on this site.  If you are going to say stuff make sure you have your facts straight.

How is Andy Lenz rated in front of Zac Brown at 103?? Brown defeated Lenz.

Since it seems you know Brown so well, you should also know that he and Lenz have gone back and forth many times over the last year and a half.  The two are very evenly matched and the outcome will likely change back and forth as they wrestle a couple more times this season.

Yes, I give a lot of credit to winning WCI.  It is one of the biggest tournaments in KY and being 2 days one of the few that has the multi-day format (individual bracket).  Well obviously Bullock did drop or Staten couldn't have moved to #6.  Please send me links to your research.  I don't get the Monkey's Eyebrow Gazette, so don't reference results published in a local flyer.  I haven't been able to find the names of more than 1 or 2 Ky kids that Bell has wrestled.  Post what you have.  Zarth is a state champ.  Plain and simple.  He has proven that he can get the job done on the mat when all the chips are the table.  And I believe anyone at 119 that has beat him is ranked above him.  By the way, going from #1 to #3 is a drop no matter how you look at it.  I don't know what your definition of kill is, but unless he brings a knife onto the mat I don't see any killing going on.  I could use a nice pizza on a Saturday night in Frankfort.  And I would guess killing would be a 12+ point decision or pin.

has he even wrestled at 105?

I don't know, but you have until state duals to get down to weight.  And a trusted source told me it was going to happen.  Not someone who gets on here whining.

hey i dont agree with the rankings at all at 125

I hope you didn't go to all of the trouble to register on this site for that post.

why rip dustin?have you seen him wrestle this year?

I agree.  Unless you are going to tell me you beat him, what's your point in saying he is overrated.  And I believe I have seen Deinlein own you in the past.  Just get the job done on the mat and you will move up appropriately.

I agree with ranger I think to few teams host individual tourneys and the WCI being a two day individual tournament and with a lot of the top teams in the state there winning it means a lot.

ive grown a littl over winter brake and am going to stay at 119 this season. 112 would kill me at state and tomorrow

whats up @ HWT the kid frow McC.

I gotta disagree with the Johnson will kill Ervin comment.  Watch out for Ervin, he is very, very tough.  I expect a very good match between these 2.

Since it seems you know Brown so well, you should also know that he and Lenz have gone back and forth many times over the last year and a half.  The two are very evenly matched and the outcome will likely change back and forth as they wrestle a couple more times this season.

I think Andy Lenz is really good, and yes I do know that, however the only history on the mat this year has Brown winning and doesn't explain how Lenz jumps in front of him, I'm not trying to denigrate the ratings that you do, because I think everyone agrees that the job you do is tremendous and few others would even attempt it, I was looking for a explanation as to why.

u dont agree with the 125 rankings then just dont look at them at all

I gotta disagree with the Johnson will kill Ervin comment.  Watch out for Ervin, he is very, very tough.  I expect a very good match between these 2.

I do believe it will be a close match but I still think Johnson will come out on top by  3 or 2 at least.

I have been impressed with how competitive Lenz was against some tough competition at 112.  So, with the 2 being even I gave Lenz the nod.  If Brown wins the next matchup (2 wins this season over Lenz) he gets the spot.  Essentially, the two are equal in my mind.

As I read the Josh/Caleb debate I have to laugh because knowing Josh he either doesn't care about being ranked one or two or hides it very well.  He just goes out there and does everything he can to win his next match.  Also if I was going to bet, and I am a betting man, I would think Caleb is the same way.  They do have one common opponent in the top 10, Carmen, but that is not enough to make a clear determination on who is better.

I think the rankings should be used as motivation and nothing else. If you are ranked first keep working hard to stay there. if you are not then work hard to get there. If you are ranked behind somebody don't complain just work harder and prove you should be ranked ahead of them.

I agree.  Unless you are going to tell me you beat him, what's your point in saying he is overrated.  And I believe I have seen Deinlein own you in the past.  Just get the job done on the mat and you will move up appropriately.

I've seen thomas wrestle our jv kid and he gave him a match and i'm not impressed i'm 1-1 against deinlein this year i lost to him by 2 and beat him by 3

I've seen thomas wrestle our JV kid and he gave him a match and I'm not impressed I'm 1-1 against deinlein this year i lost to him by 2 and beat him by 3

Did Dustin win? You go out there and get wins, it doesn't matter how little or how big a win is a win. But I have to say you cannot get caught up in rankings at the moment because all that matters is what happens on the mat in February.

its his seanor year, he got 2nd in state and quit!?!?

its his seanor year, he got 2nd in state and quit!?!?

If you are talking about Chaney, I suspect that a provision of a football scholarship, if that is the reason, stongly discourages him from Wrestling in his senior year.

I do believe it will be a close match but I still think Johnson will come out on top by  3 or 2 at least.

I agree with you there, I think Josh will win it, but i just seriously doubt it will be a "kill".  We'll see.  That will be another great match to watch for down state.

If you are talking about Chaney, I suspect that a provision of a football scholarship, if that is the reason, stongly discourages him from Wrestling in his senior year.

Deon has been at practice this week and will be back for the Fern Creek/LaRue/Nelson Co dual.  He has been in the stands all day at Jefferson Co Tournament of Champions.

what school are u and ur jv kid from?

Ranger, at 112 tyler boone and micheal boone are the same person, also his little brother chase boone at 103 pinned korey polley last weekend at the Christian county inv. and beat him by ten in the JV CCI

Yes, I saw Deon today & after talking to him he is supposedly wrestling.  That is a good thing.  He has talent & will help add depth to the 215 weight class this year.

Ranger, at 112 tyler boone and micheal boone are the same person, also his little brother chase boone at 103 pinned korey polley last weekend at the Christian county inv. and beat him by ten in the JV CCI

Thanks for pointing that out.  I knew that, but didn't realize I left both on the list.

matt neal will dominate against brownfield.... I've even talked to some campbell county kids and they agree.. if it will be close the only reason would be cause brownfield is slightly defensive.

austin stepp 160 from sc beat ben fisher from letcher who is ranked 12th at 171?  i guess he changed weight classes? they wrestled at the AMVETS tourney today..

Vince staten from McCreary is over rated he was beaten by Sheldon Clark's heavy weight 2-0 with Sheldon controlling the match and only defeated the letcher county heavyweight 7-4.

I'd say from Sean Gillespie's(Trinity's 119) performance at JCTC that he is just a little bit overrated

Wheres boone in those rankings how is homles better than boone. boone beat them bad.

Jefferson County Tournament of Champions things to note-

Maybe Sheldon Clark's heavyweight heavyweight is way too far underated.  Didn't he also place at Grundy?

Smith did not pin Wexlier. It was 11-4

And Olhman did not pin Miller.  He won by points

In the 103 finals it was Bradbury over Hoskinson 8-1.(Hoskinsons nose was bleeding badly and blood time had to be called 3 or 4 times)

In the 119 finals it was Martin pinning his kid in the first period.

In the 189 finals the Trinity 189 apparently broke his elbow and the match went to the other wrestler by default.

The 285 match was very good it was 3 to 4 I think.

7th grader Wade Holtsclaw JH has beat Casa Del Valle Senca and James Huffine Southern.

Remember to report it both ways.  The Seneca kid beat Holtsclaw at WCI last week.

All of you Vince Staten haters, have you ever watched high school heavyweights wrestle?  On any day anything can happen.  Staten won one of the biggest tournaments in KY.  Give the kid some credit.  I know you teams in Region 8 hate each other with a passion, but try to be a little objective.  Okay, he lost a close match to a likely underrated kid from SC.  That's why we wrestle the matches and don't let the paper (rankings) decide the outcome.

Hitching beat Dunn by points not a pin.  It should have been closer but Hitching did a good job of keeping pressure on Dunn and not letting him get a chance to do anything.

I think the best heavyweight match was the one with the Moore kid against Whiting.  Second was probably the Iroquois kid vs. Whitting.  I think those two were the ones that took it to him the most, he doesn't look as impressive as everyone makes him out to be.  He was gassed when he had two matches withing 2 hours of each other.

The rankings look good except you have some Johnson Central kids out of place. Spencer is at 112, Salyers is at 119,and JJ Jude is at 130. Also jude stuck Trey Morllat in the first period at the tates creek tourn and Tyler Grimm is at 140.

Ranger I'm not a Vince Staten hater but i watched this kid wrestle Three matches. Him getting beat 2-0 with Sheldon Clark dominating the entire match. A 7-4 win with the last 2 points coming on a desperation shot with about ten seconds left. A a match against the Sheldon Clark backup. Vince was on his back when the second period ended but went on to win the match. I do give him credit for winning The WCI but as you said on any given day anything can happen and maybe thats what happened for Vince at WCI. I just think he is a little overrated at 6th. I didn't mean to offend anybody and i don't hate any team in region 8. In fact i have the up most respect for all of the teams in region 8.

I think Logan Hull should be up around 13'ish he has beatn:

#5- Chad Scott beat #2- Ryan Dillion like 10-2 this weekend at the Conner Inv. Dillion seems to be kinda overrated. Scott has also beat Ryan Vaughn btw. Good Job on the rankings though.

Vince Staten is a great wrestler I have been watching him even through middle school and he is good. I see it as if you win the biggest in season tournament in state you should be ranked where you win. He beat everyone at WCI he should be ranked above everyone at WCI.

Scott beat vaughn because vaughn scissored the head hahaha it was a close evenly matched match thoughh

So that means that the Sheldon Clark Heavyweight so now be ranked ahead of Staten??

I'm not saying that he isn't a good wrestler maybe just a little over rated at sixth.

Yes, I'll agree with you there.  And you'll see it Wednesday night.

That all that i was saying and i meant no offense to vince staten or anyone on the McCreary team

at 152, kevin snyder beat kevin porter 7-0, and also beat cameron broussard.

Now with the important Jefferson Co. Tournament completed it will be interesting to see how this affects the rankings.  Moore (4th) and St. Xavier (3rd) should be moving up the state's team list.

Many individuals will have important changes to their rankings if the list is kept accurate and current.

Hitching did not pin Dunn, it was like 8-2. Whitting beat Smith, Payne, and Farley (Moore) all by 1 or 2.

Now with the important Jefferson Co. Tournament completed

Why is this more important than any other tourney?

Moore (4th) and St. Xavier (3rd) should be moving up the state's team list.

Only if individuals defeated individuals ahead of them.

Why is this more important than any other tourney?

Grappler, this has been said 1000 times already.  I swear an IQ test needs to be required.

WE GET IT!  YOU THINK ST X IS GOOD!

St. X fans, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your team is appropriately ranked at 31 (give or take a few places). St. X has only 2 kids ranked in the top 14, one ranked 7th and one ranked 12. That alone, does not predict a good turn out for state. The Jefferson County tournament is not considered, by most, to be a tough tourney. School pride is great, but really, quit trying to sell your team as being better than they are.

I think St. X will prove some people wrong and place a little higher, not top 10 but in the top 20.  They always seem to be up there and are hard working kids and Coach K usually gets them ready.

at 152, kevin snyder beat kevin porter 7-0, and also beat cameron broussard.

Snyder looked really tough this weekend. He really stepped up and even had a close match with Cody Mann.

I'm sure Coach K will have them contending for a top 5 or 10 finish in the near future.  BUT, I think he still has some work to do to build them back up.  The JCTC is usually a very good tournament, but some of the powerhouse teams of Louisville are down this season or don't have their usual depth.

he's talking about dropping weight. Moving down a weight class.

Since it seems you know Brown so well, you should also know that he and Lenz have gone back and forth many times over the last year and a half.  The two are very evenly matched and the outcome will likely change back and forth as they wrestle a couple more times this season.

Ranger, i just figured i would let ya no im down to 162 now...

Why is this more important than any other tourney?

Belated answer is you need to re-read the post.  No one stated it was the MOST important tourney.  It remains simply important because it has a large number of teams from one community,  it has an important history, and garnered huge media attention.  Getting media attention from the sports section is critical to growing this sport.
