It is very important. The team standings at the end of traditional state and team state is always different. Being able to train a few outstanding atheletes is vastly different from putting together a complete quality team.
A side not: Union has put together an amazing dual team and tournament team. It's hard to do both.
Team competition was a huge part of my wrestling experience. My freshman year our team lost it's first dual meet in ten years, from that point on It's was my teams goal to be the beginners of a new streak. My team wasn't that talented, but when Wednesdays rolled around we somehow found the ability to put all our grudges and differences away and pull together as a solid unit. "All for one, and one for all" that was our team motto. It seemed like every meet came down to the heavy weights. Our team would begin our chant of "Arther, Arther, Arther," this was the name of our gentle giant heavyweight, who at the sound of his name being chanted would transform into a vicious opponent who somehow tapped into a level of wrestling skill and ability that he never showed in practice. Twenty years later the guys on that team are still my best friends and I believe that it was those Wednesday night battles that bonded us together for a lifetime.
The state duals in Indiana is run by IHSAA. I believe this year will be the last....They continue hosting the Individual state with team points.
Reason: Lack of support by fans. (money)
