I grew up and wrestled all through middle school and high school in the state of Ohio. I had been exposed to KY wrestling a few times during my high school years because my dad lived in kentucky. I worked out with teams in the area during my school breaks around christmas and summer to stay in shape. When i first came down to say i wasnt impressed at all would be being nice. And i do not mean that about any team individual or the sport in this state at a personal level at all. Since I have moved down here five years ago now..and have coached here for 2 years...I have been very impressed with the growth and the level of competition in the state of kentucky. I feel the athletes and coaches all have come a very long way in a short period of time. With more schools joining every year I see no reason why this growth cannot continue. Great job to all the coaches and more importantly the atheletes for putting in the work needed to help this great sport grow.

I can see a difference, and I've only been involved with Kentucky wrestling for six years. Schools like Meade and Nelson Counties have gotten off the ground, and the competition itself is tougher and tougher. What a great sport. I've seen young men who probably would have been on drugs and part of gangs concentrate on being physically fit and competing. It's satisfying to watch. Thanks for the post, Ref.
