I see a lot of kids have tats these days. WHat do you think?
Tattoos

we have a joke at caldwell makin fun of clay overbey, that if you have a tatto you're an instant state champ. he's a BAD dude.
The only problem I have are the under age wrestlers getting tattoos. You must be 18 to get a tattoo. You can have parental concent, but I personally think they are a form of mutilation to the body.
I know wrestlers must be somewhat masochistic, but this is going to far.

Good lord, you are so old. It is what it is, and a part of our culture. That won't change anytime soon.

I think that you should listen to him, I understand it's cool now, but what happens when you realize that you didn't want a generic tatoo.. You probably would feel stupid. If its a tatoo that has a good and real meaning to it, they won't regret it. And I agree with the 18 years old idea, it's stupid if the parent allows it, the kid doesn't know if he wants that tatoo...
I think Jacob Shely has the coolest tattoo in the state. Even though its only half of one!!
i think it was ohio countys guy who was the 145 i believe had some pretty sweet tattoos....they looked tight!!!
Peaces Tat..

That does not mean that I can't try to change it. Much like my parents tried to change our long hair of the 80's.
As I stated when they are 18 I can accept it.
At 18 you are suppose to be old enough to make major decisions on your own. (In many cases this is still questionable) Remember these are permanent marks on your body. Are you really ready to make that decision when you are 16 years old.
A skull and cross bones on your chest may be cool when you are 16-25 but what about those skull and crossbones when you are a grandfather?
Sometimes the tattoos have real meaning. Vines with family members who have passed away on them.
It is my preference for my children and they will not have them until they are 18 and moved out of my house.
The only ones who think it's cool are kids. Just like with anything else, you get tired of it. Like a car or clothes. You just can't get rid of it as easy as a car or clothes. That's why people get them changed or removed. Personally, not impressed with any of them.
Tattoos are a sign of weakness. They are kids that have fear in there hearts, that are trying to scare their opponents. They receive very little or no attention from the people that should be giving them attention their parents .It also shows that parents are not the parents. they just go along with anything the kids want because they feel guilty for something that has happened some where along the way .When their are no boundaries set by parents, kids well push until they get their way. Eventually, a break down of communication comes about and the parents wonder what has happened. I feel that the KHSAA should have rules related to this issue. When my son or daughter moves out of the house and decides to move to California to join the Hells Angels, I will buy them a tricycle until then they will have to ride in my 1968 Station Wagon. Sign of weakness? Don't think so. They're self expression, nothing more nothing less.

i completely agree

What a expression of there stupidity. lol. Come there is no good reason to mark your body like that. If my kid ever came home with a tattoo I would cut it off them. There tacky and ridiculous. But hey that's just my two cents.

Frogman, you're the man! You may be joking around, but I agree with everything you said. And, as for being old-fashioned, I know kids who have sense enough to say, "Yeah, I don't know how that big eagle or snake or whatever is going to look when it's hanging off a flabby arm or belly."
haha, when your old and wrinkly I really doubt a tattoo is going to matter.
My wife calls tattoos, tramp stamps???
I never told her in high school I always tried to date the chicks with tattoos. Usually made for an adventurous date.

Self expression, nothing more. Cutting it off? Child abuse. Nothing more.
My 3 year old son wanted a tattoo of Barney. Although it was self expression, I told him no. When he was 17 he wanted a tattoo of a snake. I told him he should be glad I wouldn't allow self expression when he was 3. When he is 40, he will also be glad I didn't allow self expression when he was 17.
OK, this didn't really happen, but it just makes a point.
I honestly can't stand when people say, "it's going to look terribly when you're all old and wrinkly!" To be completely honest with you, by the time I'm like.. 70 or however old I am when I get wrinkly there will be 3 things you should think about:
1. No one will be looking at me anyway, I'm old as dirt.
2. Your skin is ugly regardless at that age, what's some ink?
3. Who knows if I'm going to live to be old enough to be wrinkly? I could still be madly in love with my tattoos when I die.
You can't really say if they are right or wrong. Just accept them, they are apart of our culture and will be for a long time. If you don't like them, don't look.
i had to wrestle a kid with a tattoo once. it scared the crap out of me. But really if you get a tattoo to express yourself, then when you grow up and like different stuff, you will regret it. And then i will laugh at you. haha.
I keep hearing its a form of self expression. What exactly are you expressing.
No sarcasm here, it's an honest question. I don't get the "SELF EXPRESSION" statement.
To me its a phrase used by someone who just wants to do something that they have no real reason for doing. IE: Tattoos, earrings, piercing, saggy pants, tight pants, tongue splitting etc. etc.
I would say it is more a way of expressing something about yourself that you don't really have. It becomes necessary to get this artificial marking on your body to tell everyone who you really are. And without that snake or skull or barney you would still be that boring wimp. But the tatoo suddenly makes you cool or a tough guy.
I've always wanted one but couldn't bring myself to do it for religious reasons. It is specifically addressed in the bible and is considered a sin. Knowing that it makes it hard to get it done. I feel like I'm automatically condemning myself. I was branded when I was young. I think that falls in the same realm but I didn't know about it being addressed in the bible at that time. Can I claim stupidity when I stand before the pearly gates? I'm not preaching here. Just sayin why I never got one.
Only kidding on who signed it! Thanks! MatMama! nice to know that there are responsable parents that read this stuff!Frogman, you're the man! U are excactley wright! just because u want to express your self does not mean it's wright. SheHateMe speak your mind dont feel pressured by the liberal meadia here, let it rip.I've always wanted one but couldn't bring myself to do it for religious reasons. Do you feel this way about every sin you commit? Seriously? Just a Question!!!I've always wanted one but couldn't bring myself to do it for religious reasons. Wow, that kind of concerns me if you look at his tattoo & that image instantly pops in your head. I hope you're not offended that you are not one of those 2 guys. :-D Seriously though, I personally don't believe in them or really like them, but if someone is willing to live with the potential consequences later in life so be it. My son will not have one before he turns 18, but after that, he is an adult and can make his own choices.
Do you feel this way about every sin you commit? Seriously? Just a Question!!!
I just never could do it for that reason. Not preachin just sayin.
As far as my other sins. No, but thats for me and St. Peter to wrestle about one day.
I think all chicks should have tatoos for those "adventrous dates"....lol. Its hott. Unless they are fat and ugly.I never told her in high school I always tried to date the chicks with tattoos. Usually made for an adventurous date.
This is a wrestling sight if you want to bash God find another place to do that.
i have a tatoo, i dont believe that it is wrong to have one. but i can definantly respect those who are reliligously convicted not to get them.
This is a wrestling sight if you want to bash God find another place to do that.
It's not a place to promote God either now is it?
If you're going to say anything at all about the discussion of God on the site make it "God does not need to be discussed in any way on the forums". Not "don't bash God" or "don't talk about other's religions".
I'm not bashing god, I'm bashing short sighted people who use god to bash others.

now this isnt completely true you cant judge someone on a tattoo. you make it seem like and kid with a tattoo has a bad home life. this just isnt true. yes i agree they should wait until they are 18.(i had to do it and it was not that bad to wait to know exactly what you want) but to say a tattoo is a reflection on a kids life is crazy

OK maybe I'm just close minded, or short sighted, to old, or just plain dumb. But I don't think my question was answered. I still don't really know what is being expressed by a tattoo and the other forms I stated.
This old fart is just trying to understand the meaning. It all seems to have originated from prison Tat's and Dennis Rodman.
My wife calls tattoos, tramp stamps???
Tattoo...lower back, might as well be a bullseye!
i've got a tattoo of my last name across my back to me it always lets me know who i am and where i came from, or when i get old and can't remember how to spell it i just have to find a mirror, i believe that they are OK as long as it something that means something to you, but everybody has there own opinion
I don't really care for tattoos myself and won't let my sons have them until their 18. My oldest son did get one practically the day he turned 18. I didn't see it until I was at his wrestling tournament and lots of people were around. When I thought about it, I still didn't like it but there are a lot of worse decisions a young person can make like using drugs, stealing and hurting people. So if he wants a tattoo and he's otherwise a good young man I'm happy!
I'm not bashing god, I'm bashing short sighted people who use god to bash others.
If you feel convicted go to a alter otherwise lay off god and three. He only voiced his opinion, you don't like it oh well we all don't agree on everything everyone says around here, now do we.
Hold on now. I wasn't throwing god or bashing anything. I was stating that I couldn't get past it but I always wanted one. I am in no way trying to put my views on others. I read it and couldn't bring myself to get one, it just really stuck in my mind. It was more an analogy of how little things like that will stick in your head. I think my previous posts stated that. I didn't think by mentioning the bible I was hitting anyone over the head with it.
Fine my apologizes.
I saw a wrestler from Ohio Co. yesterday, maybe 140, that looked like he had a flaming pair of undies on his chest. He had several, but that one really stuck out to me.

There is something very wrong with that! LOL
I agree with tatoos if they have personal meaning or represent something about the person who has it
When I posted this thread I didn't want to start some kind of rediculous debate about tattoos. I am reading these posts and I am laughing my butt off! Parents aren't parents if they let their kids get a tattoo? WHAT!!! You are crazy! A sign of weakness? Haha! All I asked was who has the coolest tattoo. JESUS!

Well, you obviously raised a controversial subject! But I am another parent who would never consent to my child getting a tatoo. My hope was by the time they were 18 they would have better sense. My oldest did go get a very tiny one that's only visible when his shirt is off. But even he thinks kids with big ones will be sorry one day.
some people are rediculous on here. signs of weakness? bad home life? i believe this would be stereo-typing every person with a tat. every person gets one for different reasons, even if it is just because they wanted to get one. i've seen many tattoos that i would never get, and i dont agree with such as curse words, girlfriends names, derogatory statements, and really generic ones but who am i to tell someone what to do with their body? same as the state. im proud to have one. and for all of the people that believe in the 18 yr old law i was only 17 and my parents did have to sign for it. think less of me now. :-P at the end of the day it will still be there and when i get on the mat you will see it. disagree or agree people will do what they want regardless of what people talk about on forums.

yea im getting one on my upper back too and yes im getting my parents to sign for it and just because they are signing for it doesnt mean they are bad parents. it means they trust me enough to let me think for myself and if they were bad parents then i wouldnt really be on kentucky wrestling right now, i would be in jail somewhere or on the streets doing stuff i shouldnt, which im not because of the fact that my parents taught me better then that. so you can judge me how you will.... :-D
This topic challenges me to try and explain why,at 45yrs old, I have difficulty relating to the things teenagers are attracted too today. We were known for what we were good at,he is a football player,or he is a honor student, and all the other things one could be good at.I think it is alot easier to get attention for what you look like than it is to be known for who you have become
I pray every day the children I see once a week at the UK Children's Hospital could (but not necessarily would) spend the time worrying/talking about things like tattoos.
Sorry I posted by accident.Being known by your accomplishments, achieved through hard work was our way stating who we were. The people who chose to be known for what they looked like were mostly people who were too lazy to do the work.So that being said I have no appreciation for tatts. My wife says with all these diverse looks people try to achieve in their quest to be thenselves they have all become alike.
some people are ridiculous on here. signs of weakness? bad home life? i believe this would be stereo-typing every person with a tat. every person gets one for different reasons, even if it is just because they wanted to get one. i've seen many tattoos that i would never get, and i dont agree with such as curse words, girlfriends names, derogatory statements, and really generic ones but who am i to tell someone what to do with their body? same as the state. im proud to have one. and for all of the people that believe in the 18 yr old law i was only 17 and my parents did have to sign for it. think less of me now. :-P at the end of the day it will still be there and when i get on the mat you will see it. disagree or agree people will do what they want regardless of what people talk about on forums.
I was not one who said it was a sign of weakness, nor bad home life.
We were all young and pretentious at one time in our lives. I in my youth did many things that I regret at my advanced age. Fortunately very few of those actions have left permenant marks on my external body for others to see. (A few scars here and there). A few of my actions have left internal scars however.
As an ancient adult I just try to pass on some of my life experiences to help the younger generation. So that they will not make the same mistakes I/we did. I have seen many of my friends not get high positions in companies because of the tattoo across their forehead, or the "OZZY" across their knuckles.
Some of these friends went through the Laser surgeries to have them removed. This was a cost they had to pay as an adult for actions they made as a child. I am not implying that parents today are bad parents, what I have observed is that parents today give into their children much more than they did when I was a child. This is a different topic that has to do with the court system and the interpretation of laws.
What our point is to the youth on here is that all actions you make now will be with you for the rest of your life. We were all young and indestructible at one time. We believed that nothing we did would affect us when we got older. Unfortunately we found out later that this belief was wrong. A tattoo is one of these actions that can greatly affect your adult life.
I am really not that far advanced in my old age that I cannot remember my youth and the feeling of power and being untouchable, with the whole world as my playground.
Well-said, Grappler. As they say, "Youth is wasted on the young!"
