MOW!!!!!

Topic ID: 3566 | 6 Posts

I am new to this board and have been following Kentucky high school wrestling for a year...but now I am a big fan!!!!! I want to congratulate Harrison Courtney for being named Most outstanding wrestler of the state tournament. This was my first year going to state and I can say I am impressed with all the talent Kentucky has!!!!!!!!!!!!! I seen a few of Harrisons matches and was also impressed.....this kid seems like he has natural talent..the stuff some seem to be givin to at birth...but the one thing that impressed me the most about this kid was how he is off the mat......I got to speak to him for just a minute to wish him good luck in his finals.......and it suprised me....I was expecting a kid that would be full of himself but what I seen was a down to earth...friendly...respectful...focused kid. So on and off the mat I think Courtney is one heck of a wrestler ..I am sure his coaches.....Woodford Co.....and his family and friends are very proud of him. He deserved in my book  that award last night....I  did notice on here some of you are not Courtney fans..maybe becuse he is from Woodford.....but I am here to tell you after this weekend.....I am a Courtney believer and fan!!!!! and I am not from the Woodford district... we should be proud when kids like this REPRESENT OUR STATE......"Kentucky".

I want to congratulate all the kids who made it to state.......it gives me another reason to be proud to be from Kentucky......job well done guys.........and of course.......congratulations to Harrison Courtney for his 3 peat and being named MOW.

Well said 1#fan. I think people watch Harrison and think he may be a bit over hyped because he doesn't appear to be working very hard, but his hard work in practice and natural skill allows him to beat people rather easily. What's fun about posting about a kid that wins and is really a nice guy?

Let's be honest, message boards tend to be used to vent frustrations or point out the negatives and as you said, Harrison is one of the nicest kids you'll meet. So I don't think you'll see to many people on here discussing him becuase he is such a quality person. You'll notice there are numerous comments about another Woodford Co wrestler but they aren't very positive.

I would much rather see comments and discussions about kids that show how to work hard, compete hard, win and lose with honor, and be respectfull than to read about how some kid threw his headgear or tried to sucker punch an oppenent. For those kids, I would like to see their PARENTS jerk their chains and send them packing.

Congrats Harrison on MOW!

You're right, Dutch. From what I've heard, Courtney is a nice young man. It isn't all that much fun to talk about how great somebody is. Once you say it, what else can you add? You can debate bad calls and poor behavior until the cows come home, though! I do want to say I was impressed with the Letcher County coach, who took a wrestler out and forfeited his next match because he acted unsportsmanlike when he lost. The parents and the coaches should insist wrestlers toe the line and NEVER encourage them to play dirty or get away with questionable actions.

Yea I did see some unsportsman like actions this week also....but like you said I want to focus on the kids that showed what the sport really is about...and I seen alot of that this weekend....not only Harrison but alot of other kids.

One thing I forgot to say.....Harrison seems to have alot of engery  like you said lol....I notice when it is time for a match he seems ready to get out there......he reminds me off a caged tiger the way he paces back and forth....but he gets the job done.....and it seems the kid really loves the sport.

I have noticed that everyone boos every Woody wrestler except for Courtney.  I thought they booed the Woody wrestlers due to their behavior and didn't boo him because it wasn't due to them just being winners but then people started booing Union.  So I guess everyone hates winners except when people see true greatness and then they shut their mouth :? :?
