Bowling Green area Wresting?

Topic ID: 3204 | 7 Posts

My family moved to Bowling Green a year ago and was pretty shocked that there was no wrestling program at any of the area high schools. What happened?

I coached a youth club back in Indiana and my 4 stepsons wrestled also and it's killing them that there is not a wrestling program around Bowling Green.

I have emailed the AD at the high school where the boys will attend in the future and hope to hear back from him. I would love to get the program back up and running if given the chance.

Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

Start a program :-D be the coach

That's my plan, but I'm pretty sure you have to be a licensed teacher to be a head coach at the High School level...I've seen where a teacher who nothing about wrestling applied for head coach but his assistant was really the head coach.

The school/school board has to be willing to start the program back up, see if funds are available to purchase wrestling mats and equipment, let alone a wrestling room.

not true all you really need is at least 64 credit hours.  i feel your pain i started going to WKU hoping that a high school would have a team to go watch but nothing.

The first thing is get numbers. ask and maybe start a petition to get numbers wanting to start a program. next get the blessing of the principle at the school you want it at. next approach the superintendent with the program proposal and get him to put it on the agenda for the board to vote on it. This is what i had to do to get middle School programs approved for Hardin County schools with a paid coach. It's a long process but worth it if approved.

I hate to say this, but beggars can't be choosers.  You would be extremely lucky to get a dedicated wrestling room in the state of Ky at a startup school.  You can ask for another room such as a classroom, and move the desks & chairs out before & after practice or a cafeteria.  Good luck to you, that's a bummer.
